Since May 9 Verge xvg has been rising, up 106% today. Been rising for almost a month.
Reddcoin has been rising for awhile as well.

Can whales pump a coin up for about a month and then dump them?

I've been also wondering this thing...

You need patience to know what is the right time of a pump in a coin.
And this depends on the project, acceptance of the currency etc.

You need money to pump it first.

They're releasing their white paper within the next 48 hours, can that help legitimize them?

And a good stack of the coin that you are selling while you are pumping else it would make no sense.

Literally just seconds. There are thousands of bitcoins sitting in exchanges exactly for this purpose.

This.. I've seen a coin get pumped and dumped again in literally a matter of less than a minute. You can't even buy in sometimes it happens so quickly. Usually, right after this happens the price is tanked.

it depends on what coin you are talking about.

small altcoins:
meaning those that are at the bottom of the lists, with small volume and specifically low prices then the pump and dump will be short, they go up a lot when you look at the percentage growth (sometimes even >1000%) in a very short time and then they get dumped as fast too. this process can take place in one day for really small coins and up to a couple of weeks.

big coins:
those that are on top of the lists, with higher volume and higher prices. these coins attract a lot of attention just for being on top and there are always a lot of newbies who will buy these no matter what the price is, even if it is getting dumped hard! and because of that the process of pump and dump will take a while. the pump will be faster though because of FOMO but the dump is always slow since the whales dump slowly and as i said there are a lot of newbies who buy even on the way down and lose money.

It sure could be the way they do it however most of the times it's random. Or at least random to us.

We don't know what the whales do. What they do is entirely at their discretion, we cannot change anything that they do either. You could try predict their next moves, but make sure you don't get too caught up in the hype. Sometimes you get sucked in and lose all your money.

I think it only takes seconds for them to pump a coin. I haven't experienced so far it had reach to about a month of just pumping a certain coin.

This is good information, I'm learning more and more everyday about Altcoins and this topic too. Was also curious how whales would do it. Might be trading altcoins later this week after I receive my pay.

Right. The whales may spend months to lurk before pumping.

This guy says the avg hold time is 3-9 months..
