Title: Mining BURST question
Post by: swogerino on June 06, 2017, 01:25:17 PM
I have seen in Ebay that some chinese persons are selling 2 TB usb 2.0 low speed but the amount is correct from what they say. Can I mine BURST in these kind of USB-s ? I hope I can as I can buy about 10 of these for 50-60 dollars and giving me total capacity of 20 TB.

can you link me this offer it's very tempting? thanks, i guess anyway that it should work, you just need the capacity with burst not the speed, but i remember that 3.0 is better for burst, still you need somethign to plot all these quickly, like a gpu

No need for link , just google in ebay "usb 2tb" and a lot of chinese usb-s will show up. So how do I need a gpu, what if my gpu is mining ethereum for example how it can be done ?

USB3 is definitely better but think it would likely work ok with USB2. You need to plot (think of it as preparing) the drive before you can mine on it, a normal cpu/gpu can do this - but the better the cpu/gpu the quicker the drive plots = the quicker you can start to mine on it.

i dont really believe this is possible for such a price and its very likely fake (ie it will show 2TB but if you actually want to use 2tb it will throw errors at some point)

that being said i have ordered one and im intending to write the full 2tb. As the seller accepts paypal i dont worry about wasted 17€.

Yes you maybe right about capacity but I don't mind spending about  15 dollars to buy 2 of them for testing purposes. If they are not reliable then I need to stick to real hard disk, internals but I know they cost a lot. I have also just ordered 2 usbs and if they have problems plotting and mining, I am keeping them as storage devices. Nothing to lose here.

That is good to know you gonna get something going that low. But make sure to check the legitimacy of the product as it is being sold at low cost. It is not coincidence that you can get 20 TB worth USB at such cost.  Im not doubting but I'm just being precautionary as there are lots of scammers out there. So you can be always sure on your side not to loose money on something like this.
