Title: so what happened to MegaUpload 2.0 and its revolution!
Post by: Herbert2020 on June 02, 2017, 06:20:28 AM
back in 2016 i remember the hype of Megaupload 2.0 and KimDotcom saying
- it will be huge and break the internet, blah blah, revolutionize file sharing
- bitcoin will be $2000 because of it (this happened irregardless ;))
- start buying now

and all of it was supposed to be released in early 2017 and now we are mid way through the year and i don't see anything anywhere.
so what happened? was it postponed again or did they give up?
i think there was also a crowd funding? run away maybe?

Kim Dotcom have a reputation, he can't simply run with funds. The release was postponed but but the development is still active. He already shared a video about it a couple of months ago: https://twitter.com/KimDotcom/status/848731692638453761
We are still unsure about how is he planning to use Bitcache/Bitcoin on Megaupload but It definitely looks promising and the crowd-sale went just fine on BnkOfFuture

Then he did a crowdfunding like campaign for his Megaupload 2.0?

I hope it doesn't end as Star Citizen, or even worse, as No Man's Sky

mega.nz is already the most innovative file host. Utilizing encryption very well for the benefit of its users at its fullest potential. I don't see why you have to make a connection between the service and BTC, its creator is known to be kinda crazy so don't pay too much attention.

The project wasn't funded more then It should be and that's definitely a good thing, they reached the minimum goal and they could work from that: https://bnktothefuture.com/pitches/megaupload-2-bitcache

He is no longer affiliated with them. (Mega.nz) and that's why he is creating Bitcache and Megaupload 2.0

I'm aware of Kim Dotcom's new project that's in the works but what I'm trying to say is that mega.nz has already gone mainstram and any new cloud storage services counting on cryptography are unlikely to compete IMO, so an impact on the price is far from reality.

To bad he ( mega.nz ) got hacked right away.
I will stay far away from everthing he make.

Since they are still in the development phase I think that they will be more focused in the security because it's like an exchange and the responsibility is very high and any hack that could happen is really dangerous, but the mega.nz hack should not demotivate us to use his upcoming service which I think will be awesome!

It's really been a while since we received an update from Kim. I think that he is working on his Bitcoin advancer though. I am pretty sure that he made a bunch of people money when he told people to purchase Bitcoin when it was 2016 since the price of it was low.

Yes good luck with it mate.
The NSA already got there backdoors wide open to collect all the data they need from you.
It's not a joke, i am really serious about it.

From the very beginning it was more than obvious that this was nothing more than an okay project 'lead' by a barking dog. That's what Kim is very good at, barking.

There are far more important things to focus on, like having SegWit activated this year, because that's really something that will have a major impact on the markets.

If MU 2.0 at some point manages to launch successfully, it will likely end up as OpenBazaar ~ high expectations at initial launch, big disappointment afterwards.

Well, that whole thing is really played out anyhow. NSA/CIA/MIB/etc who really cares since everything is wiretapped anyhow.

The people that lose in that game is the ones that cry out stating that they are being watched or he/she is being watched when we all know the truth already. We are just waiting.

The younger generation should have more technical skills if they actually read.

Most likely to be the case. Dont think if will launch will be at all, think is was just another big words from Kim. Anyway to much dust was in the project and to many expectation that it will be good project just words without any deeds, so if it comes to see light of the day I dont expect to see that much fuzz about. It will be like MU2 ok GL whit that or something similar.

so what's assuring the the megaupload 2.0 won't end up like the first one? I mean it's working on the same principal as the first one, right? So what's the deal then? Shouldn't it be taken down as soon as it's online?

Well there is a long time i dont see any news about those project, but that might be the nature, the promises were too much and the speculation about it remains high, one thing is sure the price has jumped a lot even without those project. Soo i really hope this project goes live, soo a big part of the world will know bitcoin.

To be honest I don’t see how this project could change anything, it will need to be revolutionary if he wants to take a part of the market from mega.nz, unless he has something up his sleeve that no one has ever seen then I do not think this is going to be successful at all no matter how much he tries to promote this project, the only good thing for him is that he was right about his prediction about bitcoin.

in theory what he is working on (based on the things that i have read so far on the project) will introduce bitcoin to a lot of people and opens up the way for file sharing community to add money to the whole thing. and that is a good thing both for bitcoin and for file sharers who want to monetize their contents.
how successful it will be in reality remains to be seen.

I think Megaupload 2.0 wont operate well without segwit. The way it was represented, it was almost like it was going to operate the same way as LN. A layer on top of BTC with the BTC blockchain used as the settlement layer.

No segwit, no Megaupload 2.0.

Why megaupload 2.0 when you have Siacoin (SC) as a better online file storage alternative? Jump on the SC hype now!

I would expect to see this by 2018 once segwit is enable and things have settled. Right now with the storm brewing about UASF and frankensegwit fights it's just not a good idea to get too involved in bitcoin ventures, let's see how it resolves and we'll see a lot of entrepreneurship action comming to bitcoin, but not until this is resolved.

Why don't you wait to see what he's actually proposing and be able to make an informed judgement before telling people whether it's a good idea or not?  Kim DotCom sounded pretty adamant that his idea was going to be a net positive for scaling.  Granted he's always been a bit of a loudmouth and it could prove to be baseless hype, but given his track record, I'm curious to see what he has come up with.

Also, read the last page, private beta to go ahead in August this year (https://twitter.com/KimDotcom/status/871755323849154561).

Great, since last year I am anticipating his project. I think it is with micropayments and it is timely that t is will be in demand from now on. I trust Kim for this project as I know he has the capacity to start and fund this project. Hope all lawsuits will be solved and ending soon to pursue this good project.

Yep it's funny that right when OP made this thread KimDotcom tweeted this:

It's like Kim heard OP and made the tweet lol.

In any case, he has my benefit of the doubt. I never said he is a scammer, and I know he is a loudmouth and a showman but he is also pretty smart and deliver a good product. Let's hope this is a success, but it would be ideal if we had segwit and lightning network for this type of stuff, but apparently he has developed his own native solution.... lets see.

Yes, it's clear that a "private" beta won't be ready for public prime time use. But at least there is some forward movement. I'm very interested to see the final product and I have a feeling it will be great.

I heard MegaUpload was secretly spied by NSA & FBI (for user activities and file sharing)

Mega.nz implemented good cryptography for users file sharing online but sooner or later, the NSA Cowboys would have to pay them a visit.

Why not we create our own file sharing system that may works on Blockchain network, something similar to OpenBazzar ???

Any ideas or possibility that this idea may work?

God knows what happened to that , i remember in September or November this was legit everywhere that kim is returning and this time he is going to introduce some sort of wallet which will increase the price till 2000$ blah blah. I actually believed him and because he had a name i remember my neighbours had invested in bitcoin because of this. Luckily they did forget about this otherwise they won't curse me for the rest of my life.

It would be something if this happen when he sad it will be, but i dont think so thins project is more and more sinking ship and will never see light of a day.
Perhaps im wrong but this is simple my point of view on the matter to many promises and to little was offered to see.

A really interesting project TBH, and it's released by Kim dot com who's really a controversial man, it'll either attracts crypto users and ordinary people. Though, pretty curious about the current progress of the project but it seems that the time has come, August will be coming and let us see the real benefits of practical use given by this project.
Really entertained by him since then LOL.

There is no guarantee about anything. I agree that Kim Dotcom is quite famous and he is very rich. But even then, there is a chance that he may run away with all the funds. Remember what happened to Mark Karpeles and his Mt Gox exchange? If you look at the older posts here, then you will find only praise for him by the experienced users. At that time, he was also having a "reputation".

This Monday, June 5, Kim Dotcom announced that the private beta version of Megaupload 2.0 and Bitcache will finally be released in August after having the release postponed in January this year.
Kim Dotcom is known for the success of its Megaupload cloud storage platform that was shut down by the US government. He promised the public, a successor to his popular service. In 2015 the entrepreneur announced that he would be using Bitcoin as an incentive layer within his next generation of Megaupload.
At the time Kim promised to officially launch Megaupload 2.0 and Bitcache until January 20 of this year. However, the release date was postponed without confirming a new date.

I think this will push price to 15.000$/BTC -20.000$/BTC at least in a near future. He said that Megaupload 2.0 will atract 50 million people just like the first Megaupload.

A  bit strange that the anticipated release seems to coincide with anticipated uncertainties in bitcoin that are going to fall around the same time frame... the UASF that is August 1?  Coincidence?  or planned?

It may boost the number of users of bitcoin and its price in the future but I don't think that much
BTW, I almost forgot this project since it isn't launched for many months, hope it will not get postponed again so we can see how much will be successful

You think this will be price. Dream on. Price wont be effected with this megaupload 2.0 launch (if it ever happens anyway). Bitcoin price is determined with other factor not launching with megaupload 2 and bitcache. Nothing from this will influence the price.
