Title: What about this fee?
Post by: lolxxxx on May 21, 2017, 09:36:38 AM
I have found a transaction https://blockchain.info/tx/cc455ae816e6cdafdb58d54e35d4f46d860047458eacf1c7405dc634631c570d which has paid 291 bitcoins for only 0.0001 transaction!
What was the purpose of this transaction. Why they have paid that much fee? This is insane.

the place where you found this transaction probably had a good explanation for it, if not you could have just googled the transaction ID and find the reason for it (https://www.google.com/search?q=cc455ae816e6cdafdb58d54e35d4f46d860047458eacf1c7405dc634631c570d)

and apparently this was a mistake and the mining pool known as BitClub offered to return this amount to the sender, although many find the situation a bit controversial..

Probably just a publicity stunt for miners to show how accommodating they might be to return people's money, if they send the wrong fee. I cannot see how a experienced Bitcoin user will make such a bad mistake. < hoping that someone with that amount of coins has enough experience and knowledge not to make these kinds of mistakes > This was very quickly noticed and just as easily solved, so this leads me to believe that this was staged. ^conspiracy^

It doesn't have anything to do you with you, why are you asking about people moving their money around?  It is said to be a positive woth Bitcoin that everything can be seen on the blackchain, but if Bitcoin was ever really used as a currency, I guess we would have nosey people looking through everyone's transactions and asking what they were for and why the paid x fee!

If you are moving coins between wallets, then it isn't urgent, so you can try to save on fees. Rich people are often prudent, so won't pay more than neccessary.
