Title: Thinking to built a very cheap PC for mining, question?
Post by: Cereberus on May 25, 2017, 12:36:47 PM
I am very happy with what I am achieving in my mining PC-s with my friends. We always use SSD and that costs almost 100 Euro here we are a good brand like Samsung Evo. Right now I am thinking to buy parts from internet and have chosen as the cheapest configuration this one :

1. HDD used 320 GB 25 Euro 100% clean
2. New BiostarTB85 Mining motherboard LGA 1150 -120 Euro
3. Processor G1840 or G3250(with 3250 I am actually mining and never tried G1840) 35-50 Euro
4. 8GB DDR3 used about 40-45 Euro
5. PSU-Thermaltake 750 watt toughpower gold plus(supports up to 4 cards 3 RX 480/580 and 1 RX 470/570) for 100 Euro

Cards I buy wherever I can, used, second hand etc. What do you think of this configuration, any cheaper one maybe ?

Give me some suggestions.

Edit: I guess the G1840 works well cause I am mining with an E5500 dual core processor at my work place :)

Looks about right.  You may be able to go down to 4GB memory depending on what you mine..

The only thing I would say is possibly get a higher wattage power supply - as you will be limited to the number of GPUs you can attach..  I use EVGA 1000GQ which are good - and is 1000 watts.

Well I misstyped it ,it is a 850 watt toughpower and it supports up to 5 cards but I will use 4 without problem. I have the final question before making the payments.

Any difference in SSD compared to HDD in mining, (I don't care about slow loading of the system) ?

Thanks.Locking this thread now and withdrawing 0.20 bitcoins which should be more than enough to build a board with 1 gpu only as a beginning. I am sticking with TB85 from Biostar, same as Asrock Pro BTC but about 60 Euro cheaper. I never heard for problems for this kind of motherboard.
