Title: 1August.org - A project to help regular users get through the fork unharmed
Post by: 1August on June 18, 2017, 11:08:52 AM
https://1August.org

1August.org is an effort by enthusiasts and professionals in the Bitcoin and Altcoin space.

Our goal is to put together a guide for the regular bitcoin user to be able to understand what is going on, and how they can be safe over the next couple of months.

This guide is targeting the business owners accepting bitcoin, the college kids who dabbled with it, the retired folks who invested in it, and all other kinds of people who just want to use bitcoin and move money around without having to worry about forks and scaling and proposal wars.

We are looking for community help in checking our facts, suggestions on improving the guide, and help in advertising the site to the users it aims to serve - the guys and girls who use Bitcoin but don't hang around on reddit and bitcointalk forums.

Why are you so sure that the fork is going to happen on 1 August?
Do you have any evidence? Some people were talking about activating Segwit and scaling during September or even October.
By the way,i don`t believe that there are "guys and girls who use bitcoin, but don`t hand around" here.
Every single bitcoin user knows about this forum and participates in the forum community. ;D
Good luck with your project OP.

Well, we aren't sure of the date. Nobody is. The odds, however, lean towards 2017-08-01. We will rephrase it to be less fixated on 1st August, though. No sense in spreading misinformation.

BIP 148 is set to activate on August 1st. If it doesn't have a majority of the hashrate (which, right now, seems basically guaranteed), then there will be a fork. Even if it does have a majority, there still will likely be a fork, but not for long. Bitmain is also going to hard fork shortly after BIP 148 activates so there will be another fork. I think that on August 1st and for a few days after, there will be at least 1 blockchain fork event.

Why would the average person on the street associate your site with something that has happened with Bitcoin? If I had the option to chose a

domain name, it would have had something to do with the event and not just the date. Examples : BTCAug1 or BitcoinAfter1Aug etc. The

significance of the date is not enough to draw people to the site.  ???

What would this mean for us users?

At the moment I am running Bitcoin core 14.1, so after fork what changes for me?
