I am interested to apply, but deeply concerned with his trust rating. $20 per article seems not realistic to me (unless if he wants me to write 2,000 words per article). The only way for him to be trusted at least is upfront payment. I respect what you're trying to do man, but please understand how trust factor works in this forum.

You are committing a fallacy there.Because he is a hero member,he should be trusted automatically ? And there are fewer chances he will scam as he has put in a lot of efforts to get where he is ,that is getting the hero member status.In the world of account sales,anyone could easily buy a hero account and trick you into it.You should not judge a member by their status especially when you know they've scammed in the past.

Don't trust people because of the account level. You can easily buy accounts. A scammer could buy a Hero account and then scam a bunch of people.

When a DT member said that he cannot be trusted, you don't have to hesitate about working for this guy, the only reason of red trust is he has scammed someone earlier.

Your pay is very high as one of my friend is going to start writing for someone who is paying $10 to him for the articles and for some essays but the only problem from you is that you are tagged as a scammer by some DT members that is why I will also ask for escrow first.
