Title: Would you enter the market now in ETH ?
Post by: FrenchWoofy on June 13, 2017, 12:06:23 PM
Hello,

I would like to enter the market of cryptocurrencies.
It's been 2 years since I'm following more or less the cryptocurrencies (I don't know anything, just the trends).

I am thinking of investing 50000€ (1/8 of my savings)
devided like this:
- 1 BTC
- 1000€ in a dozen altcoins
- the rest (majority) in ETH

Would you enter the market now ?
or
Should I skip ETH and just enter the market with the few 1000€ in cheap altcoins and 1 BTC ?

Thank you

Before investing in ethereum you should understand its price based on agressive media campaign, advertising to people who not familiar with cryptocurrencies and major stake of pre-mined coins what never reached the exchange. There is barely 100000 eth on exchanges despite ethereum have almost 100 million supply. Still, that doesn't mean ethereum will not go up. There is big money involved and some whale(s) who control like 99% of eth at the moment will try to  increase its capitalization as high as possible.

Where can I see how much ETH are exchanged at any given moment ?
I only see the marketcap / volume (24h) / circulating supply.

What can I understand with this information ?

There's definitely more than 100000 eth on exchanges. Poloniex Cold Wallet + Hot wallet together already have over 4.5 million ethers.
https://etherscan.io/address/0xb794f5ea0ba39494ce839613fffba74279579268
https://etherscan.io/address/0x32be343b94f860124dc4fee278fdcbd38c102d88

That's excluding the amount held by services like Coinbase, Gemini or other exchanges like Kraken, Bitrexx etc.

Additionally, people usually withdraw ethers into their own wallets for safekeeping. Exchanges are not 100% secure as we have seen in the MtGox episode.

Ether is one of the most traded cryptos second to only bitcoin. I would definitely recommend not missing out on it in your portfolio.

Do not skip for any coin that have potential to give you more profit. Buy eth buy btc and also don't forget other altcoin that good to hold.

Maybe invest a little bit more into "others". Search, but on the top of my head, i would say Stratis, Lisk, Iconomi, Ark, Waves, ...

As goes for the ETH investment, i think it is great! I only see ETH going upwards in the future, i think it should surpass Bitcoin soon, so the marketcap is going to increase for at least 30 %. It is also used as a platform for many other coins, so there is more to it, than there is to Bitcoin (as you probably already know).

Wise thinking, to only invest 1/8. I would do it like this:
35 000 - ETH
1 BTC
rest - into the pool of other coins you think are good! You might want to limit yourself, so you don't buy any "shit"coins (i generally set this border at 200th place at coinmarketcap), which will die off, but other than that, invest in what you like.

Not now in my opinion. Its very high and almost .2 BTC I will wait for correction and buy. Though I do not know will it happen, I will just set my BUY Order on its lowest deep.

Just a personnal opinion, injecting the majority of your initial investment with ETH,is how to say... really crazy. ETH is mainly based on the buzz  around it. Are you from France? With such a big amount, your bank account will be flagged direct! :D More than 10 000€  in a month don't forget Tracfin will list you on his list for review :D :D
Good luck with what you decide

Then if it is too late to buy ETH, my question can seem naive but I have to ask:
Which coins have that potential of a x000% increase in 2017-2017 ?

No one can tell, thats why most of the people here are only invested in BTC but talk about other coins. I had invested 25% of my BTC in altcoins and though it is quite profitable, it would have fetched much more profit if I had not invested in other than BTC.
Well, its your choice, in BTC you will eventually end up with a profit.

I understand you.
Although I believe BTC don't have that potential of a 1000% increase within the next year.
Altcoins are much more likely to have that kind of increase during this time.

If ETH did overtake bitcoin in marketcap it could soon become the dominant crypto meaning its price could spike even further at the realization there is a new leader. I would therefore say yes ETH is a good bet now but you will still have that portion you are putting in other alts and the one bitcoin so I wouldn't worry, the whole market is still headed up.

Seems like a trolling account or one of the main initiators of the Ether ponzi game.
Doesn't even know the basics of trading.

Lol, dont invest 50k in ETH now when the price is allready pumped. Price is gonna decrease soon.

I think the chance of Ether getting to $500 without a 50% correction first is slim. If you want to buy Ether consider to wait a while for the inevitable correction.

Nobody can tell such a thing. And I guess that if you want to invest in coins and sell everything till the end of 2017, ethereum might not be a good one. The price is already too big, I think it is ought to fall and then go up slowly. I think people omit it, but litecoin is a good coin to invest your money in. And it is still a cheap one. If you want to invest in eth, try to wait and see if the price is getting down.

I believe ETH should overtake bitcoin and though it may crash a bit first before that happens it seems at the current trends inevitable. So to answer your question yes I would enter the market now.

ETH is in pump mode at this moment. In your place I'd wait for the correction. BTW there are plenty of promising coins on the exchanges.

ETH Ethereum is a must-hold in your portfolio... The number of applications being deployed on ethereum are giving it a strong edge over bitcoin. So my advice, buy eth buy btc, and hold... ETH price is expected to be at atleast 50% par with bitcoin's price this year or next.

Certainly, it would be very hard to jump into the ETH at $400... on that I agree with many previous posts here. Ideally, you could have gotten in closer to $300 yesterday, but it was only there for a very short time and then shot up again. You of course could wait for the next correction/consolidation but who knows what that is going to be at. If you look at the last several months, pretty much every reasonably significant ETH drop was recovered almost immediately, then proceeded to establish new highs. Sure, there is no guarantee how long that trend will continue, but i would not be shocked if we see $500-$600 range before another drop, and I doubt that will be anywhere near the 50% that another poster predicted... maybe 20-30% tops but again, you have to be on top of it and pull the trigger fast.

The thing about ETH that many people don't realize is that it probably has the biggest backing/support/engagement with huge businesses like Intel, Samsung, Microsoft, etc. (google Enterprise Ethereum Alliance). Probably the only ones that can possibly even touch ETH in this area are BTC & Ripple, but ETH is outpacing both of those as well. I think some people are using the wrong terminology for the rise in ETH price... ie: this is not a "pump" in the typical sense of pump-&-dump altcoin style. That terminology brings up connotations of scams and people/groups pumping up prices then dumping their junk before it bottoms out. This is far from the case with ETH, as any easy to do research will prove. There are many well established altcoiners/investors expecting ETH to hit $1k before end of year and given its backing and ever increasing usage models, that doesn't seem unrealistic at all.

I think ETH still got potential to rise again, if I were you I will definitely invest some in ETH,ETH got a better future than other alt coin, but to get rich with ETH maybe it's a bit difficult because the price already so high, so it will take a moment before another high rise

As everyone knows ethereum is pumping in large scale and media hype and some recent ico uses erc20 it makes ether value increases . Once pumping stops and some of ico proves scam then it will be dumbed in large scale

I have been trading ETH for a long time. And even most of profits i earned came from ETH. I think ETH is more profitable, even now price is getting higher.

Correction must be close now, but if Ethereum market cap becomes higher than Bitcoin, we could see another big increase just before. Anyway I still think even if Ethereum becomes the number 1, the correction would put bitcoin at the top place again. I think this will be just a temporary situation.

Be careful while investing in ETH, "never invest during a pump", someone said. These days it's hard to follow this advice as every coin has been pumped  :D

if your goal is long term, it is safe to invest in ETH anytime. They have lots of support from ICOs, that is why even they call it a bubble, it is still worth a risk.

Why shall I enter... Ethereum is almost 400 dollars. No attempt to enter the market is meaningfull right now with these prices. Honestly saying because a huge dump could happen any time.
