Title: Is this PSU config 'Safe' for mining? Post by: distinct_user on July 01, 2017, 01:22:13 AM PSU: Antec HCP-1000W Platinum PSU.
Link to PSU info: http://store.antec.com/highcurrentpro/hcp-1000-platinum.html# http://imgur.com/vVBEqj3 - Motherboard: ASRock H81 PRO BTC R2.0 http://imgur.com/NAeIo4E I plan on using it with 6 x GTX 1060s with 6 x Powered PCI-E Risers and 1 x SSD. Yes it will be used for mining 24/7 (Probably Ethereum or Zcash.) My total TDP will be around 800W (or less). 1.) 24-Pin Motherboard > 20-Pin + 8-Pin PSU. http://imgur.com/G4LJUMa 2.) 8-Pin CPU > 8-Pin PSU. http://imgur.com/ixPoONj 3.) Molex Motherboard > 5-Pin PSU http://imgur.com/o4LSI3S Now, i know this may seem very confusing but i have tried to be as simple as i could. The reason for this is just to verify that no cable will be overloaded and the configuration is fine. I did plan to buy more separate cables so it would only be 1 cable per connection, but it seems that it is not possible to buy additional cables for this PSU and i have been told it is not safe to use other cables for a different PSU model, even if they might fit (Which would be rare anyway because Antec have a different cable format.) It would be a big help if someone could reassure me that this configuration is fine. Thanks! Title: Re: Is this PSU config 'Safe' for mining? Post by: iamnoobplzhelp on July 01, 2017, 02:15:48 AM I use a server power supply like this to power the cards and the risers for up to 8 cards.
http://www.parallelminer.com/product/hp-1200-watt-power-supply-kit-for-gpu-mining-platinum-94-zec-dash-eth/ Then I use a ~400w PSU for the motherboard and SSD. You also want to use PCIe 6 pin powered risers, like this: http://www.parallelminer.com/product/ithoo-usb3-0-pci-express-1x-to-16x-extender-riser-card-adapter-w-24-cable/ Then use a GPU power splitter like this to power both the card and the riser: http://www.parallelminer.com/product/18awg-pci-e-6pin-to-dual-8-pin-y-splitter-extension-cable-2x-62pin-cable-6in-each-side/ Title: Re: Is this PSU config 'Safe' for mining? So I would think you will have a lot of issues trying six cards. Title: Re: Is this PSU config 'Safe' for mining? Post by: distinct_user on July 01, 2017, 06:40:40 AM The PSU is 1000W.
-The rig will use 76W. -Each GPU is 120W @ max load. (But will probably be lowered to 100W for efficiency.) = 720W = 806W x 1.06 (to take into account wasted energy) = 857W PSU is 1000W. @ 857W, that's only about 86% of the PSU's load. Plus, that is assuming I will be using the GPUs @ 100% (120W) which I won't be. Title: Re: Is this PSU config 'Safe' for mining? Post by: gt_addict on July 01, 2017, 07:05:22 AM If gpu mining is anything like bitcoin mining then splitting the power supply of a card accross two different 12v rails is a no no.
Title: Re: Is this PSU config 'Safe' for mining? Post by: distinct_user on July 01, 2017, 07:30:44 AM It will be only one rail.
E.G. 2x GTX 1060s > 2x 6+2 Pin > 1x 8 Pin into the PSU. |
