Title: Since when Bittrex asks for name, address... for crypto to crypto trading?
Post by: pereira4 on May 17, 2017, 12:39:50 PM
Im getting sick of Poloniex's lags so I searched for an alternative and the only alternative is Bittrex because the rest of exchanges no volume.

Turns out Bittrex is asking for all of that data and checks it on a public record:

Quote
How do you verify accounts?

Basic accounts require users to submit their name, address, and birth date to us.  We verify it through public records.  If we can verify you through public records, we will accept your application for a basic account.  If public records do not match you can also enter a mobile phone number and receive a text to become Basic verified.  If that fails as well you will need to proceed to an enhanced verification.

https://bittrex.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/215282838

I have been using a fake name on Poloniex for ages and they don't care. But in Bittrex it looks like they actually verify it with public records so I don't want to risk getting my funds frozen if they find out I use a fake name and a VPN.

Fuck this. Looks like im stuck with Poloniex.

I'm not from the US but even then I also use a fake name for Bittrex since forever but it's not safe to do so as they could start demanding for verification any day now.

That's what they have to do in order to comply with the regulations (AML, KYC).

maybe they now do but i have been with them since time and they don't verify whether i'm real.

but why don't you use a name that's somehow believeable and have some documents for it. there's also cryptopia which don't care whether who you are.

Im trading on Bittrex.for around two months and have not ask for my address or any id. Luckily i just register there early. Anyway, that's sad because only few exchanges are decentralised. My suggestion is to give your identity. If you're not doing anything bad. Why not give your id?

How can I use a name that's "somehow believable" and have documents for it? That's nonsense.

Anyway, I tried entering fake data and I got rejected. They check against public records. This is bullshit. Fuck bittrex and fuck poloniex for their lag. The rest of exchanges have no volume so it's useless, can't find good buy orders.

How does your account look like in "account information"? Do you have the "DIGITAL TOKEN TRADING" box empty?

And i dont want to enter information because I dont trust the exchanges or anyone on the internet.

Unfortunately that is the way tings are heading. Look at Coinbase and the IRS problems. The solution is a DECENTRALIZED exchange like Bitsquare.  There is also some new decentralized technology for trading coming out. This is really awesome:

"Unlike ShapeShift, Swap users can set prices and make orders, and have the ability to fill orders from multiple counterparties. Unlike 0x, Swap users are matched on intent to buy or sell, rather than trading on a public order book...."

I opened a Bittrex account a few days ago.  I was surprised at how little was required (name, address, and confirmation of my phone number via SMS).

At least you don't have to submit ID's and documents.

But I suppose if that's stricter than what was required before, it may take some getting used to.

Not a problem for me, though.

are you sure, i have legacy account type and it's not required any name or address, i didn't even put any name lol or anything just my username, but my limit to withdrawal is only 1 btc, i checked and my account type is not recognized, it's because i created this account long time ago maybe

You could always just you know, use your real identity and pay your taxes when the time comes...

Peace of mind doesn't come cheap

more and more people will be rejected later just when they named themselves as Pier its not a human, its a dog's name. try something else and edit a document for it in case they need some for verification. i was accepted to forex brokers without hassle by editing utility bills and driver's license.

I seldom trade in Bittrex but will never give my credentials here I am more comfortable with being anonymous and I think they will never ask that since I am a member long ago and they only ask for new users of their exchange.

Question - Why is nobody using BITSQUARE. We all whine about centralized exchanges like Polo and Bittrex and then nobody uses the decentralized exchange. What is that about?

There are other exchanges you can try, such as hitBTC, Allcoin etc...

Go to coinmarketcap, sort by exchanges, and then check them all out till you find one that suits your needs.

well, you can provide them some ID. It is not hurt much. If you want to become anonymity, I think you must know how to fake ID or something like that

We need a proper replacement for exchanges like poloniex, where we can trade at big volumes, set orders, tons of altcoins... bitsquare is ultimately just a marketplace, it's not a true exchanger with a brooker and tons of action happening.

We will have that maybe in the future with lightning network contracts.

If public records doesn't match than I think we can use only our mobile number to receive text to get basic verification, which may not cause any problem even if you are using them with fake name. I am using both bittrex and polo but i have used my real name and details in both of them and ok to send them any documents if they ask me.

there is no taxe to pay for crypto, maybe if you live in the USA, but if i'm from another country why i should pay for the taxes of another country? i don't accept this, it's better to leave fake fields there or intentionally don't put anything until they want to ask for it, if the withdrawals are low they don't care anyway so i don't care either lol
