Update - after fixing it via adding checkpoints it kept been 51%. I pulled git into private area. If someone want to develop it I can re open it. Perhaps re opening after 2-3 days depends on the interest.

Update - it seems pocopoco is working on his original idea to be released. To make it clear I compiled client of coin we mine here - https://github.com/algordon/ycoin

It is based on pocopoco implementation of novacoin. Idea is to allow community to choose - if someone want to continue to develop Ycoin.

You can examine git its seems same as nova. I have compiled it now from scratch and it working fine. Some changes could make it better.

Update - original developer pocopoco seems to be nowhere to be found. I have made a clone of his git to allow for coin development provided some people are interested. https://github.com/algordon/ycoin/

I have looked at source code it seems to be implemented in same was as feathercoin , as MarkM noted. So yes some changes to it could made it a bit better. Up to you guys now :)

In yacoin channel we are mining it. When I started around 400K was mined by some dudes. I managed to get some :) It seems clone of nova. I downloaded zip of git as well just in case. #yacoin freenode :)

P.S Also want to buy 10K of them for ltc.

Its real in many ways.

1) First blocks started around 24H deadline so I been told. Maybe MarkM can check it.

2) Its fully working coin with POW and POS. We sent some coins its working

3) There is no way to say yac made a slip or what. Note he is quiet. Anyway I am keen to speculate on it after china coin with its borked code went to exchange :)

9444 block and started around 24 hours time when yac suppose to be out. Is it his or not 0 ideas. However I am going to watch youtube and mine some of it :)

Are people losing the coins they thought they had mined, as would happen if for example it managed to connect to the Novacoin net and realise everything it thought it had mined was on an orphan chain?

It's not novacoin network. It is its own network. They create a new network by only changing the irc channel ... all miners clients connect to it and know each other that way. Quite easy to create a scam money from nowhere. Grab the source code, rename all "*coin" to "yourcoin". Recompile. Done. New network, new blockchain, enjoy. :D

Also I mined it for some time and it all seems fine, coins adding up slowly, new stake I presume is POS. Seems like fully working new coin.

Fine until you do happen across a node of the other network.

Then your connection handshake works, you notice blocks do not match, and maybe disconnect each other as naughty nodes or kindly help each other get onto the longest chain, orphaning the other chain...

(For example, someone runs NVC as well as the new clone both behind the same household router. Both connect to an IRC channel. Same IP address and port now appears in both IRC channels. If that port is open to incoming connections the fun begins...)

And that must be the "switch" part of the bait and switch, where a seemingly unrelated (but strangely insisting) passerby who effectively premined heavily during the confusion proposes to just keep going with that copy of Novacoin.
Or how to make a whole diversion scenario to launch a copycat altcoin with heavy premine while making it look like it was accidental.
Anyway, cheers for the staging, this is the most original altcoin scam scenario I have seen to date.

It seems many wanted to mine yacoin then his old git came up. Initially people though this is da new coin :) Then ok it was clear its nova clone. So some decided lets mine it for lulz.

It have been 51% twice yet about to be restored. At least some people took action instead of simply saying nothing released at due day a well. As to premine I did posted fairly early about fact people mining this stuff ;) anyways good to learn and lets see what happens to it.

Since interest is low I pulled git down. When many people want it then it can be open again with win QT and so on. :)
