Title: HD 6950 Temps 90C on Full load, Help
Post by: staticextasy on April 30, 2013, 04:29:41 AM
Like the title says my XFX HD 6950 is running so hot on full load and the case is dusted recently and fan speeds are cranked.

Its always idled around 42 C and running dual monitors it idled at 52 C, which is normal from what i have read online from these cards.

However when i crank this baby up to full load using GUI miner and -v -w128 -f2 for the flags i get about 320Mhash/s and a 90C tempature... so, things i've tried is..

Underclocking the Memory to about 800

Opened up the case, is wide open.

Freezing the room out... its like 62 F in the room right now.

It jumps from 45C to 85C in about a minute and a half..

What are my options here?

I never flashed the bios either to unlock extra shaders

CC is 800
MC 800
SC is stock
fan speed is 100%

I suggest water cooling or adding fans to your case. Also my case cools better when it is closed do to my fans and the air only having one route to go to escape.

Underclocking doesn't reduce heat as much as undervolting does, see if that 6950 has unlocked voltage. If it does drop the core freq by 50 mhz and vcore by 50-75mv.And leave memory to 1100 Mhz.

run open case, no side on it, and yes undervolt if unlocked
