The price of Bitcoin is hitting new highs regularly now...  and yet it is expected to continue rising.  At what price would you stop buying?

We still don't know what might happen in bitcoin's proce, it may pump or dump but we don't know if it will continue. And I don't buy bitcoin, I just earn them in some services that I do, I am planning to save them so I can use them as a capital in the future, maybe trade or invest.

I dont really have a price I would stop buying bitcoin because the price of bitcoin is relative. I would only look at bitcoin if I saw there being no fundamental future for bitcoins to exist. As long as bitcoin has future potential, I would buy bitcoins at any price.

It depends. We must watch the market movement. Now for an example, I wouldn't buy Bitcoins for the currently price as I want to make profit on medium term. The price is increasing a lot and soon it will be saturated with some risk to have the price decreased. If I see the market is too stable (doesn't matter the price), and suddenly the price start increasing, so I can buy Bitcoins to sell soon.

The price can be $1000 or $10.000, what matters is the market movement.

Good thing that you are not considering the value of bitcoin, at some point at its current price now although it is high but eventually would rise more than that in the future. But for me, if the price per btc would be $50k again, I am gonna trade again. But if the price will continue to rise I am gonna trade but just a few btc.

If I were a trader, I would never have thought of stopping buying bitcoin, because it was a potential coin, its value could have fallen, however, it would surely continue to increase in The future, therefore, is not worth the maximum so we stop buying bitcoin, as long as the market still needs bitcoin, it will definitely increase the price.

I have already stopped buying bitcoins.
Right now, I have my little stash which I am holding. The incremental gains that can be made with additional investment is low.

Stop buying Bitcoin at this time is a good option, as bitcoin is carrying too high value, the risk of collapse is also higher, if you continue to invest in it, you must accept confrontation with risk. Dangerous machine. So, to be safe, do not invest more money in it.

Who are you talking to, day traders/ long term holders/ investors/ merchants/ newbies? everyone has a limit, everyone will buy and use bitcoin as they need to, if you want to see the resistance limits then what ever the price might be there will always be a large group of real supporters backing bitcoin up regardless of market price.

Pro traders and skilled investors will always make profit on any given price, I'm more interested to know how much people are willing to pay as normal fees than what you are asking.

There is always a maximum price for a coin at a specified time, in order to get a profit, business people always count on every problem, so they will not defy the value to buy it. You are giving a false opinion, you do not really understand the market.

Pro traders will definitely make use of the bitcoin even if the price ia found low. Most of the time the beginner to trading quote high profit margin and end it up. For a sustained long term profiting small profit margin nred to be quoted that helps in continued trading leading to minimum profit but the increased trading volume gives better earning.

With my budget, I think I'll only buy some when it is under $1000, hopefully there comes a time when it goes down and I can buy, I won't buy above it as I feel it is risky as no one has any idea what its gonna do tomorrow and how the price is gonna react.

just few people dare to buy bitcoin when the price is high because it is too risky and it would be better to produce bitcoin with faucet, gambling, trading and signature campaign than to buy it. I would buy bitcoin if the price had gone down maybe about $1000 or less.

Actually i didnt buy the bitcoin that i accumulate in my wallet it came from my earnings in trading and sig campaign. because i dont spend my coins i save enough and still counting for more. with the current price i dont think its wise to buy btc now, since the btc price is volatile i would wait for it to drop. however if you can afford to buy btc regardless of the price then do it because we cant predict what will gonna happen for the coming days.

as long as i can not find a job that is paying me in bitcoin, the only option i am left with is to buy bitcoin if i want to use it. and for using bitcoin the price doesn't matter.

But depending on bitcoin's price and it's popularity, I don't think that it can dump or fall from the price of $1000. I think it will just dump from $1400 or $1500 but I dont think it will reach again $1000. Well, nobody knows what might happen in the future.

Well its not about at what price you should stop, its about how you can get the most benefit out of this market.

As we have observes from the precious trend that always a point comes when a bubble arise and suddenly price goes down. Now if you are trader you should sell those your bitcoin before that comes and when price goes down buy it again.

But if you want to invest for a long term, then according to market pundit this is just starting as may be 1-2 % population are using crypto currency. Now think about when it becomes 10% and then 50% and more. You will top of the world. :)

But still this market is unpredictable, don't put your all money. Always keep ready for the worst.

Why to stop buying bitcoin  ???
Bitcoin price will keep on rising because demand is growing while supply is limited and new coins that are generated everyday is decreasing. For me best time to buy more bitcoin is during some correction on price, just wait for correction after large pump on price and buy whatever you can.

When the BTC price was $1000 people said once the price dump to $700 or $800 we will buy. Now it doubled, so people are telling once it goes down $1000 we will buy. The real fact is if suppose our bad luck the price fall to $1k then no one will buy I will bet. Becasue if that happen no one will believe that again, the price will go up to $1700. The same thing will repeat every price up and down.

bitcoin is divisible you know this right? buying 0.1 at $1000 is not different than buying 1 btc at $100 or 0.01 at $10k, so again i ask you why i should stop buying bitcoin?

it make no sense to buy based on the price, you should stop to buy if you think you are taing a bigger risk than the one you can handle, which is true in every investment

Bitcoin needs buyers in order to maintain the price increase and further growth.
I`m not a bitcoin buyer, because i`m afraid of scammers, but maybe i should start buying soon.
I`m missing a lot of profit.

well the price of bitcoin is now definitely expensive to buy atleast 1 whole coin even buying half of it is pain in my wallet and also, it is also risky to buy a bitcoin because the price may drop anytime due to scaling wars (if BU Hard fork Bitcoin happened) and the risk of collapse is also higher so, for now maybe earning bitcoins will be good for now and, i will wait for the price drop and buy atleast 3 bitcoins and hold it until the price come back to it's feet.

You are just talking about in the vie of people are using bitcoin for store of value. But there are larger volume of people who are just using bitcoin as one medium of payments and they do not need to bother about price levels, they will buy and use, they do not need to wait for lower prices as prices levels are not impacting their purposes with bitcoins.

Again, there are people who are keeping buying bitcoins regularly like weekly/monthly. When these people will be believing into one million dollars worth for one bitcoin, I believe they will not stop at any price levels right now what bitcoin is being traded.

Waiting for prices to come down is not a good way of investment because sometimes you may need to wait for long or forever because prices may not fall back to what your expecting. So it is good to start accumulating prices in small quantities now and then so that you buy price will average out. But as of now, prices are going only one direction and didn't correct for a long time so don't know what is happening.

I stopped buying a long time ago at 238€. Granted I did buy a few times as the price was falling, at 345€ then 290€, then 238€, but I felt like the price was low and that downside was low.
Now we are at all time highs, I am not saying that the price won't continue to rise from here, but there is a lot of downside.  I mean $1000 is a good price historically, but someone buying today would be sat on a 40% loss at $1000.

I would be tempted to sell at some point, then rebuy should the price fall to increase my number of Bitcoins. The problem there is obviously that I don't know if and when the price will fall, and if it does, who knows where it will settle or how low it will go!

I am a happy holder at the moment.

And don't expect bitcoin price to go down the sub $1000 now. And if you kept waiting for the bitcoin price to go down, then you will miss a lot of opportunity because it may not come down. As what the poster above me said, buy in small amounts or like put 5-10% of your monthly salary to bitcoin and try to accumulate as much as you can.

Well, frankly speaking 3 months ago I thought $1,500 is the high limit for Bitcoin price this year.  Apparently I was wrong about it. They say the price is rising due to wider adoption of BTC in Japan and I also heard that something similar is happening in Australia. If most people who are buying Bitcoin now are not traders, but long term investors, which is most likely, then the price will continue rising in the future.

I would only stop buying Bitcoin if something catastrophic happened to the security of the blockchain. Aside from some crazy things in the media, probably no price would influence me. By the time this question would be relevant would we even be basing it in dollars?

Probably case to case basis. Like you mate, you prefer to earn bitcoin through signature campaign and you don't want buying it. But most of us here, aside from signature campaign earnings, want to buy and invest through it. For me the price of bitcoin is irrelevant, As long as you have the money to buy and saved it, then it will not be a problem. Of course the old statement, "buy low, sell high" still holds true. But if you are waiting for the price to go low, then you will not buy it because the trend now is going up. So if you are really interested on bitcoin as store of value or investment, you will buy it at any market price to hold for future profits.

I don't think I will stop buying at any certain stage because I see it as a payment system and if I need to send bitcoins to someone then I would buy it rather than sending from my savings. Yes, I believe that bitcoin will eventually show extraordinary performance down the road but that doesn't mean that I would not buy it. On the other hand, I might increase the volume of the purchase if the price falls.

I think it depend on what you are doing. if you are a trader the price technically doesn't matter. but if you are a HODl then it does as the price can go against you within a short time. But i will rather wait to buy in a dip or retracement somewhere between 900 to 1200 that is if it retrace to that.

As I see it, the value of Bitcoin is poised to really go upwards and who knows what level it would stop? The main issue here is what we can afford or the amount of money we can use to buy Bitcoin. Start from there and do not worry so much if it is still rising because that is actually good news. Buy Bitcoin now and be happy later.

At this point, it does not matter the price at which everyone intended to stop buying because at an increase in that price someone is willing to still buy more. Bitcoin today has expanded beyond the reach of individuals and this is gradually going beyond the reach of countries. Its a free market that even if we on this forum agrees not to buy, there are millions of people outside the forum that are willing to mop up those ones we are refusing and the price still remain the same.

just think about when you buy half of bitcoin worth $850 now , in the future when bitcoin price keep increasing and reach up to $17,000 how much value you would get later? it's $8,500 ! you shouldn't think about the current price are so expensive , but think about the potential price growth ! then you might wouldn't feel worry to buy bitcoin anytime!

It's your mistake, you need to be more assertive and believe in bitcoin. Your shyness and most people make them regret. Currently, bitcoin is carrying a high value, however, it is unstable, so investing in bitcoin now is an unwise thing. Don't risk.

I bought a small reserve of bitcoin when it was in the few hundred $ range, mainly to have a reserve to buy services on the internet (VPN / VPS stuff).  The funny thing is that I now have way, way too much for this usage.  So I don't need to buy bitcoin any more, I have more than enough for what I want to buy with it in the near future.  And I put a few coins aside, which I will cash out when bitcoin rises to the promised $500 000.- a coin and buy a few houses for each of my kids with it.  If they drop to zero, which I also expect, well, I will still have bought all the stuff on the internet I ever planned to buy with bitcoin, so I don't care.  What I will never do, is cash out before 500 000.-.
(well, I agree that I may be tempted around $450 000.-).  Below that, I couldn't care less.

And I won't buy any more.  I have more than enough "bitcoin money" for all I will most probably ever buy with it.

I will stop buying bitcoin when the price reaches $5000 per bitcoin because i can't even afford 1 bitcoin with that price and if i'm going to buy then it will be a very small quantity of bitcoin so for me, it is not worth it to buy bitcoin with that price and i will stop buying and keep holding my current bitcoins.

really ? Do you think bitcoin can reach that value? And if you are a rich person, would you buy bitcoin if it is $ 4000? It's crazy, you should think about the consequences if the bitcoin collapses, once you buy it at a premium, you always face risks, so be careful.

Not only that it will reach $5000 per bitcoin but it will surpass it by miles. The exactly same thing was said about reaching $1, $10, $100, $1000... and the exact thing will be said about reaching $10.000, $100.000, etc...

History always repeats itself.

I will buy until either I don't have any money left or I have too much in Bitcoin that diversify is a must(probably around $1M worth of Bitcoin, still a long way to go).

Bitcoin has potential to easily grow some orders of magnitude in the incoming decade, so any price is cheap now

Bitcoin is already very expensive for me, in beginning when I joined 1 btc was same as my monthly paycheck, now bitcoin is x8 my monthly paycheck. I'm more concentrated on some cheap alts, in that I invest bitcoins that I earn. Probably most of us here are feeling the same way about this, bitcoin is becoming very expensive to buy.

Even if the price crosses $4000 people will buy if they think that price would rally after that and with the limited amount of coins in circulation it is quite obvious that the price would keep on increasing and we need some sort of scaling to accommodate the users even temporarily because the transaction fees and delays are a bit frustration at times if you are really planning to do arbitrary trading,it is nearly impossible to do that with bitcoin. Whether the price of bitcoin collapses is another story, you really cannot guarantee any profit with any sort of investment, you have to take that risk if you are an investor.

Is it really gonna go further the $2000 mark value? well we don't have any clues, because the value have hit the $1800 then all of a sudden it goes back down the $1700 mark, and if I am buying bitcoin I already stop in the $1300 mark value because bitcoin is too expensive on my part right now!

I've already stopped purchasing Bitcoin so I don't really have a price point where I wouldn't purchase Bitcoin at. I could purchase Bitcoin at many Bitcoin Exchanges it's just that I have purchased Bitcoin so much that I am pretty much bored of it.

I make Bitcoins with Altcoins and other things so getting Bitcoin is not an issue at all. If the price of Bitcoin went to $10,000 per coin then I would definitely not purchase Bitcoin.

Yes bitcoin is increasing constantly everyday, sometimes it goes down but a little bit not much that can really affect. Bitcoin is really known around the world and some countries actually use bitcoin as a payment on stores, food and etcc. and bitcoin is really going to continue rising over time in the future. One research online says that by 2020 the value of the bitcoin would be double or multiply more than on what you expect. In some people they will not stop buying bitcoin that is because it is really useful to them some do gamble and some do invest it just depends on the person on how he/she handles it. For me at what price I would stop buying is when I can't afford to buy it anymore. Today it is good to buy becaues it is still in not so low but average price I surely know that It would be bigger in the future. It is better to spend now and earn a lot later.  ;)

I probably wouldn't stop buying Bitcoin as long as the investment potential was still there, since it doesn't really matter whether you buy 1 satoshi (aside from fees) or 100 BTC, since the price affects it in the same way, just smaller portions. A 10% rise on 1mBTC still affects it, in the same way, a 10% rise in value affects 1BTC, just in a different magnitude.

I'm not sure that I would ever stop, even at a very high price.  As long as I have some kind of income arriving, a small part would probably go to buying Bitcoin.

Also, there is the possibility that .gov would want to tax BTC price gains (capital gains tax), if at least part of your BTC holdings were bought at a high price, then you are partly shielded from paying a higher CapGains tax, just a thought...

OP, I've stopped buying as of a couple of days ago, but not because I think we're too high--though we're damn high, and we rose way too fast--but because I've blown through my allotment of disposable cash for the week.  In other words, if I had more dough I'd be buying still.  Not huge amounts, but I'd still be buying.  And I haven't sold any.  I think this bull run still has some life left in it.  Perhaps next week I can get some more at a better price.

I guess with the move of Japan's adoption it's clear that other countries will possibly do the same thing. But don't expect that bitcoin will be adopting by each countries. I know the demand of bitcoin is getting higher and higher, in the end I don't have any way to buy them because the price is flying to the moon.

It's a great revolution toward progress that Crypto-Blockchain stuff bring to humanity !Evolution! :)

Be careful with "backed by math".  It is backed by the math that a miner consortium decides to put into the software they are running to make the block chain.  You may think that the 21 million coins are "fixed by math", but that's not true.  They are only fixed by the lines of software that are running now on the nodes of the miner pools.  The only thing that withholds them from changing that, is the *psychological* barrier ; the fact that this was so hammered into the minds of the users that if ever they dare to change that, the whole belief system crumbles.  But it is not "backed by math", at all.

Where does this 21 million come from ?  It comes from the fact that there's a piece of software that has a counter, and every 210 000 blocks, it halves the block reward.

Here's that piece of code:
https://media.coindesk.com/uploads/2016/06/nSubsidy.png

It means that during 210 000 blocks, there were 50 coins ; then there were 25 coins in the next 210 000 blocks, etc....

As 50 + 25 + 12.5 + 6.25 + .... = 100

we have that in total, *if this piece of software continues to run unchanged for the next 100 years or so*, there will be 210 000 * 100 = 21 000 000 coins in total.

If tomorrow, all the miner pools together (there are about 20 of them) decide to change those few lines of code, you can print just as many bitcoin as you want.  No math, apart from the trivial math that calculates the sum when you have the lines of code, in the same way that "the math determines the emission of fiat currency", when a central bank prints, say, a million dollars a day, you can say that "the math" fixes the amount of dollars printed per year to 365 million.

Well that's an interesting perspective, but could you please elaborate more?

As far as I understand, the total number of Bitcoins  is the sum of a Geometric series (S):

 S = 210000 x 50 x ( 1 / (1 - 0.5) ) = 21 million.

If we already have a given geometric series, how can we change change its sum?

Yes that is one of my price target for the high price of bitcoin and i think if the price reaches at least 3000 USD a lot of people will sell mostly those people who bought their bitcoins from 1000 USD or below. If i were you, i will sell some of my bitcoins if the price reaches 3000 USD to get ROI and i will keep the rest for another price target.

well if I were able to buy bitcoin I would stop buying once the value has reached the amount that is very much closer to $2,000, actually at this moment buying bitcoin seems to be very risky already because although the price is continuously getting much higher sometimes it is also getting decreased maybe due to those people who are panic selling their bitcoin and it made me think that after hitting expected price most people will quickly dump their coin .

The price of 1 bitcoin is arbitrary. It makes you feel like it's one unit when in fact it's 100 million units of value. There isn't a price I would stop buying at but I definitely would try to buy at dips so you know you're buying at a more true value for that time period.

Logically we can assume that bitcoin price, because of the natural properties of BTC combined with growing awareness and adoption will continue to grow.
It is safe to say that even if you buy BTC at today's hypothetical ATH soon we will have even higher ATH.

Conclusion: as long as you have fiat money to spare buying bitcoin is a great option.

This is my plan to build my own mining rig but I won't mine bitcoin but I'm going to mine alt coins because it's more profitable than mining bitcoin which is the difficulty is harder nowadays. I'm planning if I'm going to stop at $3k or if there will be more good news to come whatever the price will be I'm going to buy at any moment.

Now something that as value is backed by mathematics.. no ressources or power involved.  Just math !

Good point, but you know, as well, that miners would never do so – reason: Bitcoin becomes nothing. If there wasn't a 21 Million limitation, price wouldn't go as high as it's now (or higher in the future). So 'Math' still has a role in this, as manipulating it leads to catastrophic disasters.

On topic, I have stopped buying bitcoin since the price went to $1500 – it is very high for me to buy even 0.1BTC with USD$. Instead, I am working on making Bitcoins in other ways (not just my signature).

Whenever I need to pay for something using Bitcoin then I will pay the amount in fiat and buy then send Bitcoin only with a few percent difference which is deducted as fees but it wont effect my buying power much.

If you are a trader and constantly doing small and big trades, again it wont effect your tradings that much.

But if you are a miner and selling your coins as you mine them it will definitely change things for you.

At the moment I'm not buying any altcoins because they are in a fake pump stage, so no need to buy Bitcoin for me but no matter the price as long as I can sell back with a few percent difference I will pay the price, market price.

Well that's an interesting perspective, but could you please elaborate more?

As far as I understand, the total number of Bitcoins  is the sum of a Geometric series (S):

 S = 210000 x 50 x ( 1 / (1 - 0.5) ) = 21 million.

If we already have a given geometric series, how can we change change its sum?

The total number of bitcoins is the sum of a Geometric series, because that is what is programmed in the piece of code I quoted.  If you change that code (that is, if the miners change that code), then this sum becomes whatever you program there.  There is no "mathematical constraint" in bitcoin that would make bitcoin cryptographically fail or something if this changed - that's what I mean by "backed by mathematics".   Suppose for instance, that there was a bitcoin to be created for every block number being a prime number, and that this prime number played an essential cryptographic role without which, the system would simply not function.  Then you could say that the emission rate of bitcoin was somehow "backed by mathematics".

But the "backed by mathematics" is in our case, simply the sum of the numbers that have been programmed by a few lines of code: if you change those lines of code, then the "mathematics" will simply sum to something else.  Like I said, change this line :

nSubsidy >>= halvings;

into

nSubsidy <<= halvings;

and you have now a doubling instead of a halving every 4 years, and the sum of all coins is "backed by mathematics" to become infinite.

If all miners do that and agree on that, then right now, they start earning, not 12.5 coins, but rather 200 coins per block, and in a good 3 years, 400 coins per block.

BTW, that would have been a wiser emission curve (at least for a while), to emit more coins when adoption grows, rather than give all the stash to a few early adopters, but silly belief in sound money theory fucked up bitcoin - but now bitcoin is stuck in that belief system.

As you say yourself, it is not math, but psychology.  If miners would touch it, the *belief* in "bitcoin to the moon" would be hurt, and "bitcoin to the moon" belief is what sustains its speculative market.    It is also what makes bitcoin a bad currency (no stable value).

There is no "mathematical guarantee" on bitcoin's emission curve.  That's my whole point.  The bitcoin emission curve is a matter of convention between miners, in the same way that block size is.  But the psychology and the game theory are such, that nobody dares to change it.

I'll stop buying Bitcoin as soon as 1 Satoshi hit the price of $1, till then I have a plan of buying Bitcoin whenever price gets lower than the regular. But after that it's just holding and selling at the right point. We would trade satoshi's then I guess.

I won't stop buying and selling because I am doing trading with bitcoin, so as long as there is a potential to earn profit then I won't stop buy and sell, but for investment I have stop buying when the price reaching 1000$, now I never buy any bitcoin anymore, I am earning bitcoin now for my investment

I agree with you, there is no particular price for the traders to stop buying bitcoin because as long as the market is active and you can still do traders often then you can buy whatever the price and do trades and make some money with it because a trader is not focusing on the price but on the movement of the market and how can he generate money with his assets.

Many thanks for the profound explanation. I'm not that good at math and maybe that's why I still think it's impossible without totally ruining Bitcoin to make those changes. Since there's no way miners want to ruin Bitcoin they would never agree on making those changes to the code. But theoretically you are right I think. At least I can't prove otherwise.

Why would changing the code ruin bitcoin? Does anyone holding bitcoins care about the limit on the number of bitcoins or the fees the miners are making? All they care about is a price increase. Why should removing the limit on number cause the price to drop? Ethereum is an excellent example that shows that nobody cares about the mathematics of the coin, all they care about is if they think they can sell it to someone else at a higher price in the future.

In fact, you could make a good argument that removing the limit on the number of bitcoins would cause the price to go up as it makes the system more viable.

I think if people can mine much more Bitcoins with the same effort the price of it will inevitably drop. And when the price starts dropping most holders have no time to analyze whether it's just a temporary thing or not, they just start to sell their coins and then the price drops even more.

I wholeheartedly agree with you.  In fact, the limited emission of bitcoins to a finite number, creates many fundamental problems, macro-economical, but also technical/economical.

My macro-economical complaint with bitcoin is that it is designed to be highly speculative, will never stabilize and will hence never be a unit of account, which will always make it a marginal means of payment at best, and a gambler's/speculator's/investor's toy dominantly.

But its reducing emission causes a lot of problems on lower levels too.  The whole fee market battle by miners comes about because their block rewards will dry up in the future.  Who says fee rewards, says scarce transactions, and hence artificially obstructed transaction system.  The reduced block rewards have also pushed the competition in mining to the extreme.

An emission curve that emits less assets when more users come in, gives HUGE seigniorage advantage to early adopters, and pushes speculation to unseen heights.  Even if the idea was to come to a limited amount of coins, the largest emissions shouldn't have happened when nobody was around.  This turns bitcoin into rare paintings of which a few early collectors have HUGE amounts, leading to a very unequal distribution of coins (not by the normal functioning of a market but by early bird adopters), which give rise to big whales, which can then play the market like they wish with their significant stash (read: pump 'n dump, corner, crash, ....).

The reducing block reward will also make the security by PoW *relatively speaking* less and less secure.  After all, the PoW securization is financed by the rewards, which reduce.  An attack has thus a cost, in relationship to the total amount of reward per block, which is decreasing in BTC.  It can be increasing in $$ of course, but in BTC, it is decreasing.  The *incentive* for an attack, however, will remain formulated in BTC: it is the ability to undo a transaction a few confirmations ago.  As such, the ratio between attack cost and attack incentive, is decreasing with effective block reward decrease.

I know that the price of bitcoin will not stop rising till each and every coin is mined and till each and every person of the world adopt bitcoin so I will not stop buying bitcoin till that time and after that I will still buy for my needs as from that time there will be no any lose in bitcoin because of the worldwide marketcap.

So I really doubt that you'll be able to buy continuously until then...

I agree that currently btc price is to high for average users.
When bitcoin price was about $ 250-300, it was still affordable for the most btc users.
Now, I don't think that many people can afford to buy significant amount of btc with own funds.
So, they will have no choice but to try to collect bitcoin in other ways, like collecting faucets, signature campaigns, gambling, HYIP etc.
I personally didn't try to buy bitcoin since last year.

If the price of bitcoin is too high and the price is ready to dump I will stop buying bitcoin because many big whales will sell their bitcoin.  And I will start buying again if the price dumps, that's the right time to collect many bitcoin.

For a new investor it will be a hard choice. It is getting kind of difficult to pull more investor in an average type of people who earns a minimum wage.
Before they could be attracted because it could be reached by their salaries or the excess of it.
But now, is seems like they are doubting and they have more what ifs.
At this point those who buys then sell and do it all over are the one who can profit or the rich ones.

We can't stop others to buying bitcoins. but OP is asking where you will you stop buying bitcoins. I already stopped to buy bitcoins. today's price is $1750 if I buy BTC for this price and wait for profit means. Max to max how much profit I will make in 1 or 2 month. Yes thats true. The bitcoin price is quietly more higher than before. But a little bit smaller than the past few hours if you want to buy, but it when it is lower, but to be practical you must hold your money now because bitcoin value is high now. You may invest it at other alt coins if you want.

I don't know, depends on many circumstances and my estimation on the situation and chances for future profit. For my taste even now the price is to high for buying so I'm trying to earn some coins without buying. But still it's good to take chance on every opportunity when the price falls down a bit.

Even the current price is so high to buy bitcoins so I have already stopped buying bitcoins and waiting for the price to go down in coming days and if that happens then it will allow me to buy more amount of bitcoins at lower price.

It is true that the rising up value of bitcoin at the present time now cannot be stop,  and I am glad its getting higher,  and I will only stop if bitcoin reach 100k dollars :D

Keep dreaming, boy because I do not think that it will be back at $1200. bitcoin is a way too high and nothing can stop it right now. Just wait and see. I am always right about the price of Bitcoin. Do not fool yourself because you know that the price will not drop anymore

I'm not expecting for the price to come down now. Because there's a believe for me that the price will soon higher. But I already stopped on buying too because I cannot afford to buy anymore as the price is still considered high, I don't want to buy anymore. And if ever the price will be low again then probably I'm going to buy.

Price can probably go higher in coming days depending on the demand of bitcoins and that is correct that the price of bitcoins is too high now and we cannot afford to keep on buying at current rate as you can afford to buy them only if you have excess money and if not better to hold the existing coins.

Yes it is very possible that the price can go up higher for the upcoming days. And it's truly the price of bitcoin is high and I don't think it is going to be affordable for me. And there's nothing wrong if you are going to admit that you cannot afford to buy some bitcoins right now but I know also the price will not decrease.

I would not want to purchase Bitcoin at a high price because the amount of risk that it contains will only get larger if the price is up that high. Since the people that purchased or mined Bitcoin when it was within the single digit price range, those people are likely to dump and cause a price crash when Bitcoin gets really expensive for the average person.
I would not want to purchase Bitcoin when/if it gets around $70,000 per coin.

The price is based on market psychology, not any fundamental fixed value.

Therefore as long as the majority of people believe the price will rise, it will rise. And from what I see the market in general is very optimistic so the price will continue to rise for now.

However as bitcoin becomes more widespread in use, it will be harder to judge overall market psychology as people who are not loyal to coin begin to use it. When this happens I believe the price will become very vulnerable to selloffs.

This usually happens. Even if it is not a huge dump, there is usually a 5% to 10% price decrease after a pump, then the price slowly goes up again.

Be wary and don't get caught holding the bags!!!

And for now I feel free to invest on it, even I know the price is more likely to go up, there is always time to dump moments

Majority the trader still buy bitcoins when huge pump coming, one reason if huge coming sometimes will not stop in a day, it's mean you can take a big profit in that's day and mostly dump will come in other days or next days.

Bitcoins are fairly similar to stocks in a way so I am not quite sure if there is a maximum price at which people would stop buying them. As the price of bitcoins continues to skyrocket (I believe its value reaches 1900 USD today), investors will be more likely to buy in as they would like to see the value of their assets increase. What would stop people from buying bitcoins however is if people were to start selling their bitcoins at a faster rate than it is being purchased, leading to a downward spiral in which more and more people continue to sell while the value continues to drop. That is essentially what took place during the Great Depression quite a few years ago. Let's hope that doesn't happen anytime soon! Though despite the cyclical nature of a stock crash, bitcoin has proved itself unwavering and has survived many 'deaths' over the years. Perhaps the root cause would be the stalwart believers in the decentralized currency, supposing that a lower price would simply be a positive opportunity. Basically if they price would start to plummet, bitcoin holders would start to sell off all their bitcoins. Then, when the price has reached its low, they buy back their bitcoins for a much lower price.

I would only stop buying it if it reach its peak, I mean the most higher price that we could never imagine, because if we are still going to buy when that time comes, we couldn't have any profits at all in the long run, we might just lose the capital that we have used on buying it. So we have to be wise on buying bitcoin, and avoid making naive decisions that you might regret on the end.

If you are confident of the long term trend and the potential for higher prices in the future, cost averaging might be a good strategy. Buying regularly at certain prices will still give a good amount of gains if done correctly. This new all time high will merely be another price that's cheap to buy at if you look at it years from now.

That is why we need to fill ourselves with new so that we will have a more broader idea about Bitcoin whether it is rising to a higher heights or is it falling down like an avalanche. For example, we know this year the price of Bitcoin to reach $2000 is certain especially countries started accepting Bitcoin thus the users and demand increases. Also you tend to sell your Bitcoin when it reach $2000 because as they say Bitcoin price would undergo correction thus it will adjust the price as to what it should be that means the price would go down then you will buy Bitcoin in its cheapest price.

It will never be stop buying bitcoin..
Everyone is buying and selling bitcoin, and that's the reason price is moving up.
The current price shows the current demand of bitcoin.

I am talking about traders..
Every trader will keep buying and then sale bitcoin for profit.
So the buying will never stop as long as the bitcoin exists.

Except some of the people, who bought bitcoin as their long term investment.
Bought at very low rate, and maybe now they are selling. But those people will never buy at the current price..
They are just praying for the price to dump below $1k maybe, so that they can grab some more and make big profit.

That's the traders whose efforts are moving bitcoin price up & up.

It is also good to mention that bitcoin price may drop anytime or maybe it will hit $3k by this years.. WHO KNOWS!
If it hits $3k, peoples will be able to make good $1.1k profit per bitcoin.... if they buy at current price.  ;)

This is just my point of view.

Never, its a case of risk management. No one has access to a crystal ball however if you ready up on your investment strategies and manage a portfolio you can hedge your bets in order to decrease risk and generate the best possible outcome.

I personally hold shares in around 7 altcoins alongside more so traditional investments and I monitor news reports and buying trends to ensure that I make the best decision possible based on the independant information that I have access to.

No such thing as bad publicity! There is a lot of press about Bitcoin at the moment and this will have a positive outcome, as we have seen over the past few days the price is rising at a rate that some would call alarming, but to me it is not. Bitcoins logistics are setup to leverage a supply and demand economic and that is favourable for many.

I don’t really set a price on Bitcoin because it does not matter what price Bitcoin is at if I wanted to spend Bitcoin immediately. Trying to tie Bitcoin to USD is a bad idea and it kind of goes against what Bitcoin is and the people that are trying to make it seem like Bitcoin can’t be purchased at a high price because it will be really expensive to the average person really didn’t research what Bitcoin actually is. Unless there is a minimum limit that a person much purchase when the price of Bitcoin gets very expensive then there shouldn’t be an issue of people trying to purchase portions of it at a high price.

For a trader like us, the price of bitcoin is not that big deal because we don't keep bitcoin for at least a year because we trade them regularly and we take advantage of the volatility of the price and that is how we make a living with bitcoin. In my opinion, as long as the market is active, i will not stop buying and selling bitcoin.

I am seeing it from the point of view of a crypto trader, that buying and selling is just a regular habit, but for a normal user, I think the higher the price goes, the less likely he would want to buy, but instead resort to selling his collection or part of it. Obviously, it is hard to say what the peak price of Bitcoin can be, but there are prices that would not be attractive for buying except in a dare situations like paying back debts or loans.

Right about now usually on an uptrend like this one it is hard to find what the supporting price as obviously there is no common price for. Also we are looking for a minor correction in which it will bounce back. Buying it right now would be a risky trade as you don't know when it will fall back. A margin of safety is always needed in trades as it is your assurance that your capital won't be affected when it falls. Right now people who have bought at a lower price can enjoy profit taking and the others who are left behind have nothing to do but monitor the price.

I will continue to buy bitcoin whenever I have spare cash... However, I guess I will stop for awhile now to allow the market to stabilize and digest the ATH of $2063!!! Just can imagine that only a few months ago we were talking about breaking the ATH of $1163- an increase of $900 in ATH value in just few months!
Do you invest all your cash into bitcoin? It's a dangerous business, and there are many risks when we invest in something although it may give us a quick profit margin. A risky boy!

This is my game plan for buying bitcoin. As of now, I don't have enough to buy bitcoins and considering the price it's really high for me. But if ever there were some refreshments and there are spare money from my pocket. I'm going to save it and I will buy whether it is few bitcoins or it will not make it up to 1 btc.

If possible I don't buy bitcoin unless I exchange it with another altcoin. I don't have fiat available to buy so this is not really a question I can answer. I do want to keep earning it and hopefully grow Bitcoin as a saving fund for the long term. I don't think the price would affect me though if I was buying it regularly. I could continue buying and saving it, like I would gold or other investments.

I stop buying when the price is $1000 because Im afraid if I buy bitcoin more than $1000 and Ithe price decrease. But most of my money I invest bitcoin and Im happy as of now because my money become double because when i bought bitcoin$1000 and If i sell it $2000. But I will holduntil the end of 2017 becayse many people said after halving the price will become $3000-$4000 . But we cannot know what is the future of bitcoin they have possible to decrease and they have possible to increase more.

I would continue buying as long as I have some extra money for it, but only small fractions since I am also able to earn. That is what I try to hold and save for the future because I believe that the price increase is not going to stop at these levels we are presently at even though we have reached a very high amount already.

This is good, you do not need to invest aggressively, putting a small fraction will let you accumulate a good number of bitcoins in the future and if the trend will continue that will multiply to an amount more than you can imagine. Actually we all have our goal to sell but the moment we see the price skyrocket, it seems like we will feel we will lose the opportunity to make more if we let go of our holdings.

i agree, bitcoin is a good investment for all of us, saving and storing bitcoin is quiet good investment for me. if i have many moneys i will buy bitcoins with a large value and i will store it until it reaches my expecting price, i will only stop using bitcoin and buying it, when the time comes that my country will prohibit it and blocks all websites that im earning bitcoin on it.

Probably when the bitcoin price has exceeded the reasonable limits. Like $ 10k / btc. Because it will be too expensive and of course transaction fees will also be more expensive. If it happens I will not buy bitcoin

Investing money in bitcoin is a good choice but at present the price is too high and everyone will not afford to buy bitcoins at this price and to buy them we need to wait for the price drop as we are at all time high price now and may be in coming days we may see a bit dip in the price so I think that would be the great time to buy bitcoins as if we buy now and price goes down then it will bring loss for us.

The price volatility in bitcoin allows us to make regular profits so we can buy even today as many people feels that current price is too high to make an investment in bitcoins but they forget the fact that it can be even higher tomorrow which can give you profits in short term and I think that is the best way to play with bitcoins in order to make regular profits.

It does not really matter why the price of Bitcoin increases because I kind of just spend the coins right when I receive it. I don’t like to speculate so much on the price because the rate of it could change in an instant and the price of Bitcoin could get lower that what 97% of the people guess it would be.
Bitcoin is just a money transfer system that allows me to purchase things that I want/need on the Internet.

Good for you but don't you realize that you are wasting the opportunity of earning a lot of money in the future? If you see the price of bitcoin now compare to the price in the past, you will actually see a huge increase in the price and that is what you didn't grabbed, you just buy and spend while you can buy and hold that can help you in the long run.

Your point is 100% right, but its only if you want Bitcoin as an investment option. But don't forget that it is a transaction medium as well, which is hassle free and not restricted at the moment by any means. SO its upto the individual if he or she wants to just transact or grow his money.
And if anyone is thinking to hold, even now its a great time, I believe it will go further in the coming month. If someone is thinking to stop buying or acquiring Bitcoins by judging the price then Bitcoin is not a suitable option for them.

I will never stop buying Bitcoin because I am a trader and will never stop trading because trading is a way of earning for me and I can't stop it .
But if the buyers get down and sell will increase and sell in huge then ofcourse I will stop buying whether whatever is the rate of the Bitcoin is in the market of cryptocurrency .
But here I am also thinking that and sometimes doubt that whether  I am making money in Bitcoin really , because the earning of 1-3$ per deals results into loss of 50% because of the increase in the fee , so I am thinking to buy altcoins like ETH , dash , dgb , ripple etxc , because these have very low charge for the transaction from one wallet to another .
So with the Bitcoin deals in control I would like to have buy of altcoins instead of the Bitcoin to USD only .

But newgoodouble is right too, everyone can't avail to do a continuous buying because not all of us have enough budget on doing it.

I have already stopped buying bitcoins.
Right now, I have my little stash which I am holding. The incremental gains that can be made with additional investment is low.

I also stopped buying it right now because the fact that its price continuously increasing I think that my saved bitcoin in my wallet is enough. I'll hold for the mean time. I stopped it because i am afraid that when I bought it in a high price and then the next day bitcoin price dump ill lose more of my bitcoin. Holding a small amount is enough for me.

We still don't know what might happen in bitcoin's proce, it may pump or dump but we don't know if it will continue. And I don't buy bitcoin, I just earn them in some services that I do, I am planning to save them so I can use them as a capital in the future, maybe trade or invest.

Me too, I am not buying bitcoin, it is better if you earn it. It is really expensive to buy bitcoin now because bitcoin increases the price but this is actually good for me. So than while I am saving bitcoin, my bitcoin price will also increases.

I've also stopped purchasing Bitcoin a while ago since there really is no real purpose for the coin other than just selling it for fiat in when the price gets really expensive.

If the price of Bitcoin gets up to a hundred thousand dollars then I would not want to purchase any at all because the price of Bitcoin is more likely to drop down to a low digit value because the longterm holders are waiting for a number close to that amount.

Awesome. Long terms investment i think.

Many people plan to buy for a long-term investment. And it is right. In a few years or even months, the price of bitcoin will be much higher than now

With the development of bitcoin in the present, we do not need to make long term investments, the value of bitcoin is constantly changing in a good direction, so we easily make a profit from short-term investments.

It is really better to buy after a huge accident, because at a lower price it will be possible to purchase more coins and, accordingly, there will be more profits.

Yeah it is better but you can't predict if there will be a huge accident or not because the price of bitcoin is not predictable so it will be hard for you to decide if you will buy or wait but for me, it is better to just buy and hold bitcoin because the price is not that easy to dump because a lot of supports are in the market.

yes that is really difficult to predict about the price of bitcoin, but in fact still there are so many experienced people who can give good prediction about the price of bitcoin. as most of the people areholding bitcoin for a long time and are not ready to sell it, because they know that the price of bitcoin s going to increase more and more in near future and their prediction are also proving as correct.

I wouldn't stop at a specific price, I wouldn't just stop if I see BTC reaching a limit or a long period fall is approaching, of course you can't know for sure when is that can happen, but I guess it depends on your personal trust and guesses.

Right now Bitcoin has dropped 20% so it is a great time to buy now and take advantage of the price drop. We were all talking about how it will always go back up and how much we regret not buying stuff the right time so here is another chance we all have so buy buy buy go Bitcoin you rocket !!@

I can't stop buying bitcoin because this is my source of income as housewife I need bitcoin to earn for my children...unless bitcoin is gone...
If you must buy Bitcoin even at peak prices in order to earn and run your family, so how exactly do you earn - are you into trading or gambling? If you are into any of the two and doing quite well, then your earnings overtime would have taken care of the need to always buy more at whatever rate.

If what you are doing is to buy and hold until the price goes beyond your purchase price and your family is having to  depend on that, then you are not doing it right and you might want to work harder or gain more skills  to raise more fund, so you can have more leverage to buy much at a reduced rate and be able to hold without pressure to sell off the following day.
