Post by: BitzMD on May 02, 2013, 08:17:45 AM
Putting this up so no one else falls for his crap. Looks like theirs a swarm of these pathetic low lives.

Initiated a transaction with him, sent 12 LTC with nothing in return.

This is getting out of control now, I myself almost got done 4 times trying to buy FC the other day, lucky I didn't send first but others weren't soo lucky.

Maybe we need some kind of escrow service?

Not everyone is a scammer, but in case of doubt is always good policy to send small tranches, waiting each time for their payment before sending the next tranche. Any trader that don't accept you to use tranches shouldn't be trusted at all. Of course, a escrow can be a good solution too. You can always use bitmit.net or a trusted member of the forum.

Without escrow, the most important piece of advice I can think of is never send the more valuable/trusted currency first.

You must be very wealthy person. I suggest sending in bits of 1 BTC / 30 LTC - won't be a big loss in case of a scammer

Yep, sending 16.8 BTC first all at once is insane. I'm an honest guy, but even I would be tempted to take the BTC and run.

I know the many wonderful benefits of direct p2p trades, but if you are getting burned why not use one of the many trading sites? I've been into Cryptsy for a while now, but on many coins there is little volume. I don't understand it.

As much as people don't trust p2p trades... they don't like putting coins on a site that could shut up shop instantly etc... also some people prefer to p2p trade as that allows each party to barter and dictate the price.. to have lack of depth in a market to sell large amounts is also another reason y people do p2p.... also don't forget the volitile prices these currencies have ... leave a massive buy order in at a high rate on a site and you'd dfeel gutted if you saw the market crash by the time you got in to pull out your order... tis many factors that go into the trade... :)

oh yeah and don't forget the no fee from the exchange on the trade!!

If you're being honest, I am incredibly sorry for you. 16.80 BTC, that's terrible  :( That's worth more than all of the coins I hold put together (pathetic I know)

I wish you luck in future trades
