Title: BTCForums.com auction experiment
Post by: petrosc on June 19, 2017, 09:11:34 PM
My original asking price was 0,5BTC but noone offered as much, even though there was an offer somewhat close to that. So I decided to experiment a bit. I am putting it on auction here on bitcointalk.org

Auction rules:
BTCForums.com - one of the few quality bitcoin domains available for sale
Starting bid 0,05BTC
Auction ends 7 days from now
Highest bidder gets the name. To encourage early bids, I will be increasing asking price by 0,01BTC every 24 hours until the first bid is received. Afterwards price stays as is until someone outbids the last bidder. If you are lucky enough you can get the name for 0,05 BTC

Happy bidding:)

P.s. Proof of ownership: domain redirects to this thread.

Ha ha

Nice proof of ownership: I tried to access the url and I was redirected to this thread :)
Well... is not a bad name, I might be interested.
Where is the domain registered?

its going to be hard to develop a forum when bitcointalk exist. anyone could figure this out before starting one which is probably the reason why no one offered such. i myself have developed a forum using mybb back then but sold it to someone interested. there are tons of btc forum nowadays not to mention the altcoin forums.

It is registered at Dynadot. Superb regsitrar, I hold all my domain names there. The domain transfer between dynadot accounts (which are free) is instant and free

This is exactly why this domain has value! :)
If someone ever wanted to create such a forum, it needs to at least stand out , the domain name should be generic, preferably .com and directly related to the forumīs subject. If you are starting a new forum with a domain name like bitcoindiscussionplace.com you have a handicap from the start

So BTCForums.com is a really great name, lots of forums, it is generic, it is on spot, it is a .com and most importantly..... it looks like someone is going to get a great deal

that is not true. if you create a forum this time, you'd have a hard time find a user loyal enough to stay on your forum unless bitcointalk.org dies which unlikely to happen. you'd just add up to the long list of bitcoin forum that aren't active enough.

Besides the fact that it is very difficult to develop a successful project in this niche, there is one more thing I did not mention in my first post: do not forget that it's  btcforums.com, not  btcforum.com
In my opinion there is a very big difference between these two domains (that extra "s").

i did not see it  untill superious mention it..

its true with the S make the domain name has no value..

but if you cant get btcfurum.com just get this one

Ok guys. Its nice that you have an opinion on whether the domain is worthless or not, but this is not the place to discuss it. However, since some seem to have an issue with the letter "s" at the end, let me remind you that many, many successful forums have the "s" at the end.

For example.
ubuntuforums.org - global rank 3,797
tenforums.com - global rank 4,282
sevenforums.com - global rank 5,178
leakforums.net - global rank 9,023
india-forums.com - global rank 9,522
englishforums.com - global rank 8,984
physicsforums.com - 6,057
androidforums.com - 9,957
hackforums.net - 11,598
freeforums.net - 10,523

The list goes on and on. The above are just a few of the top 10,000 websites in the world.

And here are some domain name sales(not website) of "worthless" domains with the word forums (with "s")in it.

Domain is good, but can you give us more informations on it, like when it was created, number of visits, potential visits?
If someone is interested to buy it, these informations can be helpful.

even if those details exist. it won't stand a chance against the existing forums it will be buried down the pages of search results. there is a reason why you can't find the existing bitcoin forums when you search "bitcoin forum". mainly, bitcointalk wins it all. site wide links going to cover the first pages lol

It was created in 2013 - unfortunetely I forgot to renew it and expired, but I managed to re-register it right after expiration again in 2014. So if you check the whois now, you will see it is registered since 06.2014 .
Number of visits, I dont keep stats because it does not get much type in traffic. Regarding potential visits, well that depends on development.
I did receive a few offers in the past, which I rejected, the highest being 900 USD.
