Title: Success with donation addresses in signatures
Post by: tsvekric on June 19, 2011, 08:24:06 AM
Just posting out of curiosity, how many of you have received a random donation by having it in your signature?  Do you think it was in response to something you posted (someone liked what you said, pity, etc)?

I've seen a few instances on these boards where someone liked what someone else posted so much that they posted in response 'x btc to you!'
Instead of 'likes' or 'karma' some people are getting paid for being valuable contributors to this forum, which is pretty cool.

I have not received anything yet. Would you like to change that?  ;D

hah, wasn't really looking to do some charity...
If I was an early adopter or a decent miner I probably would send out some bitcents occasionally.  Or if I was a speculator who got in at the right time... but I'm just trying to get enough to start using what I have.

No donations yet.  I have been directly challenged to bet with the global moderator though.  For 5.0 Bitcoins, which I don't even have to my name : (

It seems like cheap begging, never understood the point of putting one in a signature. It's not like 99.9 people will recieve anything.

Then again, I do waste a lot of BTC sending money to people's wallets here on the forums if they post something funny or valuable.

Sent almost 1.5btc this week, lol. I mostly send random 0.05 donations.

I got 5 bitcents at one point.  I don't know why.

Because we're COOL BITCOIN USERS nobody will EVER UNDERSTAND THESE LETTERS AND NUMBERS

LET'S GEEK OUT BRO

...the fad wore off, though. I don't know why I still have one in my signature. I never received anything.

I've never gotten anything. Then again, I haven't been overly active either.

Yes, I've received donations before. And if you had an address in your sig and you said something witty or just plain funny, you likely got 2 bitcents from me.

Not a cent. Haven't contributed much to the community either...just a little help getting folks nooblier than myself set up mining and the occasional witty banter.

I haven't received anything yet, not that I expected to get much, but it's part of the reason for the lack of updates on my Bitcoin site. I have a lot of things I want to do with it just little time/motivation. I think people are being pretty stingy since the BTC value has increased quite a lot lately.

I never do this shit, but this thread has inspired me to join the club.  Heck if I have any BTC left when the dust settles, maybe I'll send some around too.

I think that this whole idea would work better if tippers got credit for their tips. People like to patronize good writers, but they want to get credit for doing so.

Just put your firstbits address as your profile text, rather than your signature.  Then you don't waste valuable sig space with it.

I have not received any yet, but I have sent a few because people helped out with answers to my vid card questions, or to Jade for his awesome Widget.  If you haven't seen it, check it here http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=14307

I'm hoping that I can help someone someday and they will return the favor.  Even 0.01 BTC is enough to say "thanks for your help"

This is what we are trying to acheve with youtipit (http://www.youtipit.org (http://www.youtipit.org)). We are looking to create a community around tipping and find ways to reward people who tip (score, badges, content, promotion etc) If you have ideas on this let me know....

I think that they don't work, neither do most the TradeHill stuff, and so attack it with a 'why not' attitude.
