Title: (s) 19" Case /Server Case for GPU Rig
Post by: jadefalke on June 02, 2017, 02:13:20 PM
Hi i'm currently looking for a 19" Case /Server Case that can at least hold 4 GPU Card's ideally 6, does anyone came across such a Case?
If it is from Europe that would be a + since shipping such a heavy items from US or China might be a Problem.

You might want to check this out: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1921659

Not cheap but it's nice quality. I have a couple of them ordered, should be here in a couple of weeks.

How about Inter-Tech IPC 4U-4129-N (https://www.inter-tech.de/en/products/ipc/server-cases/4u-4129-n)? Costs around €115 + shipping in Germany. It should fit 6 cards easily.

It needs some small alterations though. You need to remove the 3.5" HDD bays and make a supportive rail for your cards. The center fans also need to be moved back a bit, maybe taken out completely if you have longer cards. The case comes with five 12x12x2,5 cm fans (very noisy, 88 cfm/48 dba) and two smaller ones.

The L4000 could be a good alternative (https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=rosewill+4u)

The L4000 won't work AT ALL for 4 x GPUs, unless you use single-slot stuff like the AMD WX series or the Galax "Katana" models.

It only has 7 "peripheral" slots, you need *2 each* for most current GPUs that are worth mining on.

For more than 4, you're looking at either VERY high priced cases, or custom "mining specific" cases that still tend to be high priced.

Yes custom cases are expensive such as

https://www.miningrigs.net/?product=gray-matter-gpu-server-case-v3-0-2

but they do work. I have one from them and with 6 rx 480 cards in them, the temps are 58C on average. Well built and if you must go server case this is the way to go. They are in the US so might not work.

Otherwise order the Rosewill RSV-L4500 4U and the adapter bracket for GPU from Rich at http://spotswoodcomputercases.com. He builds an adapter for the Rosewill case to mount 6 GPU up front. Upgrade the front fans to better one and then you are good to go.  He is also in the US so again might not work.

I beg to differ (https://i.imgur.com/lpruaKn.jpg) 6 is easy. 7 is doable. 8 is pushing it.

As I said, custom "mining specific" cases - using an adapter or modifying the case counts.

Where are you from, i have the 4U design with 3 vents and two PSU option. Similar to gray mater design.  We can ship it to Europe. I will post more details soon if anyone will be interested.

NOT 4U or even rack mountable.
Has to be modded to hold more than 3 cards.

Not even CLOSE to what the OP was asking for.

Build done yet? :)

I had difficulties finding a suitable mounting bracket for the GPUs. Solved it by going low-tech and bought 10 meters of perforated tape (http://www.clasohlson.com/de/Lochband/31-1715). :D Easy to bent into shape, and turns out those small holes are perfect for standard mounting screws.

looks great!

which direction are you going to push the air?  exiting near the gpus or exiting near the motherboard?
what fans are you using?

cheers!

Build your own. It's a big box with fans, and two mounting plates. Draw it up and go get it cut. Manufacturing sector is hurting everywhere, ppl want work for their lasers/waterjets. I've been waiting on cases to show up for LITERALLY months, finally just broke down and designed our own. Couldn't even order the one I wanted (way to long lead time). Figured open frame racks would be fast and ship quickly. WRONG.

If you don't mind doing some modifications yourself, just get any 4U case and modify it. The Rosewill version still needs heavy modification to work with 6+ cards. Any 4U server case will require modifications as well. Buy them cheap from Craigslist or 2nd hand electronics store and get to work!

I use the Inter-Tech IPC 4U-4129-N for all of my mining rigs.

Here I posted some pictures: https://intertech-mining.blogspot.com

I'm using previous model of this case, modding is pretty simple.

Nice to see that there are more users of this case :) You can control the heat way better than an open air rig.
