Title: New to mining? Want new rig help? Thinking of starting mining? Ask here.

With the influx of new miners on the scene (including me!) it's seen this sub-forum filled with questions that even I've seen have been asked countless times before so god knows how the old timers feel!

So all questions about the planning/building of new rigs or any newbie questions you may have, just stick them in here and let's not clog up the mining forum with "is this ok for my first rig?" type questions.

Hi reids, thanks for doing this.

I want to start with 1 GPU at first and then probably upgrading. Should I get an Asus Dual Radeon RX 580 8GB OC for 290€ or an Asus GeForce GTX 1060 Dual OC 6GB for 314€

Also which of those would be better for a future coin?

Motherboard: http://mylifegadgets.com/ASRockH81PROBTC
GPU RX570 would be the best currently i think: http://mylifegadgets.com/RX570 but they are most likely out of stock. RX580 is good also  http://mylifegadgets.com/RX580 for Nvidia i suggest GTX1070, should be giving best ratio currently: http://mylifegadgets.com/GTX1070

I suggest RX570 most time.

I currently have a 775 socket motherboard and cpu. Just looking for the GPU.

GTX 1070 are almost 500eur. My budget is around 300eur

Try this http://mylifegadgets.com/RX570 or  http://mylifegadgets.com/RX580

Do I need to leave my screen plugged in all the time? Can I just unplug it once the rig is set up to mine
Then plug it back in when I need to check status?

The AMD drivers need a monitor plugged in the primary VGA to be able to read the cards temps and fans speed API. Most people use a monitor dummy plug and use team viewer to remote in.

Thanks for the info,

So that dummy plug had an hdmi plug... can it be either vga or hdmi? I'll be using the asrock h81 pro btc mobo
I'm guessing the plug goes in the mobo and not in the gpu display port?

Sorry for what is probably the most ridiculous question haha

You need to plug it in the card that's in the primary 16x VGA PCI-E slot for the AMD drivers to work. Most people setup the bios using the motherboard hdmi and then install the OS using the VGA hdmi.

I have a GTX1080 and I use it normally. Now I want to buy a RX460 for casual mining in the same PC (ethereum probably). Can I configure the miner software to mine only with the second AMD GPU? Thanks.

Do I have to power the USB risers that are plugged in X16 slot?
Thanks.

Thanks.

The RX series cards all draw ~50W from the PCI-e slot. Add this to the fact that there is no real reason NOT to power the riser, I suggest that you do.

I asked about x16 slot specifically.
I know that I have to power the risers that are plugged into x1 slot.

Which commands should I use to run the miner? Thanks.

500 euro? lol they can be found for way less, i can buy new one for 380 now, where do you live to pay that much for a 1070, i remember not even at the release they were that expensive, at least the not-reference one

Thanks or starting this thread. Hopefully with so many questions none will get missed! Apologies as I already started my newbie thread around the same time as this one was started.

I'm just looking for a mobo / cpu combo to support my planned 6 x GPU rig. Was thinking HS Rock H81 Pro BTC or Biostar TB-250-BTC but no idea about CPUs. I'm thinking of GTX CPUs but of course the AMD crew are saying that I should get those instead so might try both and hedge my mining bets a bit.

Also, does my internet speed make any difference to mining? Probably a dumb question! I need to know whether to run a LAN cable in or if WiFi will do.

Thanks

Honestly, if you mine some specific coins with GTX 1080 when you don't use it for gaming, I think it will be more profitable than using a RX460 at 24/7.

So, I recommend you buy GTX 1070 or RX 470/480 (570/580) and apply modded bios to get better earnings. Besides, with demand increasing for these gpus, mining with a single gpu will not give you much compared to people mining with at least 6 gpus.

Consider building a rig, but build your rig with safety concerns. Avoid children/pets at same room.

ETH mining-

Electricity Cost: 0,20€/kwH

Already ordered/got: Mobo + CPU + RAM + ethOS from GPUShack
+ EVGA Supernova 1200W (psu) + Kyerivs PCI-e risers + case

QuestionIn doubt between 6x GPU’s:

MSI RX 570 4GB Armor OC: 205€ [6x: 1230€]
MSI RX 570 4GB Gaming X: 222€ [6x: 1332€]
Sapphire Radeon RX 570 Nitro+ 8GB: 270€ [6x: 1620€]
MSI RX 580 4GB Gaming: 247€ [6x: 1482€]
MSI RX 580 8GB Armor OC: 271€ [6x: 1626€]

Expecting/Considering to continue on mining other altcoins after pos @ eth.

Any opinions regarding the best GPU in regard to possible MH/s vs Wattage consumption??

Thank you!

Where did you find those cards, I searched everywhere, there is no sign of RX570 or 580  :(

I'm new in mining and I'm trying to set up two "Palit 1070 dual" to mine DGB, what can I modify in Afterburner to increase hashrate from stock?

Thanks.

The RX series cards all draw ~50W from the PCI-e slot. Add this to the fact that there is no real reason NOT to power the riser, I suggest that you do.

Is the 50 watt power draw confirmed on the pcie slot? older cards draw 22-25 watts only.

I have a six card rig with five mixed RX 4XX/5XX cards and one 1080. I use a dual PSU setup with the main PSU that powers the motherboard also powers all the risers and a SSD. The second PSU is only for the VGA power inputs. The draw on the main PSU powering the risers is 365 W, so each riser uses ~50 W.

Hi guys,

Getting a RX580 soon. Going into this to learn the mining aspect, and some side money secondary.

Can I know is there:
1. A danger of rig oversupply with Proof of Stake, or even resulting to redundancy of rig.
2. Can we easily transfer to other altcoins or is RX580 primarily good for just ether.

Thanks!
