Title: Hey everybody
Post by: lishbtc on May 03, 2013, 04:48:54 AM
Hey all,

After years of watching by the sidelines being a bit risk-averse I've finally jumped in and am getting involved in cryptocurrencies...

Since I'm a newbie to the forums I need to get my five posts up, so just thought I'd say hello...

I'm in it more for the tech primarily.  I've built myself a mining rig in a custom open air case running 3x7950s - power is expensive here so the 7-series on 28nm is a must.  Pulling about 500kh/s (1.5Mh/s total) on scrypt mining at the moment.  Been up a couple of weeks, stable @ 75c with a floor fan for a little extra cooling help.  This is all stock 850/1250, haven't looked at pushing up the clocks yet, heat is a significant factor (I'm in Aus) & I don't want to have to run A/C in the room (extra running costs).

I'm also going to be looking at spinning up a pool in the future (for some of the altcoins), but I still have some work to do here in addressing things like building trust, DDoS mitigation and how to securely store funds for those miners that don't configure autopayouts etc.  More on that as/if it progresses.

Anyway, a simple hello :)

Hello!

I am also new here but have been watching since BTC $10 usd.

Rode the ride to the top...caught hell to the bottom.

We are in unprecidented times, but as long as you research, and hold true to your own beliefs, you will do fine.

Welcome to the crypto...

$1300 all up, but that included a motherboard, OCZ 1250W 80+ PSU & case bits.

I've been at the mining a couple of weeks, mainly LTC though I did point it at some FTC too.

This is the way to go. Nice job! Saved a ton of money I bet!  8)

There is also a sense of pride when bringing a system online that you have built yourself that you just can't get from store bought!

How does coinchoose calculate profitability?  I put in my numbers into an ltc and btc profitability calculator, and it was much better for btc.  Although, that was a little while ago.

I think it calculates based on difficulty.  The more people mining, the smaller chance of you getting coins as a miner.  Then it compares the value of those coins in the open market- ie: exchanges like bter or btc-e

Right now CNC coins and feathercoins are the most profitable to mine.  Instead of mining, I'm just buying coins on bter. I got scammed by wikileaksdude.  Bought from another that did go through, but there are a lot of scammers.  So I think I;ll stick to the exchanges.  my personal theory is that LTC and scrypt based coins will out-do bitcoin in appreciation

I was wondering what 1300AUD equated to in USD, so I looked it up, and it's basically 1:1.  That's strange to see.

Oh, and hell.  Sounds like a nice rig you've put together there.
