Going around and looking for people who had there cards fried by intensive usage would be the best guess... If someone actually wanted to test this, it would require tens of GPUs (bought with cash from their own pocket). After that multiple PC's would have to be run thousands of hours with and without stress just to get a vague idea. There was an interesting article on E-sports which 'accidentally' added a miner to their software. It's a Gigabyte 7970, and the only problem so far is that the fans are now loud when they're on max speed.

Post by: vm1990 on May 07, 2013, 07:52:33 PM it dosnt atually affect them as much as most people think. the thing that kills gpus is changes in heat from c old to warm to hot and back down as this creates cracks under the GPU chips also known as red ring of death for xbox and yellow light of death for PS3.... if your careful with GPUS keep them at a stable temperature they will last LONGER than if you used it for gaming, when gaming the GPU goes up and down in temp but when mining they stay at locked speeds and stable temps
but if the card stays to hot for to long they will fail most miners aim for around 60-70C on ATI cards some go less i personal run most of mine at stable 68C temps and iv not had 1 fail in over a year the most likely thing to fail when mining is the VRM controls the voltage and very very few people get there cards to 100% usage and ontop of all of that ATI cards are designed with a pretty decent overclock headroom so most miners running with small overclocks are still within the safety Title: Re: how much does mining affect the lifetime of a GPU ?
