Title: Average Bitcoin Owned Per User
Post by: shamzblueworld on May 17, 2017, 04:19:39 AM
So we cannot know how many users of bitcoin are there or how many bitcoin they own, but I think as a huge percentage of bitcoin owners do visit this forum from time to time, we can have an idea about the average through the poll above.
As you see its quite simple, just vote for the option suitable for you on how much bitcoin you own and lets see what on average a bitcoin user owns.

no you can not because nobody will ever announce how much bitcoin they really own in a non-anonymous way. by the way i know it is a poll.

the only thing is to scan the blockchain and see how much bitcoin on average is in one "bitcoin address"

This could help you but it's very hard if not impossible to figure out whose address belongs to who  ;D

Quite simple, don't?

Get an estimation of how many people owns Bitcoins, then see how many Bitcoins have been mined and subtract the amount that probably is lost, then do a division and get the result.

More interesting and not so simple is how are the bitcoins distributed

It is difficult to know how many users there are now, as one person can have many different wallets for different purpose, only the right amount of BTC can be identified and the number of addresses used.

You are hoping that people will be honest in their response and that kind of thinking is flawed. People know forums and other surveys are hackable and people with the wrong ideas might hack into these methods of gathering information and then pick targets to hack based on the amounts they have divulged there.

Do you go around and spread information on how much gold and silver you have or how much money you have in the bank on public forums? Why do it with Bitcoin information?

But people don't use a single address for all of their transactions, one person can be using 100 addressed for 100 transactions. So doing what you suggested will be quite a dedicated and tough work.
And secondly I though the polls are anonymous. I mean apart from the owners of the forum to see from the database, can a user see who voted what?

I think that majority of users owe a small amount of Bitcoins and that the coins are still distributed uneven. And the very small number of users owe very large amount of Bitcoins but there are not much of them who are actualy willing to disclose the exact number of coins they have.

Poll is too granular between 1-10 and not enough between 10-100

As the BTC price skyrocketed, there are very fewer people who have more than 10 BTC. Only those who were holding BTC from long time are having them. Those who started earning recently, may not even achieve to hold 1 BTC as it is difficult to earn all of that.

I vote for between 0.5 and 1 because i think that most of the users of bitcoin is not that serious collecting and saving bitcoin and most of them are just getting started so if you estimate it then 0.5 and 1 is the best option for me because for a newbie, it is hard to earn or get that either 0.5 and 1 unless they buy it.

This is just my opinion if your telling about the an average bitcoin user probably around 0.05 bitcoin they have because they are just getting started in bitcoin probably they dont have a big amount of bitcoin yet so aroung 0.05 i guess but if they are investing or an investor probably more than 1bitcoin.

Personally, I think its between .05-1BTC average per user. Only few has even hundred or thousands, only the big whales or millionaires has this kind of btc in their wallet. And for those professional traders, I honestly, believe they don't even own 10 btc as well. And majority of bitcoin users, rely on a signature campaign to earn btc, and we all know that we can only earn small amount through it. So my educate guess is less than 1 btc.

I agree with you, but remember when bitcoin was under $500 or even $200? Signature campaign were at use back then too and paying decent amount of bitcoin, and we have many many hero and legendary members here, and also if they were also trading alts, they could have doubled their btc in not so long time.

I'm speechless seeing this amount !!

If someone who own this address is 1 person, just enjoy his life without being worried.
But the disadvantage is when he/she decide to sell all of his/her amount of bitcoin , the value will decrease significantly !

these addresses with huge balances usually belong to services that are dealing with a lot of money. for example the exchanges, miners, payment processors, web wallets like coinbase, ... and this is the total bitcoin of their users.

Bitcoin wasn't invented to be equally distributed. The ones who found it first and realized the potential are the lucky winners. As well as the ones with big pockets who can afford to buy a few thousand coins.
That's how the world is. Accept it or not.

I think that 99% of the bitcoin users own only a few thousand satoshis. ;D
Wecan`t be sure that all participants in the poll tell the truth.
I can vote for 1000 bitcoins,but i don` t have them.

Big investors hold large volume of bitcoin, whereas average men hold less than 0.5 btc. Though they are aware that the price is simply not affordable, most users try hard to save as much possible through differesnt earning availabilities that are available. There are users who make regular investment on bitcoin from the income for living hoping for an enormous growth to profit in the best way possible.

Of course not, but of course everyone will be able to see where they stand in owning number of bitcoins when compared with the majority on bitcointalk at least.
Although it will not be 100% correct, but it won't be 100% wrong either, so it will be some sort of an 'average' of course, which is alright I guess.

There are two addresses that has 100k bitcoins and above. Satoshi Nakamoto must be one of them and is very rich at this moment. Looking at the data the highest number of users who owns bitcoin has a bracket of 0 to 100k satoshi. Hope we can also find some statistic on which country has the most bitcoin owned. I am really thankful that this topic was pointed out.

I guess it can't be calculated. As bitcoins are made to be moved from person to person.
For example I have periods owning 100+ bitcoins (when the price was a lot cheaper) and periods with 0, then again with some.
You can calculate only average per wallet, but anybody could have as many wallets as he wants.

https://bitinfocharts.com/top-100-richest-bitcoin-addresses.html according to this site there is no wallet which holds more then 1% of all the BTC, which i found interesting, but sure who would keep more then 250 mil worth of bitcoin in one adress :D
It would be fun if we could compare some fiat currencies vs. crypto currencies in aspect of biggest owners of currencies.
I think that we don't have to worry about those big guys who own a lot of bitcoins, eventually they will sell some of them. It may cause a bubble to pop and that's about it. Then we should see stable price growth and one ''big'' guy less and that should lead to perfect stability after some time.

Yes, especially if you include satoshi's ~1 million btc, then your average will be much larger than your median.  But with all the other large holders, I guess that will be the case regardless.
