Title: What's a double spend and does this mean I'll ever get my money back?
Post by: bt1740 on May 13, 2017, 10:10:29 AM
So I did this transaction 3 days ago with very low fees (wasn't aware of the unconfirmed tx problem): https://blockchain.info/tx/20a1a54ae84c05020b10a62c66a3abc8ed9e7cd9cbf4a0a922d905c96804fe9f

Waited 3 days, since the fees were very low it went unconfirmed, okay whatever learned my lesson. 3 Days later got the balance in my account. Now I have $200 + $20 I got from somewhere else for the extra fees. So I try to send to the same address again, same amount, but obviously this time with a higher fee right? So now I'm at $0 in my account. So at first after sending the transaction it's fine for a bit.. then next thing you know it's claiming it's a double spend and hasn't been confirmed yet

Tx id: https://blockchain.info/tx/60e1a310c28a4164c0f030fb2a69ec111663b18155623dda58c9c39f8658fc4d

If it helps, as soon as I sent the payment I put the txid into the viabtc accelerator and it said acc. succeeded.

Will I see my money back ever again?
How long will all of this mess take to clear up? 72 hours? Thanks

Both of your transactions spends the output of this:8185f0dec50fd47eddaf0c523f735e670f20e4c5600b8179701cbc50fd5f4f95.
Since one of the transaction is confirmed, the other transaction cannot be confirmed and subsequently any transactions that uses the output from 20a1a54ae84c05020b10a62c66a3abc8ed9e7cd9cbf4a0a922d905c96804fe9f.

In essence, https://blockchain.info/tx/3a1730632fce561d5bd54fcd1195175bf46df769a21d5e9ac95bfcf380ea918f and https://blockchain.info/tx/e055e502db5d8eb77cf9d03c90cdd77bb41b67a723c0aad0d6cf810e74e6e9cf will also not be confirmed.

All 3 of the transactions will not be confirmed.

Assuming 1MxPT2hT7SYJ2KqyvvQnndw18qxNqU6U7x is an address you control, you should see 0.058446BTC that is spendable in your wallet soon.

What wallet software (or website) did you use to send these transactions?

I am using blockchain.

Both of your transactions spends the output of this:8185f0dec50fd47eddaf0c523f735e670f20e4c5600b8179701cbc50fd5f4f95.

Are you sure I will get my money back? Because one of those tx got confirmed are you sure it can reverse back into my wallet?

Lets talk about the two transactions. Both of them spends a common output: 8185f0dec50fd47eddaf0c523f735e670f20e4c5600b8179701cbc50fd5f4f95.

Since one of your transaction has confirmed, the other one spending the same output CANNOT be confirmed. Hence, the output:(13fa04f84515c074579f6c44597f4b122973b96ec985dff0b98993e71c020c41) will not be spent. Now, since you are using Blockchain.info wallet, they follow their own blockexplorer so you will likely not see the unconfirmed funds in your account till they drop it. Anyways, before then, you still have to wait for the transaction to confirm before you can spend it.
