That's exaclty it. Get as few people as possible to be able to mine it, so they can get as much as possible while the diff is low.

I haven't heard DDOS thrown around in 2 days, I thought the community finally learned what It meant. I guess not.

Also, I think there a huge number of newbie pool operators who don't know how to deal with the traffic.  Their not being DDoSed they're just hammered with legit traffic and their running everything off a potato.  There are of course DDoS going on but that seems to be a scape goat as well.

Havent noticed a DDoS on Litecoin or MinCoin.

DDoSers miss a few or not strong enough for the big boys?

Are you saying my potato farm won't handle the traffic? But I just upgraded from mini-spuds.

Do you know what it means? Distributed Denial of Service attack. Define.

Really? DOS stands for Disk Operating System, doesn't it?

I know exactly what it means. I have not heard of a true DDOS attack on any of the alt-coins recently. Only too much load from too many users.

There's been a few. Gox is still getting DOS'd, you can watch the latency climb during low volume.

This. DDOS = Distributed Disk Operating System.

Most probably correct.  A bunch of pool ddos attacks are probably just the result of running a pool on a botnet friendly coin.  If the coin is profitable botnets will want to get in on it.

I got hit with about 20gbps worth of traffic, according to two of my upstream providers at least. Forcing one (suckers) to outright cancel my account.
I'd swim in random coins at 0.1% fee if those were miners.

Not if there were too many of them for any to actually connect and mine due to clogging the capacity of your bandwidth pipe or port opening subsystem or something. Or were simply enough to trigger some kind of "it must be an attack" defenses along the way.

The DDoS attacks on pools are real, in my case I was hit with over 8gbit at one point. Not a matter of too many users. It's not even that expensive to run a massive pool like BTCGuild. Protecting yourself against attacks is though.

sorry I've no experience with pools, just servers.
isn't it possible to have web interface on one server collecting users ip and adding to firewall allow on a pool server elsewhere?
