And thank you for stepping up. By the way, if anyone's wondering, this thread is legit. I'm too busy these days to give BipCoin the full attention it deserves. SamuelPickwick is a good guy, smart and will work with y'all. Throw him some BIP and BTC when you can. Being a dev is a thankless job and there is no money in it. Say "thank you" to him too if he helps you out. And the more BIP he has, the more incentive he has to keep this going. Old thread locked. The hard drive space has been slowly filling up leading me to believe it is downloading the ledger. Any way to be 100% certain? Just type print_cn into the node command line prompt. You should see a list of other nodes your node is connected to. If their status is listed as status_normal your node is up to date with them and the blockchain. If they are listed as status_synchronising your node is still behind (which it definitely should not be if you have been running it for a month). You can also quit the node by typing exit into the command line and then restarting the node. Please use the exit command because that way the node will save the blockchain and you don't have to download it again. As the node starts up it should give a report of how it is connecting to other nodes and if it is behind them. Btw, Monero node CLI has a status command that makes it very easy to check if your node is up to date, but unfortunately to my knowledge Bipcoin does not have such a command (at least not yet). Let me ask a question about my BipCoin Windows GUI wallet v.0.0.0.4. Today I sent some bipcoins from my wallet to cryptopia deposit address. Unfortunately I could not sent more than 260-270 BIP in one transaction; if I determined more BIPs for sending, I received an error message that my transaction is too big. Also some of this transactions don't confirm yet with "?" status, and some transactions there confirmed or in the process of confirmation now. So please tell me how I can to resynchronize my BipCoin Windows GUI wallet to see an actual balance and transactions history. Thank you!

Title: Re: BipCoin - CryptoNote, profitable to mine [same chain, new dev 2017] Post by: KittyCatTech on July 15, 2017, 07:37:43 PM When will there be an update for the gui wallet and will the algorithm for changing the difficulty change more efficiently? If more people run my nicehash script (https://github.com/KittyCatTech/bipcoin-nicehash-bot) it will keep the network hashrate more stable. The problem is when the network hashrate and difficulty drops too low it incentivises a miner to come mine alot of blocks really quickly and then the network has to slow down a lot to make up for all the quickly mined blocks. The script will make sure there is more hashing power when the difficulty starts to go down by only buying hashing power when it is profitable to do so and will stop mining when some other miner adds alot of hashing to the network. Please ask if you need help setting it up. You need to pay attention to this point. Need a better algorithm for changing the difficulty. Title: Re: BipCoin - CryptoNote, profitable to mine [same chain, new dev 2017] Post by: KittyCatTech on July 19, 2017, 05:36:55 PM I can not understand why this script is needed. In the network block for more than 3 hours is not. The difficulty will be very slowly reduced, the delay between the blocks will be long in time. You need to pay attention to this point. Need a better algorithm for changing the difficulty. The nicehash script (https://github.com/KittyCatTech/bipcoin-nicehash-bot) is needed to keep the network hashrate from falling too low. The higher the network hashrate the more costly it is to slow down the network by over mining for a short period of time. This is why you don't see it happening to coins that have a higher network hashrate. Because on those coins no one can afford to spike up the network hashrate, even for a short period of time, to disrupt the network difficulty and the block times. The nicehash script will ensure that as the price of BipCoin rises the network hashrate rises concurrently and therefore making it less likely to spike up like we have seen it do recently (https://poolpolice.org/#bip). However, if the new Lead BipCoin Dev, SamuelPickwick, wants to fork to a better algorithm for changing difficulty, one of the other BipCoin Devs already has one that is written and being used currently by one of the other CryptoNote coins. It would not be difficult to make that change and release a new version of BipCoin. But it might not be necessary if we get the price and network hashrate up and start beating out some of the other coins. I think BipCoin is going to rapidly win over market share because we are the 'No Gov Crypto' that is 'Making Dark Coins Fun Again!' by focusing on making it easy and fun for people to use. Let's let users vote with their BIP on what the roadmap should be for BipCoin. The hashrate is about 3 times higher than it should be based on the current price and it keeps on spiking up higher and then coming back down which makes the difficulty rise quickly and then take a long time to adjust back down. This is causing really long block times and delaying the confirmation of transaction as well as slowing down the mining pools and making it much less profitable to mine. While the algorithm for calculating difficulty could be changed to alleviate this problem, that might not be necessary If we can grow the coin to a higher price, network hashrate and market share of the CryptoNote mining capacity. If the network hashrate is higher, then it becomes more costly to use these hashrate spikes to manipulate the difficulty and disrupt the block times. The larger we can grow the coin, the more robust and secure it will be. What exactly are the benefits of running nodes to begin with.

I've been trying to mine some but the recommended pool (http://democats.org/pool/?name=bipcoin) seems to be dead. So I've switched to http://bip.ms-pool.net.ua but there are only a few miners and few blocks found. Is there a bigger pool? Title: Re: BipCoin - CryptoNote, profitable to mine [same chain, new dev 2017] Post by: Mynero on September 08, 2017, 08:25:59 AM Some things that can help the coin are:
- Running a node - Mining - Explaining the benefits of BIP (no ICO, no premine, no instamine) to other crypto enthusiasts on Reddit, Twitter, Facebook etc. But if the current developer has indeed given up on the coin then the number one issue would be finding a new dev (or preferably more than one). Those of us who cannot code can help by spreading the word about BIP and donating to a development pool (if new devs are found). Just look at the blockchain.
You can't rely on charity mining to keep a coin alive. Why is it that difficulty never adjusted? With 5 blocks a day or on average for weeks it should be down too almost zero, yet it's sky high. This seems to go beyond the small coin hash attack suffered by many small coins (mostly cryptonote due to cpu mining). A real shame as I was a fan from the start. I can no longer find even a single cpu coin worth mining any more. A month ago you mentioned some updates that are in the pipeline. Anything new there? I did release some new code (3,265 lines) last month (https://github.com/KittyCatTech) that I had been working on for a long time. However BipCoin needs to have more stable block times before the coin will be usable for commerce. In the last couple weeks I have rewritten my hicehash bot (https://github.com/KittyCatTech/bipcoin-nicehash-bot) to solve this problem and I am now testing and debugging the new changes. I'll publish the updated bot on github once I'm satisfied with the way it's working. But you should be noticing shorter average block times already as I test it. So I'm looking forward to people (possibly you) opening nice hash accounts and running the bot to keep the block times short. I think this is a much better (market based) solution than adjusting the difficulty algorithm. There are a few other projects that I'm going to suggest that the community join me in donating to the development of such as: a paper wallet generator, merchant gateway, and online wallet. Join us as we continue our mission to make dark coins fun again. While it is commendable that you still work on the project instead of just giving up, it is not realistic to expect people to rent hashpower for what looks to be almost 100% loss right now. I still have not seen a clear explanation why difficulty has failed to adjust properly for months now. I've seen other cryptonight coins with such issues but nowhere near so severe. Are you sure modifying the difficulty adjustment is not the better approach? Title: Re: BipCoin - CryptoNote, profitable to mine [same chain, new dev 2017] Post by: bspus on October 31, 2017, 06:46:01 AM And suddenly, difficulty dropped to like 13k. Blocks are coming very very fast, over 1 block per minute, but the pool I tried to mine in with 1.3k gets nothing for over an hour.
Obviously the real hash power is much higher than difficulty because a super miner is getting all the blocks. Soon, difficulty will be 200k again and he will stop, leaving the suckers for weeks to work for nothing. Really, difficulty algorithm needs to be fixed ASAP, otherwise the coin is as good as dead. Title: Re: BipCoin - CryptoNote, profitable to mine [same chain, new dev 2017] Post by: nizzuu on October 31, 2017, 08:04:41 AM Really, difficulty algorithm needs to be fixed ASAP, otherwise the coin is as good as dead. There's nothing to actually fix. All the settings are set in header file: https://github.com/BEASTLICK-INTERNET-POLICY-COMMISSION/bipcoin/blob/master/src/CryptoNoteConfig.h onst uint64_t DIFFICULTY_TARGET = 120; // seconds const uint64_t EXPECTED_NUMBER_OF_BLOCKS_PER_DAY = 720; const size_t DIFFICULTY_WINDOW = 720; const size_t DIFFICULTY_CUT = 60; // timestamps to cut after sorting const size_t DIFFICULTY_LAG = 15; // !!! These are default ones, and nobody is interested in reading cryptonote daemon documentation or changin somethin. Famous coins such as Monero have a good decentralization, you're just not able to take 500 Mh/s somewhere from your pocket to shake network diff. Good decision is to associate these settings with current block number to put off nicehash users while network speed is too low at the beginning of the coin's life. As the network hashrate is evaluated, it's a bad way to bind to it. It will keep the difficulty from dipping so much like you mentioned one day ago and also during longer blocktimes keep the network hashrate from going too low. I think this solution is going to work really well (even better than changing the difficulty algorithm) but I'll keep an eye on it for a while longer before I release the code on github. As the price increases I am going to try to stabilize that also so that there are not so many spikes and drops and we can keep it at a steady increase. They require a payment ID, which pools do not use with payment sends. Cryptopia provides a warning in quite a few places: "WARNING! Please do not mine to your Cryptopia addresses, We do not support transactions from pools like P2Pool etc." Edit: Sorry, I thought you were sending from a mining pool. These are from regular wallets, and you used the payment ID Cryptopia provided you with? Last time I sent BIP to that exchange it took quite awhile to show up, but not that long. That was sent at 216,231. For me this coin neads real miners and not nicehach,so it can be profitable for them and only then can catch the eyes of some one to invest on it. For me this coin neads real miners and not nicehach,so it can be profitable for them and only then can catch the eyes of some one to invest on it. The problem that pushes the difficulty so high is nicehash bots mining at a profit when the difficulty gets too low. The solution to stop them is to under cut them by buying nicehash mining at a lower profit and therefore being less disruptive to the block times. That is the only way to stop them from disrupting the blockchain because it effectively gets rid of their financial incentive to create the disruption. Ok, I was using the Bipcoin v.0004 from 1/16/2017. It looks like the 5/21/2017 version with the security fix doesn't have the start_mining in simplewallet. Did you try calling miner from the command prompt? It looks like you tried to call it from within simplewallet since you got that "unknown command" error. miner --daemon-address 127.0.0.1:18871 --address [WALLET_ADDRESS] which is the same as miner.exe --daemon-address 127.0.0.1:18871 --address [WALLET_ADDRESS] Title: Re: BipCoin - CryptoNote, profitable to mine [same chain, new dev 2017] Post by: Jacob Tothe on February 23, 2018, 08:36:54 AM I tried running the program from the command prompt. c:\bipcoin\miner.exe --daemon-address 127.0.0.1:18871 --address [bipcoin wallet address] -threads 8 The threads limitation results in "Fatal: unrecognized option '-threads'" If I drop the threads command, the computer shows high CPU activity in the task manager, but no indication that anything is actually mining, and it prevents me from using the computer for anything else. Also, browser mining from freebitco.in on 8 cores results in a temperature change on my CPU, while this command prompt entry did not. It looks like pool mining is the only option that will work at this point. I would prefer to see simplewallet reintroduce CPU mining from its command prompt. Hi I'm interested in organising and funding a renovation for Bipcoin and becoming part of the team Main things I'd like to have upgraded are Logo and Website. A new name to go along with the refresh would be good too. Remember DogeCoin Dark? That was basically where BipCoin is now, until they rebranded to Verge. Now it's a billion dollar coin. i think it is good idea, the logo looks like cat food , has to be changed in my opinion Title: Re: BipCoin - CryptoNote, profitable to mine [same chain, new dev 2017] Post by: zanasklodas on May 21, 2018, 03:39:25 PM hei guys, then i am running bipcoind , at the end of synchronization i am recieving erorr like

There is no news from the developer, there are no blocks in the network for a month, in fact, the network has stopped, it is not being traded anywhere. Are there people interested in further development and promotion? I propose to change the algorithm to Cryptonote V7 and make a change in the algorithm for changing the difficulty, update the gui wallet. also seen delisting on cryptopia.
