My suggestion would be to do your own research. Just go to http://coinmarketcap.com/ and do research on the top 20 or even maybe top 50 altcoins if you have the time, and then invest from there on what altcoins you think has the best potential.

Personally I would go with eth, sia, golem, xmr, ltc, and ans. Those are my picks and in my opinion has great potential in the next few months or years. What's yours?

If You want to be active trader you can trading on Poloniex or Biitrex. They have many altcoin type.

If You want to speculation You can try buy new altcoin, usually the price are still cheap.

In Poloniex, they are actually picky that's why there is not that much coins compared to other exchanges though they have good User Interface, features. By the way I use poloniex as a means for me to trade. The coins I currently trade are dash, ltc, xmr and other coins I trade are nothing relevant.

Try to invest on the cheaper ones like Bitbay. They are the cheapest that you could get which has the potential to be one of the best. You'd be one of those who will get huge profit after months.

If you want really make big earnings then surely you need multiple accounts for exchange , I mean not a account at one exchange .
Crete you account at yobit.net , poloniex , bitrex , btc-e , nova , livecoin , cryptipia , etc  .
Now find that coin which was much stable but at low rate from.one month and then buy that coin , probably in one month you will be able to make a better amount of the money earnings in the trading job .
Currently my recommendations to buy str coin , strat , dgb , xvg , nav , xev  , etc  these are those coin that will you get at poloniex and also few of them at yobit and also at other exchange .
Here as an friend , I would like to suggest you that never invest all of your money in the single coin because trading is a job which iwuch risk with particular coin and risk will be less if you  are making trading with multiple coins .

In my opinion ETH is the best choice at this time as the price is low and will raise probably in a week or two because Australian government legalized the ETH.
ICN and Ripple are also the good choices for investment in long term. But it's batter to do your own research and check the trends of different coins almost a month and then decide according to your budget.

If you have enough capital, then your choice should be ETH. Because there are ICOs every day using ETH as a currency. And Ethereum is getting better and better with every new smart contracts available.

If you don't have capital and you want some passive income with some risk, then go and buy some TrueFlip tokens. As they already have a working lottery platform. And by their profit calculator even at lowest you will get 20% per year.

Try to find a undervalued coin, or a coin that hasn't been pumped recently. Nobody can tell you which coin to buy, everyone has his own opinion about every projects, so if you ask for a coin you will have different opinion each times.

Anyway don't put all your bag in only one project, spread it the most you can (and keep a part in BTC for future projects)

While you still have your BTC, try to link your wallet to a Byteball address, the next free distribution is coming soon so you could get some coins for free  ;) For that you'll need your own wallet address (not one from exchange).

I am not so sure if Ethereum is a good investment since the price of Bitcoin is moving in whole bunch of directions. The price of Ethereum goes with the price of Bitcoin so you might want to wait till the price of Bitcoin gets a little lower before you purchase any Ethereum.

Would be better to choose your coins to trade with the reference on  : http://coinmarketcap.com/ (top 20 coins) to make sure you won't regret after make a decision. Because market it's unpredictable, so choose carefully.

Try to find a undervalued coin, or a coin that hasn't been pumped recently.
With good news on those coins, it's possible to make those coins get pumped.

If you want to be a good trader and become successful from it you need to analyze about coin you want to trade and read the news about that coin and you can check in coinmarketcap.com to know it's statistics, You don't need to ask other people that you didn't know because you won't be sure if it's true you don't need to trsut other people because market is unpredictable no one can predict the exact price of altcoins or bitcoin in that day, Professional traders can only predict if the coin will get dump or pump in the next day or weeks.

I just invested in Factom because it's always a stable climber but currently at a low. I think with Eth and Sia you cant really go wrong also. But this is just my opinion, do the research.

There are many posts asking for good coin, you can look around for the answer.
But the good way is to spend your time for understanding the technology or application behind the coin before investment

Here is right place for your post. First of all you should rewiev the project and developers team of coins. Please don't buy coins with only offer of someone. You should rewiev by yourself.

For your first buying round, do not ask what you should buy. Ask yourself whether you want to invest the coin, and if yes, then just go buy it.

You can get in on coins that are not super new but have big updates coming around soon. Blocknet for example is still pretty cheap and they have a good fork coming soon. HUSH was like a random ZEC clone called Zdash but now has a new dev and rebrand and is actually doing things. It is not even on Bittrex yet. I already got a 4x profit here and am not selling yet, it has an eventual Bittrex add and some more updates before I would sell and depending on plans after the current ones are complete, I may hold it longer. Blocknet as well I may go long, decentralized exchanges are potentially a huge untapped market. One more major exchange tanking and falling off the grid is all we need. Both of these have good profit potential right now.

KMD, UBIQ, and XZC are all coins that imo should get added onto poloniex but poloniex makes no sense anymore now. These coins will go up although not in any burst like the above ones that are in more early stages.

Zencash is severely undervalued a the moment if you want to snatch up some coins that are selling way cheaper than they should be due to unfortunate events. It will have the most decentralized node system, and the only coin to have encrypted network. It has IOHK now working with the devs.

Disclaimer, I currently hold all of these except KMD and XZC at the moment.

Like anything in life look for bargains. In this sector that is not yet in the top 25 or even top 50 coins with excellent development history and a great but realistic road map.

Two of which for my liking (do your own research first)

bitbay
blocknet

The first is more of a proven dev team but the second also has a huge potential if they get a move on.

outside of top 100 still some great deals but more risk

I think the Komodo is a very good investment now. It has some very interesting features and big investors haven't noticed it yet so it's value is quite low compared to it's potential.

I would recommend to you to look out for on-going and upcoming ICOs at icobaazar.com, invest in upcoming coins since you will be getting more coins at a lower price, with discounts on top of that. Don't be afraid to take risks since there is risk involved in every investment. Risk that you taking now might be worth even more than you expected in a few years to come. You and I are almost in the same situation but I usually invest in ICOs, the ones that I am actually looking for now its Aeternity and DIMCOIN

Yes - it is surprising how many people don't look into a token properly before investing but then perhaps there are language barriers there since many tokens only have English language website.

I bought 100,000 SYS back in 2014 from the initial token sale - i still hate myself for not taking the private keys because shortly afterwards their distribution partner Moolah did a runner with the money and the guy who headed that up is now in jail - actually for rape not for Moolah - so it sucks - I wonder if there will be any legal action against him from the SYS community once he gets out...

I'll just chime in my 2 cents. The next big hit is going to be funfair, an amazing concept of decentralizing gambling using state channels to avoid the need for gas fees. Its currently only traded on etherdelta but coming to exchanges soon since they just had a round of early funding.

I agree with your opinion, I also loved and always support to buy bitcoin  ;) :)
but the ETH is also a good option after bitcoin because the price of value owned by the ETH is highly competitive with bitcoin.

I suggest you some altcoins that has great potential to increase in future:

Eth (Buy eth as soon as possible, you will thank me later)
Vsl (Good for trading)
Aeternity (not on exchange but great potential to reach highest price)
Icn (Price is high but good for short term investment)
Digibyte (Choose it for long term investment)

But do your own research as well that which coin is best for you according to your investment.

See their price action history, volume and news about all coins to find some best choice to buy. Practice with little money on real market to try your strategy and see what happen. Believe your self and fix your strategy with good calculation. Never trust your money to other people and good luck.

Look for the best projects which will have a true functional utility for the use of the tokens. The value of the cryptocurrency over time will be pegged to the correlation of the fixed supply and the supply and demand for the tokens within that specified market. Communities that form around technology projects are a good indication on how successful an ICO may be. Go through the forums, ask people about specific ICO.

And only then asking on the forum IMHO

More like silver to bitcoins gold. It doesn't really do a lot beyond faster confirmation times and that eventually won't be an issue with bitcoin anyway. I don't see it taking over markets from bitcoin which means it will always be second place.

Ark is a great coin with great returns and as I understand has some nice ways to address possible scaling issues that are present in bitcoin and ethereum and that the majority of altcoins would suffer if they became widespread.

I agree on the fact that itll always be silver compared to Bitcoins gold because BTC is so established in the market place already , but being silver compared to gold can still be valuable , at $40 value it has big potential to move up in pricing IMO where BTC is at $2545 per coin its more probable imo that LTC could double to $80 value per coin then bitcoin hitting $5k per coin in the foreseeable future.. or do you disagree?

A friend of mine bought when it went back at $240 and he got 2 by that time. And now the price is up by almost $50 and it gave him $100 in profit for just a few days. But I don't know if he's going to hold and sell. SIA is also a good coin when it looks low in mining, many are mining this coin using nicehash.
