I am not being stupid, just asking if they are like a paper wallet, with access to an account that contains 1 coin or are they coins that were made to celebrate BTC and are not connected to a wallet or address?

Yep, these coins have a private key that corresponds to 1BTC. Peeling the holo will let you exposed the private key. Casascius coins, lealana and titan coins are just some of these types of coins that have BTC in.
