Title: Anyone else get a Qtum advertising PM?
Post by: DarkStar_ on June 28, 2017, 03:38:30 PM
I got this PM from user luxgladius (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=25058) advertising the launch of Qtum, even though I never talked about Qtum, almost never use the altcoin sections, or participated in any of their campaigns. luxgladius (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=25058) is an account created back in 2011, and has not made a post since then. One of the accounts I am holding as collateral also got the exact same PM from Skunkworks (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=19687).

Now I'm wondering if anyone else got a PM. I'm guessing a lot of people did from many different accounts, but would like to know for sure.

!!! WARNING: This user is a newbie. If you are expecting a message from a more veteran member, then this is an imposter !!!

Yes. From asd4 - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=14162.

P.S. It seems they have bought old newbie accounts in bulk? Was there any (bulk) sale recently?

Same as you but in a different user named klapeck (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=26808) and contains the exact and the same word that was pmed to you. I am wondering why the hell did they send me this since I do not wander in the Altcoin section much. The account klapeck (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=26808) is also created way back 2011 and is a newbie. I didn't click any link they send since I read some threads regarding phising link.

I have a group taking about Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrencies which they tackle more about ICOs and never heard they mentioned Qtum and it is quiet suspicious since I also check the other users who are included to the recipients and looking for our common denominator and seems there is none.

BEWARE: Do not click any suspicious links.

There have been dozens of them banned today. They're using hacked accounts mostly registered in 2011. Just report them and they get banned pretty quick.

I wiped all of those spam PMs, and the senders are all banned.

Any plans on banning Qtum (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=886616), since it's almost definitely them/their team behind the spam?

Didn't get a PM from them, but they and their old campaign manager,  BlackMambaPH, are corrupt and censoring to the core.  Did that garbage project ever turn a profit for anyone other than them?  Didn't think so.   Hope they get banned and it'll be a better world without them.   Good riddance.

Without strong evidence, I can't ban the subject of spam because then you could get anyone banned by spamming "for" them.

This forum should be renamed to altcointalk.org seriously all I see every day are just silly and stupid altcoin topics. I ignored their PM after I read QTUM.
I think we just need a coin for pregnancy, because that's what we are pregnant of these fu*kers :D

That makes sense. If bans would be handed out that easy, you could basically take out competitors by making it look like they are spamming the forum, while in fact it's a completely different entity.

Isn't it an idea to optionally allow people to block PMs coming from newbies? It cost zero effort to create an account and to start spamming, while reaching jr member status at least requires some sort of effort.

I've suggested this before especially when people can and do just create new accounts to spam pm you once you block an account. In this case though not all of them were newbie accounts as they were using older hacked ones.

These messages were not sent or endorsed by anyone on the Qtum team. We can't tell if it's an individual or group that's trying to harm the project, or increase the price for their own benefit.

The timing of these messages is suspicious, we were doing a big event on the same day, and our site was DDoS'd.

If anyone has evidence of the people behind this, please send it directly to the forum's administrators.

We had incidents in the past where our signature campaign was causing spam, and that was one of the reasons we ended it early.

ask yourselves. your team didn't hire bounty whores to somehow distribute your tokens. you bought your tokens yourselves and hire an army of spammers for its awareness. its all classic.  ;D  you harmed your project yourselves by making it a scam.

Yes, and I reported the PMs too. The user is sending these messages on all slack channels too and I did not click on any of those links as they can be malware/phishing links. Are those hacked accounts? They haven't been posting since 2011-12.

Edit: Got 2 more today

Please report these PMs and any future PMs of this nature. Whoever is doing this spamming was not asked on our behalf and it makes people annoyed with us. Whoever is spamming with all these PMs should be banned

Agree I think the one who need to ban is the member who's send those messages.

It happened in past with me a guy was sending PM to me on a mass amount daily and once I replied he sent me a link likely scam intent.
I suggest everyone be precautious when you get these P'Messages.

I received another pm from a newbie. And reported it immediately. Don't click the links. Probably a malware to hack your accounts and destroying the reputation of Qtum Project.

Please report them the moment they arrive. If you see messages like this coming from a "Qtum-Patrick" or "Qtum-Patirck" on Slack channels you frequent, report those also.

Qtum is doing itself harm by sending spam messages

We are not sending the messages, and no one is doing it on our behalf. We don't know why this is happening, it could be an attack on our project, or it could be an individual or a group that is trying to lower the price of our tokens to get more.

It's a bit suspicious that our site was ddos'd the same day these spam messages started, and multiple Slack channels were being spammed by Qtum-Patirck, which was obviously fake.

Back in January/February we had this same type of behavior on our Slack channel from someone spamming almost identical messages about another project.

There is also an ongoing DDoS on our website, which started a few hours after the first spam messages appeared:

Very interesting, take a look at this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=192243.1660

You can see the multiple spam accounts posting small parts of their messages. If you look at the post history of the account that sent that message.

I thought i'm the only one who receive this messages privately i just receive 2 times pm to me and 2 different old account made 2011 and 2013..
This is another attack from the hacker who hack the old database of bitcoin and i think they are the same person who hack the database.. and now trying to encourage people to apply if you are developer they can hired you this is the same as someone who working on black market and hiring someone in services section before to work to them..
Hope that this forum will not down or not be the same as before..

I got one as well. It is kind of annoying, because it is spammy.
I received a PM on two accounts, on different days.
I suggest anyone leave a negative feedback on the user that they received the PM from, because i think spamming users PM's is unacceptable.
