Title: Noob Hashrate Question - HUGE difference between specs & MH/s reported rate
Post by: CoinDreemz on June 14, 2017, 11:57:54 AM
Hi guys,

I'm a brand new n00b, but have tried to do some research before posting here so pleas excuse me.

I have 2 x Radeon HD 7970 6GB GPUs mining Sia at the moment which according to Marlin.exe and SiaMining are pumping out 1,680MH/s. This sounds great, but is VERYy different to the reported hash rates I find when googling my GPUs - seems they should be putting out more like 36-42 MH/s each, so around 70-80 MH/s in total... am i missing something obvious or stupid which you could point out for me please?

I'm trying to calculate rate of return, and with this large variation I am not sure what numbers to use. Other system specs if it helps; Windows 10 64-bit, i7 3970 3.5GHz CPU, Asus P9X79 Motherboard, 64GB DDR3 RAM, SSD.

Thanks!!

With a GTX1070/1080 I mine over 3500 MH/s, not sure exact rate as I don't mine only strictly siacoin, just did it as a test once.

The rates you looked up were most likely for ETH. If you need a lot more help message me a discord or something.

Thanks mate, I think I was misunderstanding that MH/s varies between algorithms.

Thanks for the help!
