Title: can a shop keeper implement bitcoin payment and not know it!
Post by: Sniper44 on July 03, 2017, 02:27:48 PM
i have been reading this article https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/jul/01/bitcoins-underground-economy-proves-a-hard-sell
and it was a weird article to read to be honest. it keeps repeating the word "illegal" a lot and paints bitcoin as if it is only sold in dark places to be used by dark people!

then the funny part begins when he goes to a shop:
Quote
I ask if they take Bitcoin. “Nobody’s ever asked that before,” says a woman. “But it comes up on the screen, so I think we can.”

is it possible that a shop goes through all the trouble if implementing a bitcoin payment system and not even know it! but at the same time be familiar with bitcoin enough to advise the writer to not spend and HODL bitcoin because the value will go up :o

and also i find it ridiculous when he keeps saying i am trading at a loss when he only loses (allegedly) -0.93%
this is bitcoin!
and also checking GBP/USD today it has lost -0.69% you do the comparison.

Many people tied the bitcoin with silk road and they think that it is some kind of scam, ponzi scheme whcih is used for illegal things. But we all know that ain't true today. I hope that by being patient we will slowly begin to see that this will hopefully change for the better of bitcoin. This artical is really bad and painfull to read tbh  :-\ :-\!

It is still in early stages and thats why it is not stable, people want something quick and straight up or they don't want it to lose in value...

Sad that workers don't know what does their shop offer lol...

I saw the same article and it annoyed me too, I suppose a shop could start accepting bitcoin payments and might have given training or sent an email to their staff to let them know about it and the process and the staff members could have just not paid attention.

I am familiar with this franchise and they have bitcoin atms in their stores also, I would be surprised if they did not know that they accept bitcoin as a payment method.

People who write articles like this should at least spend a bit of time and look at the history of the topic they are writing about to get a full picture of then and now / before and after, bitcoin has come a long way, this article could easily have been written 3 or 4 years ago and would have made more sense.

i don't think the number  of people thinking this way is that high actually. it has been years since i have heard someone in real world (face to face) think bitcoin is for illegal activities.

that mentality is dead in my experience. maybe it is different in other countries!

I love the bit where the shopkeeper says not to spend Bitcoin, because it'll only go up in value.

I wonder how they think Bitcoin would go up in value if no one uses it and the supply increases...

Implementing accepting bitcoin in country where i am living its highly impossible and some one tried and failed also . People really want to pay bitcoin in shops may he is having huge bitcoin so afraid to convert its customer perspective. but for the shops there should be proper inventory which regularly checks bitcoin value and convert to local currency and should ask the reliable payment from the customer.

This situation makes me think of "Mary" .... Now this is a true, but sad story. When Mary was young, she slept with every second guy, who offered her

a drink. This went on for many years and Mary built up a reputation for herself and her nickname was "Easy"  She then changed her way and met

someone and got married and had some kids. When we had our last school reunion, everybody still referred to Mary as "Easy" even though she turned

her life around.  ::) Now this is the same for Bitcoin.... when it was young, some people took advantage of her and used her for bad things and now

she has a reputation that would be brought up.... again and again and again... for the rest of her life.  :(
