Is Ethereum better than Bitcoin? Why or why not?

For me ethereum and bitcoin is good investment . Like ethereum the price before its veru low and if you see the price now its very high its like a bitcoin. This two coin is for longterm inveatment and if you want more money its better if you invest in ethereum and bitcoin . Ethereum is still continue increase andt the bitcoin also. And bitcoin price will become double after end of this year and the price of the ethereum become double. I can make profit because that coins.

the amount of ethereum is larger than Bitcoin. The technology inside is better. Ethereum is based on the smart contract. You can build many things in the smart contract. Therefore, Ether is better

It go down clearly in last 5 days.

* bitcoin is a cryptocurrency.
* ethereum is a platform designed for smart contracts (what you currently see as many ICOs) it is not a currency!

* btc is decentralized.
* eth is centralized.

* btc has been working for a long time, has been under constant attacks from hackers, government, banks, media, ... to either break its positive view in the world or hack bitcoin itself and destroy it. they have been unsuccessful for the past 8 years (as long as bitcoin existed)
* eth has been around much shorter and it has already been exploited once by DAO and other times in smaller scales. and everything in the media about eth is coming from their advertising team with the same script praising it with false information.

* btc had no premine, no ICO or anything crappy like that. anybody could mine any time they wanted and get the same reward from blocks starting from block 1 and many did in the early days.
* eth had a huge ICO which gave them control over 70% of the supply of this coin.

* btc has a reasonable amount of coins available and has a clear inflation rate and a clear and well planned maximum amount of coins available (currently 16+ million are mined and there will be 21 million by the end)
* eth has no cap, it is not clear when or if it will ever have any cap. for the time being they are happy about the growing fake market cap which is giving them a high rank. there is currently 91+ million coins available and there are new coins being created every day.

* btc is adopted by other people other than traders, a lot of shops merchants etc are using it as a currency.
* eth is not used by anything other than ICOs and traders.


these are things that i can think of so far. and the conclusion about which one is better is on you.

What do You call "a lot of shops"?

no its not, bitcoin will always be the number one above all, it is the pioneer of all coins, we can say that bitcoin is the father of all coins and they are only depends on bitcoin. bitcoin cannot be replaced by other coin.

Both of them has their own pros and cons but in my opinion Ethereum is better than Bitcoin because of its centralization and using smart contracts. Traders prefer to use ETH because of it's low price. 

It's not a simple comparison. Both have advantages and disadvantages, but Ethereum is coming with smart contract that gives life to initial coin offerings... This is very promising, and there is nothing similar in Bitcoin.

yes I agree with you, bitcoin will always be the number 1 for me and it no other coin will be compared to bitcoin, it has the highest amount of value and i think it has the highest number of investors also. many people more known bitcoin than any other coin. and bitcoin has been there for almost a year . for me Bitcoin is better than any other coins.

Just check the result of buying $10000 of Ethereum some 3 Monts ago in front of the same for BTC.

i would say bitcoin. the value is out of this world

Until now I choose bitcoin better then etherium & I am sorry about that. Etherium price down below ( follow ) bitcoin and people more knew about bitcoin knowledge than etherium. But etherium is number two after bitcoin for everything, such as trade, investment, and side jobs. Maybe you need to try bitcoin and etherium together, so you have a clear conclusion about that. Like or not, bitcoin and etherium or another cryptocurrency is another way to get more profit. Do you ??

For me they are both better when it comes it investing investing in bitcoin was a myth already can make you rich this days but at this point we dont expect in the bitcoin price to go super high at all so you much invest in the early years even at eth investment its not pumping to much at this moment.

ethereum is much better than bitcoin that's the reality. its just that bitcoin come out the first and being adopted by stores. if it weren't for the stores accepting it, btc would have no value. but ethereuem has almost everything to make its price soar due to smart contracts.

no it's not better than bitcoin it's only a good alternative if you want to use another currency or investment choose ethereum, it's very safe, if bitcoin one day go down you have ETH, it's good for this reason to have a sort of backup altcoin, but i don't like ETH too much too much centralization with vitalik dictating everything

Although the technology is better in terms of its potential, it is also a lot harder to sustain (so, code is potentially less stable than that of bitcoin). Just recall atacks eth platform has suffered so far. There should be a good reason why bitcoin is still number one and there is nothing even close to btc in terms of price and common recognition. I think bitcoin is uflexible but that also makes it easy and stable for uses among many people.

You are comparing apples to oranges. Ethereum is not positioning itself as a currency although this could be a side effect of its success.

You can not compare them by these criteria.
These are completely different products.
Each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages.

I think for now is NO, their difference were so long. Also it's a long road for ethereum before close it to bitcoin. However, let see if the ethereum making fast in the future to become closer to bitcoin.

They are two different propositions. Ethereum has more long term potential. When I say long term I'm talking 5 to 10 years. Dont worry bitcoin is not going to disappear any time soon.

yes bitcoin even has more potential, because the price of bitcoin already cross 2000 USD level and still going to increase. people are are still very confident about bitcoin they are even not going to sell their bitcoin and going to keep them for next high price.

in fact bitcoin is the main currency that people use not only for trading and  investment but they also use it for so many other purposes. as we most use bitcoin for online shopping, because most of the online shops only accept bitcoin for shopping and not any other currency.

They can not be compared. They are both good.

My opinion is that the ethereum has a more practical code should be more liquid. At the same time, bitcoin is the father of all crypto currencies and on the stock exchanges all the altcoins can be bought for bitcoin, because it is also very liquid, too. It is difficult to answer who is better.

I think more people will stick to ETH in future because BTC has slow speed and high transaction cost. ETH is better investment than BTC, it has support of many people and still has a lot more space to grow.

I hodl some ETH from bounties for long term investment, I can always exchange it if I need money. I like that it is easy to sell when I need fiat money.
