Title: Calm before the storm : Segwitgate
Post by: thecrazy1 on May 15, 2017, 09:00:05 AM
When do we move on from segwit and look for other feasible solutions. I know the core developers have been pushing segwit [like their jobs depend on it  blockstream] and do not even want to consider any other solution, for some time. But for how long does it continue? Will they continue pushing it till the end and make sure bitcoin goes down with them?

Most people dont realize the dire state bitcoin is because they are happy with the recent price gains, but for new users, it is worse than paypal and other such payment options which bitcoin intended to replace. Honestly, if you got to know about bitcoin now and realized it can take days to send money even after you pay big fees, will you still consider it useful.
There are already so many real issues like regulations which bitcoin needs to overcome but instead it is focused on stupid issue for the gain of select few.

I do not want to discuss if segwit is good thing or not, I hate segwit because of the way it is being pushed to all bitcoin users and centralization issues, but I am a small time bitcoin user, so maybe I am wrong and my opinion does not matter much. Just want to know,  if the core developers are ever going to consider/propose an alternate solution?

Well its the BU team that is holding segwit back, its already been adopted on other coins. The only other thing core developers could do other than pushing segwit is to accept BU which goes against everything they believe in.

So the situation and question is not will core push it til the end and make sure bitcoin will go down with them its will BU push it until the end and make sure bitcoin goes down with them.

Segwit is the right direction, it will help bitcoin improve all the past misgivings. Please wait a nice and fast bitcoin.

So, what exactly is the Segwitgate? You do not deliver.

Nothing to see here, please move on everybody.

I dont really thing that segwit is the right decision and so is BU. Both groups are offering some kind of alternative that will stray bitcoin from its original code. Segwit compared to BU is much better but there are also negative impacts in using segwit and we cannot be also sure that it segwit will win the miner fees will go down. I am sure this centrality issue that is being connected to both miner groups are not leading us to a solution but rather to a monopolized bitcoin production.

Core have proposed their solution to the existing problems and will obviously promote it. SegWit is a scaling solution and clears the way for more scaling solutions which are partially offchain (LN).  For convenience, this will be a better choice in the long term.

Other solutions have done the exact same thing that Core has done - create a solution and propose it.  SegWit hasn't happened, so clearly Core hasn't forced it on anyone (yet at least).  Miners coming to a consensus is barely to do with Core.

I think you've been spending too much time on r/btc.  Don't head to r/bitcoin either, they're both trashy subreddits.

When you use the word "gate" attached to an event or scandal it is supposed to contain some info hidden from the public or a major info leak.

But yours is ... nothing.
Just some scribble about how you don't like something.
The 1000 thread about not liking segwit

And pretty funny you are not saying that segwit is bad or good but you hate it...
What the hell?

Yeah his ramblings don't make a lot of sense. All information is fully available to the public and the core devs have been very open about what they are fighting for.

I like segwit and I like core but i still can't help but think:

What would happen when there are more off chain transactions than the on chain ones? When bitcoin's price skyrockets to 100k$, nobody will make on chain transactions with expensive fees. Everybody will be using LN.

If everybody uses LN, then bitcoin won't be bitcoin anymore. Because on-chain transactions make what bitcoin it is now.  ???

The offchain transactions made in LN get put onchain whenever a channel closes so its still bitcoin and its still eventually onchain, it won't change anything in that regard. Its more of a solution to merge a bunch of transactions into 1 so only 1 transaction goes on chain.

Thanks to you now i fully understand what LN does and i trust LN & Segwit %100 from now on. BU shills confused me by telling that segwit is an off chain banker stuff. I read some crap like this back in the day. It seems they were trolling back then as they always do.  8)

Segwit is already priced into litecoin. It has been going down due to people waiting to hear abkut btc etf. People r putting money in btc now.

I think segwit for ltc will do well and this week and month u will see it rise hard. Never a problem to hold a little!!
