Title: Need an energy efficient algo
Post by: destruct on May 07, 2013, 05:25:52 PM
For everyone paying for power such as myself. We really need a developer to create a coin that is energy efficient as all scrypt coins take about an additional 20% power/day then SHA-256 which I would never mine scrypt coins if ASIC's didn't ruin SHA-256.

What is the main difference between the 2 that causes the high energy usage? it is just basically because of the need for memory clock?

( ) ASIC friendly
( ) Botnet friendly

Choose one.

There could be a coin that had HUGE memory requirements on the order of 8gb or more that could cut out both but if course require the purchase of memory.

Memcoin.  You heard it here first.

You are never going to have an energy efficient coin if proof of work is required to secure the network. You can also, with some ingenuity, have a coin that is both ASIC and botnet unfriendly. It just has to be mining-unfriendly in general. The link is in my signature for such a proposal.
