Title: There be gold in them hills!
Post by: Aristotle on June 19, 2011, 04:06:43 PM
Hello everybody on the Internets!  After 4 long days of mining, I've finally received my first Bitcoin  ;D

Now, the question is what to do with it.  Hmm. So many choices.  Strangely, olive oil seems popular.

Anyways, I'm just an excited new member of the Bitcoin community, and wanted to say hi to everybody.

Bitcoin now has both Aristotle and Plato:

This won't be anywhere near complete without Socrates!

Now, the question is what to do with it.

Is there someone on Facebook you'ld like to offer an award to for their contributions?
Or someone on FB to just share your wealth with?  Send them a tip with YouTipIt escrowed tips:

They will then get claim instructions and the tip is theirs!

The same type of thing is possible with Twitter:

If you are into gambling, Bitlotto has the best odds.  It is a monthly lottery, 99% payout, 100% transparent.  All wagers and payouts are visible in the blockchain. Each ticket costs 0.25 BTC.   (though some countries might have laws regarding you placing wagers online.)

As far as purchases of tangibles, that amount of bitcoins is just at that threshold where it won't buy much yet when ordering online because shipping and handling will generally chew up a good chunk of your purchase.  Though 1 BTC will just about get you a T-shirt now:

The variety of options is increasing daily though.  Some of the leading sites include:

Or, ... you could just hold onto it.  If bitcoin's history repeats itself, that bitcoin might buy a lot more a few months from now.

Lets look at an example of @paybitback in action: see the tips given to Al Jazeera via bitcoin.
First the Al Jazeera video (starting at 24:40):

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzJ2AXfXZA4

At 43:04 they talk about the tip jar.  The tweet is here:

Al Jazeera fails to send the right kind of tweet on the show (they just retweet the address specified by paybitback), but you can follow the bitcoin address that was set up for tips by paybitback at

I'm not sure why the transfers out happened in two phases and didn't go to the same place.  Hmmm.
