Title: Transacting in Litecoin or Etherium?
Post by: BreathOfZen on May 26, 2017, 03:00:35 PM
Hello all,
I was looking to resume sales of various collectibles, but am very uncomfortable with relying on Bitcoin for transactions due to the lag and cost involved. Are people on these boards interested in using either Litecoin or Etherium to buy things as well?

It's impossible to generalise with these things.

All I would do is offer to accept Bitcoin, Litecoin or Ethereum and specify a USD price based on a certain site to protect against volatility.

When someone offers to pay in Bitcoin, ask if they're willing to pay in Litecoin/ETH and if not, accept payment in Bitcoin.

You're much less likely to sell it accepting only altcoins, since the fees of sending Bitcoin to an exchange, converting currency and then sending is much higher than the fees of just sending Bitcoin.  Not everyone holds altcoins already, me included.

There will not be any guarantee that there will be enough people for your business with altcoin payments. I agree we need to wait long for confirmations with bitcoin payments. But when you will be ready to pay higher fees, there will not be any problems. I guess you may plan to add more payment options for you business along with bitcoin payments.

It is always good to have more choices, so I suggest you to add new payment options but do not remove bitcoin payment options. Moreover, in quick time we are going to have segwit implemented then we do not need to face the problems of higher fees/long confirmation delays.

No need to repeat what members commented above me and I would welcome collectibles for altcoins like Litecoin and Ethereum, especially in Ethereum since I usually have funds in them.

However, calculate into your price that I prefer to pay in a coin that has an actual bump  :)

Are you sure that you are getting more business just due to adopting Ethereum payments for your venture ? I am asking this because there will be no enough awareness on different altcoins among common people so they will be switching over to new payments system after finding bitcoin payments is relatively slow and expensive.

If is it really happening for the improvement of business, then we can go it without any hesitations. But I hope people will keep bitcoin payments also as another options.

You should accept both Bitcoin and Ethereum though Ethereum is not a coin but platform on which you can build contracts. Accept also Litecoin though it isn't as popular as was years ago.

A lot of important are now investing in Ethereum let alone btc that has countries investing in it. Ethereum recently has a high price increase rate so i think it is gaining a lot of attention and trust to some investors. altough i would agree that litecoin now is on a low profile but in terms also of increase rate it has a positive mark during the past days but not close enough to its highest peek.

Ethereum are quitely popular nowadays and theirs no doubt on its huge adoption that will occur on it in future since mostly it was been the most outrageous coin among other alts who competing bitcoins right now and it gets positive repsonse right now due to its outstanding price rice happening right now. But for Litecoin well i cannot guarantee anybody to put their trust 100% on it since we know litecoin is little more strugling to risen up himself and surely people will just think that this coin is just an alternative for their coin to be traded  with.

When you start dealing any transactions using altcoins, especially Ethereum all people here will follow your rules with no doubt. No one can argue with popularity of Ethereum with all the advantages, fast, easy, low fee etc.
I think people on this board is welcoming any future and various payments for easy transactions.

Everybody wants easy transactions, but this issue has not yet been resolved. I have heard a lot about the fact that some holders of crypto currency prefer to use alternate currencies in order to avoid long transactions.

Recently a large user base turned towards the ethereum for all the transaction requirement as the value increased along with the faster confirmation with less fee than bitcoin. Now the volatility over ethereum is found high and the value decline would happen any time because of bitcoin price drop. This has made people come back to bitcoin..

I agree to the early replies that it would be better to have multiple option in terms of payments.  This way you can cater different altcoin community in your store.   Instead of choosing one of many altcoins try to cater as many mode of payment as you can.  In business world, it is always good to have a wide range of target customer.

Hmm, indeed some time now this bitcoin experienced quite a long transaction level. So all of that can make us lose some of the funds or the opportunity to gain a greater advantage, but indeed this is a concern because it is based on a system that exceeds the charge so that the system now is going very heavily. For transactions using other currencies, I prefer to ethereum. Because the Eth has almost the same opportunity with bitcoin

I wonder how long this would take (if the receiver ultimately only wants BTC, rather than take altcoins directly from you, you have them converted to their BTC address): https://www.coinpayments.net/supported-coins-convert-XRP-BTC

for me I will be happy buying things in litecoin as I hold value in it. You can really succeed in your business idea if you really have a long term investment views. Most of the coins are still at the infancy stage and many people may not patronising you from beginning as they may not have litecoin or Ethereum to buy with.

Of course Ethereum even though the price of litecoin were started to raised up, I think it was for mean time not for long time. Not like ethereum that price until now were steady and ready to raised up any time.

Etherum and litecoin seems to be promoting at many places in the forum apart from altcoin discussion section. In price wise also growth much faster than bitcoin. Yesterday only I noticed that Coinbase wallet implementing ETH and Litecoin account in one wallet. Whatever i expect bitcoin to be in top not altcoins.

Recently when the price of bitcoin went higher people have started to hold ethereum along with bitcoin. This has helped people to use ethereum for the transaction purpose due to the faster confirmation than bitcoin.

The problem with the delay in the transactions and higher fees are making people move on to altcoins, especially ETH and LTC. But most of them never reduced their BTC stash. Even ETH and LTC are growing gradually and there is a hype going around as hard fork is on the corner.

In short, diversification at its best and its not really bad to select an alternative because there are people would really love to use either ETH or LTC on purchasing something online and there are sellers who are willing to accept it as a payment. Its not actually they do switch fully on altcoin and leaving bitcoin but they are making other way on making money.

I just selected the Ethereum, because ethereum was so valuable now. Did you see the price now? I think their price was unstoppable hoping that is continue until they reach the $1000 per ETH.

I think they will not choose either of two as a payment for any product on their services or menu.Bitcoins is still the mainstream of cryptocurrency and those big altcoins will just shine if bitcoins will eventually come to end and replaced by one of them

Most people can think like you, but I'm already seeing some people dealing with each other with LTC or ETH because the fee costs of BTC. For now these people will continue using especially these two altcoins to transact here, until the BTC fees become lower than now. I have no problem in dealing with these two currencies as their price is good and always go up or stay stable on medium-long term.

I just want to pick the ethereum even though their price was slightly fall down I believe that in the future value of this coins was continues increasing. However, I was not lose hope that fall down of ethereum value was not affect to the marketing of this coins.

They will only have interest into litecoin and ethereum if bitcoins will totally fall down and get shut down,Yeah those altcoins are making news but bitcoins is alot bigger so no chance for ltc and eth now

I would say to use Litecoin, I personally use litecoin where ever I can, it is a well established and well known coin that:
 - is still cheap enough for the average person to purchase.
 - is more stable in price than ETH.
 - Fast Tx.
 - Still has yet to meet its potential regarding price.

I believe there will be big increase businesses using litecoin in the future, currently I wish there was more.

Yes I agree on this.
The issue here is the slow and high fee in every transaction.
Litecoin have a fast and low fee transaction that every consumers can enjoy.
Why settle for less if you will have a choice. Btc as we all know have all these problem.
And we're all hoping to correct this matter.

I just bet to ethereum instead or litecoin because ethereum is more expensive compared to litecoin also their potential in the market is more interesting than litecoin.

Definitely yes. Its getting harder everyday to do transactions with BTC and hopefully it will be a better environment after the fork. So I guess everyone here would love to use Litecoin or ETH for buying and selling stuff. Would be looking forward to your collectibles shop.

Yes I agree, now the market cap of ethereum more than $35 million after Bitcoin (about $42m), the best features of ethereum is faster and cheaper fees than litecoin.

i think if there is any payment that accept altcoin, it will help customer to use altcoin to pay the product. while bitcoin it seems having a delay in confirming transaction, we can used altcoin to pay the transaction so we don't have to confuse or disappointed with a long confirming transaction.

Alternate coins can be a part of payment method but needs to keep the bitcoin as a primary method because most people yet do not hold altcoins.

I don't think altcoins serve as an alternate for payment, because these days the acceptance of altcoins for shopping and related needs is quite low compared to Bitcoin. So one cannot make use of altcoins, but these days more users due to the delay in transaction has jumped to ethereum for faster transaction.

But the price of ethereum is too volatile and the network is stuck many times in a week.
I support the use of alternative coins for shopping but only the high ranked coins. So litecoin may be the best choice right now, you may add other altcoins later in your customer's demand.

I don't think so. As people still prefer to use bitcoins over LTC or ETH. Since there is a cost of converting bitcoins to other altcoins anyway. So most likely people will prefer to use BTC still.

And besides this is a bitcoin forum.

After ETH price has been climbed to 250$ and more, we most of the trying to hold the ETH and some of buying litecoin also as much we can.
If you noticed the implementation of ETH and btc comparatively you could understand the how ETH is ridding off the btc place by the whales. I wish people to use bitcoin much to increase the mining supply. Henceforth, mining fee also will reduce in bitcoin.

The transaction processing time doesnt take that much time for me it gets confirmed in 25-30 mins and you dont need to pay high fees for your transactions to get confirmed. You can do the standard send and receive transaction in bitcoin without any need to pay high fees, most people stills prefers bitcoin as a safe haven to store a their assets traders only buys LTC and ETH for short term investment because it is the current hype currencies while investors invest millions of their dollars to BTC for long term.
