15th May, Beijing-As per the report by NBD,  over 20,000 gas station of PetroChina went offline on 13th May. Although 80% of the gas station resumed normal operation after 25 hours, it’s the first time that many ordinary people has to face the idea of Bitcoin so close. The company released a press release  to explain the situation. Many other institutes in China were also infected.  The Chinese Bitcoin community are busy clarifying “Bitcoin is a virus” as reported by some mainstream media. In the end, the winners in the attack might be those who hate to work on Mondays and the shareholders of anti-virus company in China.

Of course, it's a perfect opportunity for the Chinese government to steer the mainstream media into stating that Bitcoin is a virus. Seriously, if you have to explain people that Bitcoin isn't a virus at all, it tells a lot about how low the general IQ of people is. The severity of this attack shows that businesses, banks, universities, hospitals, etc, don't take system security serious at all. In most cases it comes from running older windows versions that don't receive any updates to fix security holes anymore. Penny pinchers.

What's up with the 8btc site? It always takes ages to load.

I know certain government departments that are still making use of Windows XP!! It has indeed all to do with them looking to cut costs everywhere possible. I seriously hope that this will be a lesson for every entity to ditch older versions of windows, and to make use of proper anti virus tools. It's mind boggling that hospitals have to move surgeries to a different day just because of this. Shame on them -- it could have been avoided pretty easily. After all, they lost more than they have "gained" by cutting costs.

That's the problem with the Chinese government. Bitcoin cannot be classify as a virus. Still they didn't know what bitcoin technology is even with the Chinese. I only speculate that they want to characterized bitcoin is more harming that beneficial to the general public. We all have to take protecting are online business seriously, because hackers are really looking for any exploit they can find specially on Windows OS to inflict harm or like we now see, extort money. But thanks to the hackers, people now are taking steps to upgrade all systems before they become the next victim of such an attack.

People say this is not a government sanctioned attack, but I differ from them. Looking at the targets... Gas providers and hospitals and some

government institutions that used outdated OS's....  ??? Some people seem to think these attacks are coming from North Korea. Anyone know

how hard Japan has been hit by this? { If it was severe... then the timing is not a coincidence }  ???
