On February 2nd, I believed we broke forum posting record in a single day: now 455 posts.

If the posting rate of 400ish continue, we'll break the montly forum record(currently December).

The activity of the forum bodes well for the bitcoin economy.

November finally broke forum posting record. Previously it was July with 4968 posts. Now, November is leading with 4985 posts and growing.

I thought this thread would be a complaint about the generaly repetative pattern of discussion around here...

Quote
Bitcoin is so cool

I know, so so cool...

I mean like, how unbeleivably cool is bitcoin man!

Bitcoin is like... the coolest, way cooler than that other money

I know, I've been counting how many ways bitcoin is cool and I just thought of like, five more ways than how many ways I thought it was cool before...

OMG OMG OMG! What if bitcoin is slightly less cool than I thought it was!

No no no don't worry about it, I worried about that too but then realised that actually it's so cool that that particular concern is not even an issue, and in fact this means bitcoin is even more coolerer than I had previously realised

Phew! That's a releif.  Bitcoin is so cool.

I know, it's so way cool.

Bitcoin is like... the coolest thing ever.

I know, the absolute kick-ass coolest.

and so on. 8)

*not that I'm saying bitcoin isn't cool mind, it's way cool, way way cool!

SMF 2.0 is going to be released pretty soon so I'm wondering if this forum will be upgraded. Also since this forum is pretty much critical to the bitcoin community (at least that's what I think) I wonder if there is some contingency plan in place in case it comes under attack/seizure by some government institution.

Are current stats and graphs visible somewhere? This is a great indicator for personal+technical interest in Bitcoin, maybe the best we have.

If someone posts up-to-date graphical forum stats somewhere, I'd probably follow them more closely than the exchange prices.

Yeah, I can't do it anymore... I have to ignore the greatest majority of posts, unfortunately...

Couldn't there be different RSS feeds, instead of only one with all messages?
It would be nicer if the RSS also showed the entire message and the message author username, that would make it faster to go through the messages I think.

Hmm well here you may be running into the limitations of SMF 1.1.13. I run several vBulletin based boards and all those things you described vBulletin can do, BUT (and this is a big one) vBulletin costs money. Also converting the forum over to vBulletin which is commercial software detracts from the open source character that no doubt bitcoin represents.

I dunno guys, maybe SMF 2.0 once it comes out will solve these limitations.

Also what may be a good idea is to create a "recycle bin" section and start moving stale threads there, and then after a certain amount of time has passed either lock the threads or delete them?

I hate it when forums do that. Why?  What's the point?

- It hurts search engine rankings since search engines will have dead links
- Some of those older posts may be helpful to more people down the road, and they aren't going to look through a "recycle bin" to try and find what they are looking for
- Read/Unread separates stale from new - why do you need anything more?
- A little necromancy never hurt anyone

As the last hurrah for May...The last day achieved a staggering total of new 2840 posts ending the month with 55331 posts compared to 24397. That mean the posting rate more than double in one month.

Awesome!

It's crazy.  It used to be that in my spare time, I could afford to read every thread in the forums I cared about, even the ones that were completely uninteresting to me.  Now, if I don't pick and choose the ones I read, I'll be awake and suddenly it'll be time for work!

Another smashing of the forum record: 6219 posts in one day.  At this rate the number of total posts ever made on the forum will double in a little over a month.

Has anybody ever seen anything like this????
