I am *completely new* to Altcoins, but am getting fed-up with the problems of Bitcoin confirmation times and high fees.  I am considering alternatives for some of my crypto holdings.

I saw no obvious thread for altcoin beginners here just now.

What "Alts" are reasonably easy to use yet fairly liquid (easy to buy, etc.)?

At this point, ease-of use is most important to me, if I go down "Alt Road", I may later want to look at features like better than BTC anonymity for example.

at this moment eth and LTC is the best choice for me,,
both has lower fee and the confirmation also fast, not like bitcoin at this moment,,

Easy to use? Easy to use for what? Alts are only traded and speculated on. They are all easy to use and trade. Pick one that has a price chart with lots of increas and lots of volume.

So far I was dealing with litecoin only in attempts to buy/sell and earn this way. Ethereum seems easy to use but I can't tell you about the fees. I didn't have many transactions but those which I had proceeded instantaneously. People say litecoin is fast and cheap, I think this is also true. Other alts are not taken that serious yet and so there aren't many ways to use them anyhow.

btc is getting to be very annoying.

I guess we cant use the alternative coins as a currency in many ways because there are so many altcoins in the market and almost all on them doesnt have a value at all but there are some currency like zcash,eth,monero,litecoin who have a value that we can use but mostly we just use altcoins in a exchanger or a trading site.

doge ltc of course there are others but for ease of use you cant really beat those 2 options they have a lot of volume too.

I use many coins but those 2 are always reliable, fast.

although my first choice is bitcoin but whenever i realize to stop investing in bitcoin because of the high price of bitcoin. then i will like to invest n Etherium as Etherium also have good potential to increase its price and hope that it will give us a good profit.

in fact we can use altcoins mostly for trading and investment purposes, because most of the online shops do not accept altcoins, but they only accept bitcoin which is the main currency, therefore i also do not think that it is so easy to use alt in daily life.

With no dounbt,bitcoin would be the first choice.If you need a second option,then you could try Ethereum which is the second oldest crypto coin.Even though,it had split into two earlier,ETH and ETC,still ETH would be the best choice.

you don't use altcoin sadly, they are all pump and dump i can't use liek bitcoin to buy stuff, that is the beauty of bitcoin and no alt can match this, but you can try with monero and litecoin, monero is used on the deepweb and litecoin was used in the past and accepted by some online website, not sure if they still accept it now

It doesn't matter what and how you can buy stuff with it at the moment. What matters is what's to come when the developement is finnished. Bitcoin today is as bad or even worse than any of the alts out there. We are seeing a slow but steady shift away from bitcoin, thank god!

If you are concerned about more anonymity then i think Monero(XMR) would be a good choice but speaking of wide variation of transactions with less confirmation times i think ETH would be suited on this one.This is just my own perspective and there are still some altcoin does have the qualities that you are looking for and i do somehow agree about the problem arising on bitcoin network as of now.

meh, you will never get any proper answers out of this community whenever you ask for suggesting altcoins, no matter for what purpose. they will always suggest the coins that are either pumped or they wish to be pumped.

i'm afraid our only choice is to test them ourselves!
download the wallet software, try installing it and running it for a while, try sending some transactions, ...

and also the other problem is adoption, which altcoins don't have.

I am in the same boat like you at the moment​. I did some research and Etherium has some easy to use wallets, that work very similar to Bitcoin, so you can use ETH as a payment method. It is also gaining in market cap, so it should increase number of stores/people accepting it.

To OP : Maybe you should take a look at Dash (former Darkcoin), which is addressing pretty much all the issues which has hamstring Bitcoin so badly  
(the long confirmation time, the high fees, the lack of governance which is creating indecisiveness about Bitcoin direction).

I agree ethereum fits the best after Bitcoin and then you can also try litecoin for payments as that confirms very fast and it's very cheap in terms of transfer rates.

litecoin is a safe bet for transfering money without the bitcoins fees

I am investing in LTC now because it is so much cheaper than bitcoin and Etherium.  The transaction times seem quicker too.

I agree with everyone who said litecoin. It has the closest characteristics to bitcoin but slightly faster and has more exciting possibilities after the activation of segwit. The Lightning Network will be pivotal in its development.

LTC is a good option when it comes to ease of usage.
ETH is another good option with less confirmation time.

Yeah right, the demand to bitcoin and altcoin is outrageous but I would not like to compare them, they might not have the same purpose but they do have the same goal.

ETH is not good for OROBTC. He is looking for something that is the closest to bitcoin. Ethereum has a very large and growing blockchain and that will be something that will make it hard to scale. He will then be back again to the same problems bitcoin is having. Litecoin already has segwit in place and it is ready to scale.
