Title: [STORY TIME WITH SMOOTHIE] How BFL came to their original ASIC specs... Post by: smoothie on May 08, 2013, 01:14:14 AM (setting takes place in a semi-permanent rental unit in May 2012) Sonny: Hey DEV how are you today? DEV: Not too shabby. Sonny: What you got going on today? DEV: Well I was doing some thinking and thought "what if we make our own ASIC devices for bitcoin mining?" Sonny: Go on... DEV: See right now we are selling FPGAs that mine bitcoin, but if we were to go with a custom device designed specifically for mining bitcoins we could make tons of cash! Sonny: ($-signs glean in his eyes) DEV: So here are the numbers I came up with... (BUSTS OUT HIS CALCULATOR!) ...(1 hour later)... Sonny: Okay i didn't quite understand all of that math but if you think we can make tons of cash I'm for it. How do we start? DEV: Let's put out an announcement on BTCtalk forums that claims we can get 1GH/s per 1 watt with our ASIC devices and charge $X, $Y, $Z, and $A for the different speed devices. Also we will tell them we will deliver in October 2012 just so it sounds realistic given you can't make a device overnight for this stuff. Sonny: go on... DEV: Imagine a 1 TH/s rig Sonny: 1 TH/s rig? Really? You think we could design that and get it to market? DEV: (grin) of course Sonny: Let's do it. Let's use bitpay to allow for USD/FIAT payments and allow for people to pay for their orders with bitcoin too. DEV: Sounds awesome! WE can make MEGA GAZILLION $'s. Sonny: Oh yeah baby! Bring it on! ...(few weeks later)... Sonny: So DEV is the website all ready to go for launch? DEV: Yup we got all the pictures we need for now and pricing to get people to preorder with us. IM SO EXCITED!!!! Sonny: Let's launch then! DEV: Done! ...(48 hours later)... DEV: OMFG WE ARE IN THE $$!! WE GOT LIKE $XXX,XXX.00 in the first 24 hours and the money is still rolling in! BWAHAHAHA! Sonny: HOLY FUCKING SHIT! WOO HOO! PARTY! DEV YOU DA MAN! DEV: We need to leverage this shit so we can make even more GAZILLION $'s! Sonny: Keep taking orders and spam the shit out of GOOGLE ads and bitcoin talk about our ASIXZAH! DEV: Will do. But we do need a front man to handle all of the customers orders and "PR" so we can do "our jobs". Sonny: who do suggest? DEV: Remember that guy that came over to visit the other week? Let's use him! Sonny: Wasn't his name like Jennifer? DEV: Sonny, it was Josh, not Jennifer. Sonny: Oh right! Okay let's use him for this. Let's pay him a fat salary $7X,XXX.00 and get him on board with us ASAP! DEV: Will do! ...(and the rest is history)... [more BFL stories to come with Smoothie...so stay tuned!] Title: Re: [STORY TIME WITH SMOOTHIE] How BFL came to their original ASIC specs... DEV: Will do! Where can we find him. Sonny: Across the street. Look out the window! There he is. DEV: AWESOME! What's he doing. Sonny: If I not mistaken, he's setting up my cousin on his mining pool. DEV: That dude has a pool? Where does he host it. Sonny: Remember that guy that was on TV a while ago who had the most parking tickets in KC? At his Datacenter. (I screwed up the who's speaking part, but you get the gist) Title: Re: [STORY TIME WITH SMOOTHIE] How BFL came to their original ASIC specs... Sonny: ($-signs glean in his eyes) DEV: So here are the numbers I came up with... (BUSTS OUT HIS CALCULATOR!) Sonny: Whoa, let's put up a webpage right away! Call India right now, tell 'em to put the site up for the ASICs! We can handle the design as we go. (secretary calls India) https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTa4iqiasuTHuStICpRlh72cWDksilbbyyQx_hs24JnYR3OpeLQHQ Sonny: ...yeah, that looks good. Sidhu: But sir, we need a shipping date! DEV: The most optimistic scenario is probably going to be February 2013. Sonny: Then let's say October 2012. It doesn't matter if we're late, worked out last time! How big can we make the rigs? DEV: I think we might be able to make 1 TH/s rigs... but there might be problems X, Y, and Z. Sonny: That's OK! We'll sort out the problems later! Sidhu, put up another page for a 1.5 TH/s minirig. *February 2013* Sonny: Well, looks like the wafers are delayed again. Josh, please post an "update" using the script that I gave you. Josh: (flips pages in script) Ah there, after the "schedule" is posted, I'm supposed to say that the chips will come next week, every week for a month. ... *June 2013* Josh: Sonny, I'm running out of excuses in the script, might need a new one soon.
