It's the only thing really keeping it king of the throne at this point. Personally I'd rather use XEM as my base holding and trade all alts through that, because whether people realize it or not it is the future and is going to go head to head with Ethereum within a year. Can't even do ETH pairing for a lot of the alts so XEM won't be done, and I don't want to use Tether or Monero.

This has been my position and one of the main reason why BTC will be king and anyone predicting any alt taking over from bitcoin will just be wasting his effort in that because as far as we have it till today that crypto currency is yet to be accepted as a means of exchange, the only generally accepted to be converted to Fiat is btc and the value of the others are determined in relation to the price of btc. Not this year and probably wont see it reaching 4k$ because by then i think there other currencies and other crypto tactics and each country will have there own crypto currency. More and more country would adapt coin and then each of them will have their own bank designated for only cryptocurrencies. i mean when price is rising from $1300 everyone is wishing for a $5000-50K,... prices (this topic asking for $4000). and the same goes for when it is dropping. for example it is dropping from $1800 (obviously a overdue correction) and there are chatter about extreme prices again, prices such as $800, $600, ... i personally blame altcoins for this. people see their 1000% rises and forget that they are 99.999% manipulation altcoins that go that high and fall -90% afterwards. things are nothing like that in bitcoin. Many countries after Japan are coming forward like Australia and Philippines for adopting bitcoin as a legal currency. This will give a boost but not till $4000.

Every speculation from $1000-$1800 has been touch already. All I can say is that bitcoin has shown resiliency, so whatever price you predict will be reached its just a matter of time of when, could be this year or the next coming year. I would just advise not to get excited for every new ATH or if the price goes down. If you are in for the longer term, you wouldn't worry much. You just have to guard your profit or your lost.

I think it would be achievable next halving because right now, bitcoin is stable at 1700-1800$ price ranges and a possibility of dump is open anytime. For now all we can do is either wait or hold, sell and rebuy at dump if there will be, and watch. 8)

I will throw a party in my house if we just hit $2800 this year and $3800 the next as I am currently accumulating $20 bucks here and $35 bucks there and waiting for dips to $1400-$1500 to buy back 3BTC. Then there is the problem of scaling that can hinder very much bitcoin's progress. What you are saying is correct but the recent rise is due to the news of japan accepting bitcoin as currency and same time Australia have announced that from 1 July they are going to legalize bitcoin and all taxes will get cleared and bitcoin traders will be exempted from all taxes. I believe the exchange from BTC to the USD has increased from around 600 USD to 1 BTC last year to around 1700 now. Is this a result of an increase demand for the currency? Are investors looking to buy BTC because of its rising value, this increasing the demand and price?

It's a combination of Japan having legalized Bitcoin, increased overall demand for Bitcoin as investment option, great sentiment, speculation around the ETF review, etc. Bitcoin is extremely hot right now. I must however note that I personally find the price to be on the higher side. I wouldn't be surprised to see a decent correction take the price down to the $1400 level in the coming weeks. This is why I think its a very likely possibility it will hit $4000 already this year, but such rises always have a crash that follows on shortly after.

Bitcoin is struggling to reach $2000 what more $4000 that is almost double in price. I guess Bitcoin price would be around $3000, at the end of this year. I think Japan and Australia is not enough to push BTC price to $3000. yeah bitcoin is really struggling to reach $2000 and i hope bitcoin price will be $2500 at the end of this year and next year bitcoin can be easily reach to $3000 or $4000 but now a lot of people are sure that bitcoin will be reach to $2500 at the end of this year .Title: Re: will bitcoin reach the $4000 mark this year ? Political agenda and monetary gains are what is curbing bitcoin's progress. We all saw what activation of SegWit has done to Litecoin. And now imagine what will happen to bitcoin with SegWit+Lightning Network or maybe RootStock (if developers will keep all their promises). If I look at how things are going, and might continue to go, then I think that the price will more or less settle between the $1800-$2200 levels, before the end of this year. As we have seen last months was some kind of a gold rush, but in cryptocurrency world. Almost every single crypto has increased its price, people were doing some strange things, like buying bitcoins on 2700$ level etc. To be honest, if you have been into cryptocurrencies for more than few months, there is no possibility to make such a stupid thing like buying it on such a price, just take a look on chart. The whole madness was run by new people who decided to get into this business with their money: fresh financial shot has given cryptos such a big price increases, but i really doubt that something similiar will occur in this year. Seriously, $4000 is nothing more than peanuts if we put it against what Bitcoin is really capable of at the time mass adoption starts to pick up. People back in the sub $1000 days (while it isn't that long ago), were talking about maintaining our position above the $1000 level for a good while, without falling back to thee figure levels. Currently we have greatly exceeded that what most people thought was possible in such a short period of time. Once we're finally operating larger blocks, and thus allow Bitcoin to cope with the demand in a better way, people will regret not having bought more coins at current levels. If until the end of this year seems not yet able to penetrate the price of 4K $, still around 3.5K $ price, but it all depends on the market sometimes the forecast down but the market says go up what else, we just follow the market most likely, the August 1st has passed but the segwit adaptation will be completed fully around 22nd of August, right? Yes there is full possibility that we will see that price in this year and that is the reason I am holding my coins and don't want to sell anything before that as if I sell them now then I will surely regret in future when bitcoin will achieve that price. Bitcoin goes up at the end of the year, so I think we can count on that to make the price higher but I think the price will begin to go up when segwit locks around August 10 or when segwit finally activates which will be around August 24, so I think most investors are waiting for segwit to activate before making any move.Title: Re: will bitcoin reach the $4000 mark this year ? I'm not sure with the $4000 mark. It is the middle of the year and we are yet to hit the $3000 almost nearly. That $1000 surge in five months is quite uncertain though possible. Well at this time we do not know the limit of bitcoin, especially if blocksize in enlarge, and make transaction faster. It will probably be the basis of the convenience of using bitcoin back, and make the price go up. Bitcoin's userbase is extremely small, which only points out how much growth we can experience in the forthcoming years. Seriously, $4000 is nothing more than peanuts if we put it against what Bitcoin is really capable of at the time mass adoption starts to pick up. People back in the sub $1000 days (while it isn't that long ago), were talking about maintaining our position above the $1000 level for a good while, without falling back to thee figure levels. Currently we have greatly exceeded that what most people thought was possible in such a short period of time. Once we're finally operating larger blocks, and thus allow Bitcoin to cope with the demand in a better way, people will regret not having bought more coins at current levels. We've seen Bitcoin to reach another all time high and it took just weeks to be in this state. So reaching 4000 should be easy enough for Bitcoin to attain. Considering that Bitcoin will not have any future issue/s.

Yeah reaching that price is not out of the question for bitcoin, the only problem is the fork to 2MB that the miners are planning and I do not see any reason for them to stop, especially since such a fork is going to be a lot more damaging to bitcoin since more miners and businesses are backing it.Title: Re: will bitcoin reach the $4000 mark this year ?
