How much time does it take to build a "typical" mining rig?

Typical setup (z170/z270 board,etc), or what ever you prefer, mining - ETH,ZCASH,ETC,ETC

There are tons of threads on this subject. Just take your time and do a bit of searching.  typical setup is 1200-8000$ so there really isn't a typical.

depends on tuning and how good you are with building computers, I think an hour from opening the first box to being booted into an OS and mining is possible if you know what you are doing and don't overclock. I personally am on day 3 of finding a stable overclock.

Thank you for the reply, I was asking about time, not money; but I'm always interested in more information. I am going to check out the link you posted.

I would say it takes about 20 hours of labor for me to get a rig up and running from start to hashing.

This includes the time it takes to custom build a frame from aluminum and wood, install parts, update bioses, install Windows, install cards, testing, undervolting/overclocking, and finally hashing.

The first rig took like 200 hours. Lots of learning...

The time to assemble the rig is not that problem. The problem is actually finding parts in stock like GPUs, motherboards and risers.

200 hours down to 20 hours. Wow, that's impressive.

1-3hrs to source parts locally (or 2weeks online)
1-2hrs to assemble
1hr to install OS
1hr to get drivers and mining software up to date
1-2hrs to tune the cards. (2-4hrs if you really fiddle with them)

setup changes a lot. tight spaces with wiring or airflow concerns may add an hour to assembly. issues with drivers (win7 installations dont play well with usb3.0) or pcie settings can add another hour or two

your first one will take an afternoon to get running at 90-95% optimal, and another day or two to finesse it

Much of that 200 hours was learning what timings were. playing around with hex editors. trying different programs.
Once you get that all down, then the other steps get much shorter.

If you play with different hardware hours. Keeping everything the same I'm up and running in 15-30 minutes now and I'm sure I can get it down to like 10 minutes flat. 99.9% sure of that.

It's literally plug and play, I'm all about efficiency and time is money.

a new six card rig takes me about 3 hours max since i use ssd, honestly the longest and most anoying part
is unboxing the gpus , psus , riser packages , cpu boxes as well lol.  After thats done its a hour and a half max for nvidia , for Amd due to bios mods if its a new card i dont have a bios for could add another hr max so 3 hrs tops.

I have almost 60 gpus laying around that im dreading unboxing since i hate that part so much , thank god im out of power ;D

Just building a rig isn't all that time consuming, it is just plugging parts in and then loading the OS install drivers, flash bios and copy over mining software.

Building the rig might include construction of frame, I use pvc and a wood board to mount mobo on.

You could need more power so you will have to run electrical conduit, mount the power box and install new breaker in your electrical panel

And the home depo runs, driving time, shopping for the stuff you need takes time.

Hard to say exactly how long, if everything goes smoothly then it goes fast but if you run into problems then that is what eats up time.
