Title: BOOKMARK THIS SITE AS https://109.201.133.65, if domain disappears again, etc.
Post by: deepceleron on May 03, 2013, 10:10:28 AM
100 users and dropping, so note this IP, the DNS record was changed for bitcointalk.org away from the forum.

EDIT: site got it's domain back, no need to worry now.

Well, it works.
I simply added "109.201.133.65 bitcointalk.org" to my hostfile.

Can i say that this sucks?

Dear admin, if you want to change the website name to "bitcointa.lk" or "btct.lk", i own these domains and i made them point to your real server. I feel cool.

~sipa says (on the dev irc channel) that the registrant 'Martti Malmi' is ~sirius.

Wasn't ~sirius the guy who ran it when the zero-day cosbycoin hack happened and he handed it over to ~theymos who had somewhat better sys-admin skills?  I wonder if he decided he wanted it back?  Presumably it's worth some bucks.

Noted also that ~theymos did an AMA on reddit recently.  Almost as if he wanted to gain some support for retaining a userbase or something.

I wonder if the course relationships (seemingly) demonstrated by ~vess and ~magicaltux are rubbing off?

Domains get hacked often. The problem is if someone hacked the domain registrar account and transferred the domain away, it may be a bit of work to get it back. It's 7pm on a Friday in Japan, 3am in the US. It will take time through the Transfer Dispute Resolution Protocol if the receiving domain registrar doesn't immediately hand it back on the word of registrar #1.

Just convince theymos to use my domains... I offer them for free for 2 months at least and my goal is not to earn money, but rather to have a better community... Also, i would feel uber cool for the rest of the week.

if you hack into his registrar account, yes... Also, i don't know for how long, but there is a period of time (1 month i think) during the which the domain can't be transferred another time. Or maybe you can only transfer it back to the previous owner, i'm not sure.

I believe that this is just a misconfiguration. It'll be fixed soon.

You/Marti might want to consider adding http://bitcointalk.bit as an external domain. So that I can post a "Namecoin/Dot-Bit user not affected" meme.

bitcointalk.info seems to be available at the moment. That is one option for alternate domain-name...

It should be fixed now, though it may take you a while to see due to caching. Please remove the bitcointalk.org entry from your hosts file. It will cause you trouble if the IP is intentionally changed in the future.

So the domain is not under your control?

No. Sirius owns the domain. I've mentioned this before.
