Title: My first Day trade....or 2 day trade
Post by: theface on May 04, 2013, 05:22:07 PM
Completely by accident.  I needed some Fiat to pay my rent (My landlord is clown and won't accept BTC)....I sold earlier in the week at $115....then bought back yesterday at $93....I just couldn't resist.  Rent can wait.

I hope you didn't wire directly to Gox.....took 12 days for me last time, and that was couple months ago...

Nice trade, always good to make profit. How many did you sell.

50 coins....nothing crazy.  Of course, I wish I'd sold every coin I owned, and re-bought, but don't we all.

I've decided to keep 1000 coins for the long haul.  Any that I get over that, I'll probably convert to fiat, or try to use for products/services.

Lol congratz, a nice $1000:). 1000 BTC is a large amount to own though, will you sell some later to pay your landlord?

Ha!..God I hope so.  I got most of my coins last November.  I had 2000 at one point....I can't even imagine getting back to 2000 now.  You can get to 1000!!!  one BTC at a time!

I dipped under 1000 to make the trade, went to 950, and I couldn't take it.....I felt like something was missing...I had to get them back.  I got lucky, simple as that.

I get paid next week, so I'll just pay the $35 late fee.  My landlord is decently cool,  despite his lack of BTC acceptance

I dont understand all the math here? one guy is saying nice $1000 profit and another post says you sold at $115 and rebought at $93. How did you make a profit if you sold 50 coins at $113? Also 50 coins is $5000usd whose rent is that much?

50*($115-$93) = $1100 profit

no he said he sold 50 coins last week at $113. so that money was in fiat. he was going to use that for rent. but then he said screw rent I can buy those same 50 coins back NOW at $93. So in no profit has been realized until he sells the 50 that he just bought at $93. When he sold at $113 he could have bought at $150, so that would have been a loss. is this correct to assume?

I've been daytrading on btc-e for a few weeks. If you can understand the trends, you can make good profit.

how much trading capital do you use? what do you look for? If I got into trading I would jump in when a big block goes through.

Not many people can get to 1000. At most 21'000... :)

You are correct (well observed :), however OP did say he got most of his coins last November, so they where much cheaper.

Awesome, I am glad Bitoin is working out for you. I am new to it all really and have around 5 coins at the moment so day trading wouldn't really be good for me. I have cheked out MtGox.com and other sites like that but they don't seem very good for United Kingdom residents due to the cost to cash out and put money in so I am going to avoid that and just buy from local venors for the moment.

Regards,

Martin.

Why? It doesn't matter what order he made the trades in. He's left with the same number of coins + 1100 extra USD. That's profit on those two trades taken together.

The point he's making is: If OP bought his 1000BTC for $150 each, then did this buy/sell business, he wouldn't be in profit, he would be mitigating his losses. That's just how I interpreted it (the post I made earlier shows how this was not the case, however the theory is still valid)

I understood his point, I just don't understood why he/you for some reason think it's natural to include previous trades here. If you want to play that game, why not include every trade he's done since birth while you're at it, to figure out if he's made a total "profit" or not? :)

I see your point, but I'm not trying to calculate my profit with this post.  I've just seen my BTC go down slowly since last February, and I decided that I'm not comfortable having less than 1000...I just couldn't do it.  Piss poor planning on my rent situation...
