Title: Want your opinions on mining rigs
Post by: notaek on May 09, 2013, 01:20:18 AM
I was wondering if any of you who are either a) new to mining or b) hesitant to buy and build your own mining computer would be interested in purchasing a pre-assembling mining PC.

I don't have anything ready right to ship now, but I want to get a feel for the market.

I would be able to offer a computer that mines Litecoin (as it is more profitable than BTC) at a rate of 2500khps for $1500-$1600
A system such as this would consume somewhere in the ballpark of 1Kw of electricity.

If there is interest, I would start making things and start selling them.  Obviously nobody is going to buy one of these things today without pictures proof and everything.  I know that.  I just want to see how many of you would actually buy something at these prices (or even think this is a good idea) given that the aforementioned stats do turn out to be true.

Thanks

That seems to be a very reasonable price, almost borderline "too low" but I might be interested.  Maybe you get wholesale cost on some of the items or something, but that hash-rate seems very high for only $1500 or so.  Any additional information about your supplier, cost model and process would help ease my concern and probably others too :)

Thanks!

Yeah that's the reaction I was expecting.  If I stumbled across this thread then I would definitely think that it was "too good to be true".  For now, I would like to remain quiet about how this speed can be achieved.  I just want straight up opinions from people based on the given information.  If there is a lot of interest, and I actually go through with this, then I will share all of the information that you guys want about it.  If I am selling a product, I wouldn't want to keep anything hidden.

Honestly, I'd rather just buy the parts and build it myself than have someone else build it and then have to pay to ship it.  But I don't know, maybe someone less technically inclined would go for this.  I just think shipping is going to be the killer.

Urrm, don't mean to be a dick, but it wouldn't be that hard to achieve that speed for that price.. I mean, i'd tell someone where to buy, what to buy and how to put it together, would cost them less, but luckily for you i'm in the U.K :P

I am targeting people who wouldn't build a PC on their own for this.  Realistically, if you build your own you could probably get similar results as far as $/khps, but you have to do a lot to get maximum performance out of it.  Plus, building a PC can be time consuming.

As far as shipping goes, I should probably mention that if you wanted one of these you would have to live in the U.S.  There is no way that I would send a computer overseas.

Yeah.  I mean, say you have 4 7950's which could get 2400khs for $1200 and the computer itself for $400.  Next thing you know you are at $1600 and you still need to build the thing.  At that point, you might as well have me do it  ;D

Thanks for the response.  I am interested as my available time right now is limited.  I have built nearly all my own systems for the past years and would love to play around with building mining rigs.  The price you mentioned is pretty much right at retail for parts so the value to me is that I save time building plus I don't have to fiddle with all the settings/timings to get it just right.

Thanks

Hi Spetznazz

Any recommendations would be very appreciated.  Any way of getting computer parts at a trade price?  Surely someone must be doing just that!

Please tell me more about this setup. Can I pay in USD, or do I need to pay in coins?
