Title: Armory on Ubuntu 16.04 - Torrent engine
Post by: jessjamesjones on June 14, 2017, 05:38:46 AM
Hi

I downloaded armory onto my computer running ubuntu 16.04 and set up a wallet.
I missed doing the install of bitcoin core! I feel like a total idiot.
BUT I SENT A BITCOIN TO THE WALLET ANYWAY. Panic!
So the bitcoin has left Coinbase but cant get to the armory wallet.

I can't get the wallet online. I followed the instructions in this video: https://youtu.be/bmUP26r-Pr4

I followed the instructions in this video: https://youtu.be/bmUP26r-Pr4
But still offline. When i start Armory it just sits there at "Initializing Torrent Enginge"
After a few minutes i get a message window:
"Torrent
Armory is attempting to use BitTorrent to speed up the initial synchronization, but it appears to be downloading slowly or not at all.
If the torrent engine is not starting properly, or is not downloading at a reasonable speed for your internet connection, you should disable it in File→Settings and then restart Armory."

I have created the Paper version of the wallet as Armory requested at initial startup, so could I recover the wallet by installing Armory on a windows computer (might be simpler for me) even if Armory has not been online on the Ubuntu computer

Can anyone help me, Pleeeese?

You are using a very old version of Armory. The torrent engine (and a lot of other legacy things like the updater) have long since been removed. Upgrade your Armory version to 0.96, available here: https://github.com/goatpig/BitcoinArmory/releases/tag/v0.96

Don't panic.  ;)

Your wallet does not participate in receiving bitcoins.  The information associating the bitcoin with the address in your wallet is registered in the blockchain, and your bitcoin remains safe until you get Armory online.  If everything fails, you even have the option of exporting the private key to another wallet and spend it from there.
