Title: I'll give you Bitcoins for Ripples [1 Bitcoin per 7,500 Ripples]
Post by: Chuck on May 05, 2013, 08:01:36 AM
If you made your forum account before February 19th, you can get free ripples here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=145506.0

--

Hello! I'd like to buy your Ripples.

I'll give you 1 BTC per 7,500 XRP.

From what I can see, that is the best rate posted here. If you see a better offer, I'll try to match it.

I can also send you other alt-coins such as Litecoin.

I ask that you send first (we can do it in small chunks if you'd like). If you're a non-newbie, I'd be willing to send first. Or, we can use escrow.

I've been a bitcointalk.org member since late 2010.

Send me a PM if interested,
Thanks!

I've been selling on BitMit for around 7,000 XRP to the BTC. My inventory is low right now, but I'll have new offers up within an hour or so.

I'll run a special, 30K XRP for 5 BTC.

First four people to claim it, get it.

These are not auctions. These are sales. Please pay promptly and I will do the same with the XRP. Positive feedback is appreciated and will be returned.

Sorry, that is way too much. I would give you 1 BTC for 10K ripples, if you sent first.

Bitmit is an option for some people, but you have to do the work of creating an auction, and compete against 100's of other auctions, bitmit takes a small fee, etc.  You might get a better price but certainly not 2btc:10k ratio (unless I'm missing something!!)

They will still prefer to do deal on bitmit instead of doing exchange in newbie section with a new member and sending money first. Risk of loosing money.

You should accept Escrow and  gain some trust here.

May I ask how you all are valuing XRP? How can any of you be confident of what is a "good deal" at this stage of the currency's development? Only a fraction of the available XRP are on the market now. What will happen when millions or billions more are given away for free?

I'm asking purely out of curiosity. I am new to the world of bitcoin etc.

The point of the giveaways it to gain users. Unless those giveaways are done very badly, they should incrase demand at least as much as they increase suplpy. Opencoin controls the giveawys. Opencoin wants the price of XRP to be high. You can connect the dots.

According to the ticker on the ripple client for Bitstamp, 1 BTC are currently trading for as below:

Code:
Bid = 7,698.99 Ask = 7,900.00 Spread = 201.00 Last price = 7,699.00

As I understand it, you have to link to an exchange (and have an account with the exchange), you can't do it only on ripple.com

Yes, if you use the Bitstamp exchange linked with ripple.com, you can sell your ripples for more then I am offering right now. I think the rate of 7K/1btc is way too much, I can't beat that.

Not yet. But there will be. Just wait and be ready. You need about 300+\epsilon to start. Thats not too expensive if you are curious. Maybe 5 dollars.

I'm confused, who's thread is this? Is Chuck working with crypTrade or are they separate people and services? If not working together, it's rather rude to go into someone's thread and post a bunch of offers, links to your auctions and then flat out snipe people from within the thread.

There is poetic justice in getting scammed by poaching customers from someone elses thread!

If it's the same team tag teaming the ripple sphere, never mind me I had a rough life

No, I don't know him.  He was selling ripples, I'm buying them.

I should probably make a new moderated thread so people don't post stuff like that in my stuff.

Sorry for the confusion. Yeah, I'm selling XRP and Chuck is buying. Someone else mentioned in the thread that they were selling XRP and I didn't see any public response from Chuck. So I offered in PM to buy it. I then just wanted to warn people in case it was a scam so they wouldn't get multiple people trying to accept the same offer. Apparently, Chuck was already talking to him in PM, which I had no idea.

I wasn't trying to thread jack.

Chuck did say PM sent 10 minutes after it was posted but in the fast paced world of bitcoins and ripples that might as well be Tent years!
You're right. If I had noticed that, I wouldn't have bothered. If he was legitimate, Chuck would have already gotten the deal. If not, well, obviously I wouldn't want it. I'm not sure why I didn't notice.

In any event, tyler26 returned the Bitcoin and I am going to remove the scam accusation. (If you guys who quoted me making the accusation could please either delete or modify it in your quotes, I'd appreciate that. The Bitcoin was returned. I have not been scammed.)

If you want to buy/sell BTC for ripples just open a ripple wallet and trade within the wallet. I tried this and it actually works pretty well, and you can get a much better deal if you are buying ripple than what Bitstamp is selling them for.

Opencoin controls the giveawys.

...pretty sure OpenCoin does not control bitstamp.

How can I get some ripple?

I would go to Ripple.com and sign up for their email list, make an account on their forum, and just keep an eye out in general. They plan on doing a bunch of giveaways in the future.

I can't get any ripples since I'm new.  Is this the only way to get ripples?

I would still post to their giveaway thread, just in case. Also sign up for their email list. They (Ripple company) are supposed to do a giveaway again sometime this month.

Ripple is a joke, dont waste your time:
ripplescam.org

I saw this site a while ago, very interesting.

the thing that sticks out most re. Ripple is that they have not released their source code yet, even though they claim to be open source.

the thing that sticks out most re. Ripple is that they have not released their source code yet, even though they claim to be open source.
The client source is open. The server source code is not open yet.

As soon as the server source code is open, it will be very difficult to make changes in Ripple's behavior. Had we released the source code to the public at the same time we made access available to the public, as Bitcoin did, there would have been no chance for public participation in the early design.

Bitcoin was presented to the community as a done deal, take it or leave it. If people had reasons to disagree with the block reward schedule, for example, they had no chance to discuss it or make their case. That was set in stone by the early developers.

We can still make those kinds of changes in Ripple. And we are still discussing structural changes based on community input that will make the system better. See, for example:
https://github.com/rippleFoundation/ripple-client/issues/748
Here's a case where members of the community disagreed with a part of Ripple's design and because Opencoin still runs the majority of validators, it can still be improved. Had we followed Bitcoin's model, we likely would have been stuck with it.

Fortunately, I don't think there's anything in Bitcoin that's bad that we're stuck with. I'm not sure if that's due to luck or just the designer's genius. But we didn't have that kind of confidence, and it turns out that it was probably a good thing that we didn't. There are at least three major things that we're working to improve based on community feedback.

Ripple is closed source and centralized. The primary of bitcoin is that it's decentralized and open source.. Think for yourself..

There are 100,000,000,000 XRP in existence. Do the math.

False and false.  Please learn what you're talking about before you spout out about something

Maybe ask the creators of ripple, as they intend to keep 25 billion of those coins to themselves.

Ripple is the future, and that's not a troll  8)

Bored to wait for 1 or 2 hours before a confirmation when I buy something with bitcoins.
I prefer to wait for 10 seconds. But that's just my point of view.

Up the rates (as in less ripples for 1 bitcoin), you're losing customers.
