Title: Medical Consultation - Completely decentralised
Post by: Ben-carson on July 01, 2017, 03:29:05 PM
Hey there,
Am Dr. Nasasira, a G.P in Uganda. I learnt about the blockchain 5 months back and i have been following closely.

Right now, i shall offer to be consulted about any medical / Surgical complaint here on bitcoin talk and via telegram - - Completely decentralized  ;D.

It may be that persistent genital rash, A general clarification requiring medical expertise, a Lab test that you need clarification on, Nutritional advice or medical counselling.

You or a colleague may be feeling unwell and wondering if to go visit the ER which can be hefty in terms of time, commitment, paper work, money - Many times completely unnecessary.

You PM me a medical question, I answer the question (Given my busy schedules as a doctor, i shall challenge myself to reply in 1- 6 hours). You shall send 0.05 BTC directly to me after you think i have helped to your satisfaction.

Half of all BTC (0.025) plus any amount sent above 0.05 BTC shall be used to help pay school fees to a selected number of Secondary school children in Uganda who are less privileged - in a spirit of charity - This i shall publish evidence to the contributors. Note that i have grown up underprivileged myself, my entire life.

Once you are helped, I shall add you to a Telegram group chat where we can learn more about topics selected by members - All completely simplified and totally decentralised. ;D

Tell me what you think.

....''The aim of medicine is to prevent disease and prolong life, the ideal of medicine is to prevent the need of a physician'' --- William James Mayo.

Do you have a limit for customer satisfactory? I mean, are you sure to be paid with 0.01 btc after the patient feel satisfied with your consultation service, instead of time based payment rate? I dont think a doctor will be that patient.

The value for money is different for different regions. Doctors in Europe and America charge hundreds of USD for consultation. Where i am, its something under an equivalent of $20 to consult a specialist. And don't be tempted to think, afterall these doctors are less knowledgable, or less smart.

The bigger picture, i guess, is 1 btc at the current rate can pay tuition fees of 5 children for one year -- In a reasonable school.

If you are the Dr. Nasasira, why does your account name makes reference to Dr. Ben Carson?  :D

Looks like a interesting service.
However if you want to have any kind of requests for your service, you need to offer a possibility for escrow as well as building trust so people know that the deal is worth paying for.

This is definitely a neat and unique service, however I can see some flaws that need to be addressed.

What happens in the case of a misdiagnosis? Not doubting your skills or anything, but over the internet not seeing a patient in person, confusion can happen.
Furthermore, there's no guarantee on the information being given, nor any proof of your qualification.

I'm sure that you're a talented doctor, however on the internet you need more than word of mouth. If there's any proof you can somehow provide that shows your skill and competence, that would help a lot. Good luck with your service!

So let's say, we have been satisfied enough with your service and paid you 0.01 (which you said 50% of that will be taken for charity), so you add us to your telegram group and discuss everything for free. In other word, we can get consultation with you for our lifetime with just 0.01? Or did I miss something? Please don't take it as a troll, I just really curious.

My Name is Nasasira Benson
I used to exceedingly excel in biology (dissecting guinea pigs in the biology lab) during my high school years (among others). My friend would later say i shall be the next BenCarson. Given my first name rhymes with that, i became popularly known as that, hence the user name. I shall try to change that if this attracts any negative suspicion.

Thank you for the kind comment.
I don't have an easy way of using escrow at the moment. Partly because am not very much tech savvy to integrate such escrow here on bitcoin talk. That's why for the start, one sends btc after the service, am on the less advantaged side but i highly believe in the service i have to offer.

Thanks again.

And am a young doctor by the way, the biggest satisfying moment in the practice of medicine is when the patient, days later texts you, " Am now fine, thank you doctor for saving my life" The equivalent here would be, Thank you for the service. So we put many things on the line not just for the money bit of it. If one would wish to make a donation in the due course, it would be welcome with both hands. The day you shall live in a less/non capitalized ecosystem for a while, you shall know how much more there is to money that you have been missing.

Thank you for this kind critique.

I wish i had a space to display my academic qualifications, transcripts, awards, licences. Since one is to send the fee after they are helped, i guess they have the advantage to prove the competence.

I probably did not have enough space to include a disclaimer. This service is best for information purposes. It does not intend to replace the hospital completely, and does not handle emergencies.

One more secret. 70 percent of the diagnosis is gotten from talking to the patient (History taking) , 15 percent from physical examination and 15 percent from laboratory investigation. This is not to say misdiagnosis is impossible, but to give confidence that diagnosis is more likely.

The biggest problem people face is not the lack of the right diagnosis, but the lack of that expert analysis and opinion about their health.

Needlesss to say, Tele-Medicine as a whole has its Pros and Cons. I exploit the pros in this service and accept the cons with humility.

This is very interesting. I asked in my national forum about the possible interest of people about aquiring medical services for BTC. The response was low, as is the overall interest in BTC.
The other issue i see here, and this comes as a question, is about the legal aspects of over-the-phone medicine, being over the thread medicine here. In som countries it is ilegal, but if someone gives "free advice" and then is tipped maybe the ilegal aspect is avoided.

Yeah, there are legal issues with TELE-MEDICINE as a whole. Majorly the effect it has on Patient-doctor relationship - Given the lack of physical contact between the two. Just as there are legal issues in all fields. What is illegal in most places is prescribing Over the phone, Legal in other regions. Needless to say this, in my own opinion is unstoppable.
