Hi,

I know you guys get asked this all the time. I'm new to cryptocurrencies, trading and I've never been involved in any sort of forums before either, so i'm sorry if I've posted in the wrong way.

I'm looking into the happenings at the moment and trying hard to catch up. It is a lot to digest and I think there are important dates coming up that I need to be wary of. It seems July/August are to be big dates for Bitcoin and I am trying to understand if i have already missed the boat and if the risk/reward is too high/low.

Am I right in thinking that the value of bitcoin could swing either way with a 50/50 chance after this date?

Is the current general thought for investors that after August, there might be a large dip, but it should recover to eventually get our 500k valuation (in a long way off), or if it goes south would it be dead in the water?

With the current spikes and new all time highs in the price, would I be buying in too high at this point?

Would i be better to buy as much as I can before these dates or would it be safer to wait until after and then buy in?

Bitcoin is considered a safe haven for investors and you should quickly buy lots of it right now while it's still in $2700 something in it's all time high, when it surpass the $3000 barrier it would be probably to late cause it might be to expensive for you as an investors or maybe not. Dont invest your future in some altcoin that is currently hype cause they're only good in short term profit and ETH is centralized, buggy, that is owned by bankers and only has little support from the commumity while bitcoin is widely used in terms of goods and services, decentralized, anonymous and it is widely adopted in many countries, use as payment method in both local businesses and online.

Please you can try to buy both of the coins. Rmember etehreum will migrate to the pos system in the future and that makes the price will be doubled and bitcoin with the scaling agreement and will be good for you to fill your portfolio with both.

try looking around for a little and see other people asking the same question each time price rises. the answer for bitcoin is always the same, it is a good investment but it is not risk free.

as for Aug 1 we don't know what will happen, and large dip is not "general thought" of investors, you have been reading some FUD.

as for your main question look at this way:
bitcoin:
has real demand.
people invest in it as a store of value, as a strong technology that has been working perfectly without any problems for 8 years.
it has a solid developing team. the code is reviewed and it is bug free.
hackers have been trying to hack bitcoin, attack the network, ... for 8 freaking years and they have never succeeded.
people are also buying bitcoin because it has real world usage as a currency. you can buy almost anything with it these days. there are thousands of merchants accepting it. there are 200,000 merchants in Japan alone.
countries have either embraced bitcoin as a legal method of payment or are thinking about it

ethereum
it is centralized, don't expect any change that community wants but expect any change that the developers feel like it. hint: DAO roll back, Difficulty bomb, Change of POW,...
has no real demand apart from speculators, idiots who are forced to buy ETH tokens to invest that in ICOs
it has not been around for long, it has lots of bugs and exploits.
it has a terrible scaling issue which has led to $1 transaction fees even with fast (15 second) blocks and no backlog like bitcoin has!!!
running a full node is extremely hard and much more expensive than bitcoin and that leads to more centralization and lack of nodes as time goes by.
it is not even a currency! it is a platform for smart contracts and it is not doing it well enough a better platform can easily replace it. some even believe RSK will do that soon.

this time is not the right time to buy bitcoin because bitcoin price right now is too much higher than i expected this past few months i thought bitcoin could reach this amount when this year ending but im wrong so just wait till the drop of price of bitcoin before buying for you to have a good back to your money what you invested :)

August 1 would be the big day for the split to happen but we can never know if it would surely be put to be active because it is surely a great risk for bitcoin, I may be wrong but I think I am the only 1 against it or not, but I am surely not into it because it might give us a bit of a problem in the future that we might regret but let them do it because they have the knowledge in knowing if this is gonna be great for the community or not,

and for OP I really thing if you really want to invest in bitcoin just buy as many as you want or earn as much as you can because the big jump in price is nearing this July we can truly see if bitcoin's gonna make a big difference for all of us, so do your best in doing both if you can.

and I think even if ETH has lots of glitch and has a terrible scaling, how did it many a way on the top and has been said to be the next and can be number 1 just like bitcoin, I think they are working very agile in getting to knock bitcoin to the number 1 spot but let's just see because I myself likes to surely trade in both bitcoin and ETH.

I think it is good time to buy ETC because it has same features like ETH and when ETH will go POS miners will shift towards ETC mining that can rise its price dramatically. On the other hand, bitcoin is always good for long term holding.

in terms of fees, i will prefer both, because the fee of sending bitcoin is being almost the same in US as ethereum. since altcoins are less popular, their fee are less than what bitcoin will be and normally faster in transaction.

And nothing is too late because we are still in the year of recognition of cryptocurrency. Blockchain is now becoming famous in other countries and Eth is also having a fast and high increase rate and its not really necessary to buy a whole of it. We can just try to buy little amount of it then we can trade it to higher. Good time now to buy while many other people are still not aware of the existence and how the profit works in btc and eth.

In my right now the price of ethereum seems affordable, so one could make an investment into ethereum and later can make change to the bitcoin for long term investment when the price pumping of ethereum takes place. Bitcoin is very big that it's not that easy to be afforded by an common man who lives with a job.

This is absolute rubbish - Bitcoin is not considered a safe haven investment ,  it is at best a speculative gamble on a potential system of value transfer , and it is failing at this at the moment. Other crypto can do the same thing at much less expense and much faster. The best that can be said of BTC is that it is the safest crypto against a new entrant mustering a 51% attack, however given mining centralisation it is by no means safe from an incumbent 51% attack or being held hostage. BTC needs to evolve or like anything else it will be rendered extinct by another organism more fit for purpose. If you are relying on store of value as your investment criteria you need to seriously examine what make s something a store of value, and the volatility of BTC eliminates it straight away

All the time is the right time to buy bitcoins and ethereum it is all Depends on your set target profit  for both of coins since if you are not greedy enought to wait for big jumps on it provably you can earn more money on those two coins of your selection, You could monitor its stats and movements and  you can actually tell on when to do trades on it on the right time just join its flow so that you could earn from doing some day tradings on it.

I can say that bitcoin is best to hold it due to high price movement in the chart. Etherum's value is stands around the where bitcoin stands on 2015 now. ETH is best for the people who is earn little fund now. You can buy the ETH and hold it for some years.

Ethereum is growing like crazy in this last month the last time I saw it was just 6 billion dollars behind bitcoin in market capitalization and if things keep like that then it may surpass it for a little while but to be honest I think that is a bubble and soon enough the price will need to correct itself so you need to be careful about the way you invest your money at the moment.

Yes, we are still recovering from a dip. Remember the last dip was to $1800. We are seeing higher lows, so long trend still is bullish for Bitcoin.

Don't know about Ethereum. Looks like a ticking bomb for me in the short term, I don't know enough of the tech to have opinion about the long run

I see the trend in general-money are running from fiat and assets into cryptocurrency territory
volatility is the key factor here and thing will not change in the near future
ETH looks like a less stable,less versatile currency than bitcoin and while it is a good smart contract platform and sees the highest % growth
its future is very unsure,while bitcoin's future will be determined after the 1 of August
if everything goes smooth we will see crazy price jumps,both ways

Etherium is making a pump this past days. The last time i saw eth at 0.1btc = 1 eth but now it goes to 0.14btc = 1 eth. Looks like many people are starting investing a lot on etherium. Maybe it's not late to invest in eth now.

Eth price increasingly rises day. It makes me also this buy some eth. Well, lately, there is so much good information about bitcoin and eth, so if i want to buy it then maybe right time, because i feel that eth price probably will come to the price of 0.2 btc

It's probably a good idea to have a diversified portfolio of both.

Bitcoin and ethereum generally go in opposite directions. So if bitcoin crashes, ethereum rises because it is seen as an alternative. And when ethereum crashes, bitcoin generally goes up in price. There could be times when this isn't true though.

Bitcoin dominance is at an all time low - i think it's a good time to buy in bitcoin in particular. But buying crypto and dumping your fiat in general is a good idea, as long as you pick the right altcoins.

Ethereum is surely not a good time buy and you should probably wait for the price to drop till at least 0.11 or maybe 0.12  btc.
While talking about bitcoin it is surely a good time to purchase bitcoin all you have to do is place a sell order and not manually sell it as most probably you will miss the correct time

I am only looking to put in about £200 worth into crypto at the moment as I want to learn more about it. Is this too little to buy bitcoin with? Should you only buy bitcoin if you can afford at least 1 btc?

That is a real possibility as i never thought like that,if ETH goes to POS then all the miners will be flocking into ETC but for the price to go up you need to have good investors or good projects with ETC and since there are no new projects in plain sight it is hard to predict whether the price would rise.

I have been thinking about this for quite some time, bitcoin seems to be cheap when you take into account the very low market dominance this tells me the altcoins especially ethereum are over valued and a correction may follow, but with  the decision about activation segwit or not this scenario may last longer than we thought since months of great instability will come.

Well obviously at the time OP posted it was a bad time to buy since its dumped since. I think now is good though because both btc and eth are overdue for a pump in the short term and their medium and long term prospects are also great.

You buy when price seems to have find a bottom on a certain level of a downwards move. Traders call this BTFD "buy the f***ing dip".Or you buy constantly a bit of BTC no matter what the price is, if you believe it will go up in the long run due to it's fundamentals. These are just two possibilities when/why you can/should buy. There are a few more and many people have different reasons to do so, depending on their investment/trading strategy.

I cannot guarantee the exact price of £200 worth into cryptocurrency but in the current values of BTC right now, that's less than 1 BTC. And no its your choice to buy whether you can or you cannot afford at least 1 BTC.

well its a good timing if OP bought some while the value is falling and wait for the value rise back and make a good profits
its just a matter of timing and project like this usually have some support and pumped will happen anytime soon.

I agree with you . The right timing can provide satisfactory results. Although a coin has a very good pump, but when we make decisions in timings that are not right then the result will not satisfy.

Definitely, I think it is the right time to buy some bitcoins since its price was not that big. It is better to buy bitcoin if it has small value because you could buy more and when the time that has a chance to pump you will get a higher profit. My advice is to hold it for a long time for a better result and you will not regret it.

Like I always maintained that every time is the right time to buy so far you can afford it no matter the amount because there will always be room for improvement even for established fiat currencies world wide, there is still foreign exchange market where these currencies are being traded against each other and profits are being made without any form of end in sight compared to bitcoin which is an evolving currency and penetration is still in high gear to the maximum.

some people says August is the important month for bitcoin and honestly i don't really understand what they really means but ETH and Bitcoin still good to buy currently but if you aren't sure about them you could do short term trading and takes advantages from the movement price daily untill see the next situations regarding them

Very often beginners make the wrong decision about buying coins and then lose money. They need just a little patience to make their investments bring them profit. But many can not wait, are disappointed in the cryptocurrency and leave with the bitcoin community
But I'm sure that it's not too late to buy a cryptocurrency

For Ethereum, I would still go all in but in the case of bitcoin, I would want to be more cautious because of the erratic behaviour of prices in this last few days call for caution and the uncertainty surrounding whether SegWit or not. But for ETH, price might not be stable but no major decision to be taken at least in the short term.

I don't follow all the altcoins so I'm sure if you should buy ethereum but speaking of bitcoin it surely is a good time to purchase and save it for the future. The problem that the price is low for a week is investors are scared price may drop more but seeing the charts it looks like a clear growth to me

The answer to this question is all the same, Bitcoin in whole is a good investment option, but like most investments it doesn't come risk free.
 
At this point I would have thought that the price of bitcoin would be much lower and I probably would have bought some if the price was lower, but since the price is pretty high right now, I would expect a drop in price sometime soon, maybe in around the next 3 months I wouldn’t be surprised.
 
Try waiting for a bit of time for when bitcoin does eventually drop and then invest and sell that later when bitcoin recovers again. By my estimations, I think that bitcoin should rise above 3k at the end of this year. Looks like a good time to invest into bitcoin when it drops eventually. I still think that bitcoin will recover from any losses. Good Luck!

Me either and I will always go with bitcoin. But if you want to invest to ETH, it's also a good decision as it did really grow a lot for this year. The same thing you will do with ETH, you'll hold and sell. Both markets are volatile but frankly speaking bitcoin is more promising to my eyes so I will not going to leave bitcoin and will buy when at dip.

At any time in my opinion is the right time to buy bitcoin / etherum. This is a lucrative investment of course. Because all digital currencies are projected to have an increasing price. So if we can sell it at a high price later then it is a chance to make a profit. Bitcoin and etherum are 2 digital currencies that have the best market today.

Right now, the prices are down because of the Bitcoin scaling issue. There is a good chance that this issue will be resolved in the near future. If that happens, then the prices will increase steeply. So keeping this in mind, I would advice you to purchase as many Bitcoins as possible. And right now, I can't make any predictions about Ethereum.

That is surely the top 1 choice of majority here but if we could split up our balances and do some short trades on the other half surely staking will be more worthfull since we can generate more profits by this since as you can track its movement surely you can see the flashy movement of bitcoins right on. And ETH is better for long term holding since this one is promising coin and surely it will hit up hard in future.

The risk reward is about the right amount for the current pinpoint in time depending on what happens to Bitcoin, the best time to buy it was in 2011 the next best time is today and hope for the best in the long run.
You are correct in that the odds are 50/50 after that date but only to a certain point past that date as long as it stabilizes new users will bring more value to the system and the price will easily exceed the current prices so the point is your time horizon if you want to hedge ETH is a reasonable fund to keep value in.
I would say to buy some now and some later since it doesn't hurt to hedge best of luck.

Right now is not the right time if you are only looking for short term profits, if you are looking to be in bitcoin for the long term, then almost any moment is good enough to invest, buy some bitcoin and years later the value of your investment would have multiplied, it is that simple, just forget about the daily variations in price that way you will not be tempted to sell at every dip of the price.

Is it the demand for bitcoin as big  in Russia as it is in Japan? Because I have my doubts about it, if you are right then we will see the price skyrocket again but I think there is going to be a slowing effect for the UASF that is coming, so I think we may see the price move around the same range for quite some time before investors get confident on bitcoin once again.

If you wait to buy bitcoin,then you may have to buy at higher price as bitcoin would soon cross $3000.It could even cross $3500 by this year end.Main reasons for this would be japan legalizing bitcoin followed by India,a very big populated country.Better buy it now itself to avoid regret.

As stated it's true that the price increase will happen in the coming months towards a much bigger value than the current. This is just because of several countries showing interest on bitcoin after the adoption of Japan. I believe it is a good time to buy Bitcoin but no Ethereum.  The upcoming update of bitcoin may possibly boast its price since the long scaling problem of bitcoin might probably get resolved.  About Ethereum, I felt that ETH is in a bubble atm that is about to burst.  I do not know if it will sustain its price for a long time.  ICO inside the ETH platfor is currently trending but until when?  If the trend shift, definitely this ICO within ETH platform will cater no interest anymore.

It is always a good time to buy bitcoin if you are a believer in it, a believer that its price will skyrocket in the longer distant future and that you will hold your bitcoins until that time arrives. It is never a good time to buy Ethereum as it is just another altcoin which was heavily pumped and now is being dumped little by little. Also when it will switch from proof of work to proof of stake after few months I think its value will decrease even more.

As said it's the right time to earn Bitcoin and ethereum, but with the one who is not aware of earning options could buy it and hold for the better. Because I don't think people will get a lower price than this, so to buy and hold as the price is increasing often.

well for long term holders and believers its still the best time to buy btc not sure with eth since i really don't have much knowledge regarding to that
coin but with btc value will keep on rising there's no way of falling unless big issue happen and cause destruction.

And to me that is very good time to buy more bitcoin because I know its price is going to high, but I think the time will come that I cannot buy bitcoin because its price is day to day increasing to rise and in future I have problem to buy bitcoin due to high price so that time is very good and right to buy bitcoin with low price and then sell in future with high price.

At the moment almost every crypto is going down and to me I think this is the beginning of a general dump so I think if you are not invested in crypto yet, the right thing to do is to wait some time and see if you can get a better price when you buy bitcoin, I think the closest we get to august first the more instability we are going to see in the market.

Price is really good right now to buy bitcoins as it has gone down drastically in compare to last week so this can be the best opportunity to buy more bitcoins and wait for the price to go higher as price will surely be higher by the end of the year.

If the price of bitcoin is down because of scaling issue what about Ethereum and the rest of the other alt coins,all the markets are down,so what that means is that scaling is not the real issue and the market was on a bull run for a while and now people are booking their profits.Wait for some time to understand how the market is going and then take the decision to purchase the coins.

I could advice you with confidence to invest in bitcoins.It has given huge returns to its investors.Its no more manipulated.So we could say that it reflects its original value.It has more chance of price increase.But ethereum is mostly a pump and dump coin.If you could predict correctly when it is pumped and when dump would start,then you could make some money.It does not have any future.

Yes its really a good time to buy bitcoin. Because bitcoin price will rise up very soon. People are now awareness of bitcoin and countries are also now trading and thinking to accept the bitcoin with this I think the price will be doubled than the current price. So buying bitcoin is much more better way to make a huge profit through bitcoin.

With bitcoin the profiting is something assured, because even after price falls it will increase in a short or long. What we need to have is patience to grab the profit. With ethereum everything is new, so it can be a bubble or a real growth but the profiting is possible which is bit risky than bitcoin. Based on this it's good for users to make decisions on their own analysing their requirements.

Things have gotten more stable but it seems the crypto currencies as whole have lost more than 15 billion dollars with the latest dump which is a lot, the dump has affected altcoins a lot more than bitcoin for the simple reasons the altcoins were the ones that pumped the hardest in the previous six months, so this was a correction that was needed.

I think the price of bitcoin is good at a moment to purchase some more as price is expected to rise in coming months and if it achieves some higher level then we would be in great position to sell them at higher price so I will go with buying bitcoins right now to get better profits in future.

If you can miss your money for a few years both coins seems to be a good investment (that's trading advice but my personal opinion). However I would diversify, putting half in bitcoin and half in altcoins. Ethereum proofed to be a centralized coin (DAO Hack) so I would look into other altcoins honestly.

 I am agree with you that is right time to buy more bitcoin because now its price is low and if you buy bitcoin cannot panic to see when its price is low and then sell that is bad, because I seen those who were panic the bitcoin low price and sell it nowadays he feel very regrets. So hold for long time and then till its price will not reach to more raise. I hope you gain more profit in future.

people who will invest for long term goal will gain good profits in returned as the fluctuation will continue and history will just repeat itself
so better to buy and store little by little and when the time comes big earnings will follow.

although bitcoin investment will be more good for long term, but still i think that those people who are worring about the invest in btcoin or n one place then he should invest money in different places so that his money should not remain in risk.

If i was you i would buy both from the scalling prise fro the BTC and ethereum for long term save after its prise get higher

If my plans are for the long term then purchasing the coin at this price is a good bargain ,if not i do not think this is the best time to enter Ethereum but i am expecting a price rally in bitcoin in a couple of months if not from November ,so i will be looking to enter at a good bargain price after the scaling and forking drama unfolds.

It really depends on what it is you want though, Ethereum has been experiencing some market turmoil and there are more profits to be found in the short-term dips that occur within Ethereum than there are with Bitcoin. It's definitely a better idea to invest in Bitcoin if you want to look for longer-term profits, and if that's not your goal than anything that is cheap and buy-able is almost 100% of the time a better option than anything expensive. Hell, you might as well just get invested with pump n dumps if your goal is to get capital gains in a very short period of time.

Both them had the same future that will be useful from the future well bitcoin is really good for now and maybe in the next month bitcoin will be decrease as the manu speculation but im not saying it will become true however we want can assured are income buy buying another coins like what you say ethereum.

If you talk to experts or people who have been dealing with bitcoin for a while now, the simple answer they will give you for this question is “any time is a good time to buy bitcoins”. Bitcoins are more profitable than any other online currencies out there and price of bitcoin rises day by day.

People start from a small amount like 0.0001 bitcoins at one point and then starting from that make millions. Bitcoin is reaching unbelievable heights and cannot be to stopped from gaining more success.

Ethereum is not going to lose the value it gained any time soon but many think this crazy rally can continue and the truth is with the market cap as high as it is now I will not count with that to be true, I think we will see Ethereum growing in a similar fashion as bitcoin has done for the previous years and maybe bitcoin is going to outpace Ethereum in some periods of time due to improvements on the network like segwit.

I have more confidence in bitcoin, but the etherium is also worth trying. Many promise a good future for the etherium and maybe it will become even stronger than bitcoin.

Yeah if those people have no skills and if they are worried about bitcoin investment that is also a good way that they invest their money in multiple places or multiple coins, because multiple investment have no more risk if they feel risk in one place they have multiple choice and other have no risk and also in multiple investment have large profit.

Ethereum will recovery soon and growth the price to $500 in end 2017, this is my guess if the crypto market still keep trend growth after SegWit2x success and ended Summer. Maybe in September we can see the price recovery to $ 300 first

Before thinking of a price of 500 for each ETH we need to wait and see if there is a recovery since the amount of market cap lost in this week by Ethereum and other alts have been nothing but outstanding, and we have no idea if this is the floor on how low alts can go or if there is still room for the decrease in price to go even further than it has gone until now.

Bitcoin, yes. August 1st will solve the scaling problem finally. Ethereum, no. It's an infinite supply shitcoin that so many other altcoins can do too. Bitcoins will have a version of Ethereum in them in the future but it will actually be decentralized. See the difference?

Yes, it seems support for SegWit2x emerging from bitcoin miners, even though it also fluctuate just like bitcoin price. According to New York agreement in May which they proposed miners will support activating segwit on the bitcoin network on August 1. But it require miners to initiate a hard fork with network consensus in order to increase the block size limit into 2Mb, better than just we're sitting on 1Mb block size right now. But, I'm sure bitcoin price will rise after they implement segwit and increase block size few months later.

So, buy bitcoin now or later will be profitable in long term but do not spend all of your funds at once, try to divide into several amounts and buy if bitcoin price decline, and same strategy for ethereum.

Thanks for detailed explanation! My opinion is same with you: Sell bitcoin and buy other alternative coins if bitcoin price continue it's downtrend.Ethereum is second and best alternative coin/token to bitcoin.I will try my luck with ethereum.

Bitcoin right now is still a great buy maybe it's the last chance you have to actually buy bitcoin before it goes to outer space. Who knows. Ethereum on the other hand is a different story. Right now ethereum is extremely overpriced ik my opinion. So I would be careful buying ethereum at this point.
