Title: What wallets are used for ICO?
Post by: moocash on July 04, 2017, 08:47:15 AM
Hi there, I'm new here so I hope this is the right place. Just wondering what kind of wallets are typically being used for ICO proceeds? There has been lots of ICOs lately that raised millions so wondering how they go about storing those.

I think the most typical used wallet in an ICOs is Ethereum wallet. I usually use MEW also known as MyEtherWallet (http://www.myetherwallet.com) because it carries variety of coins/token and you can even have yourself a privatekey.

Some ICOs also uses waves token so you can use waveswallet.io or download the software wallet.
There are Tokens on ICO which are not being supported by some ethereum or waveswallet so make sure to use the wallet that they suggest you to use. One is Myetherwallet because that mostly supports all eth tokens I think.

Base on my observation, every time I checked or opened the marketplace for altcoin mostly used was myetherwallet and
Waveswallet.io where they can reserve and put their token to this platform. But most of the time is MEW is being used in
the ico.

I used MEW for almost ICO. Never had any problems with MEW. It's simply secure, and verifiably secure.

As an investor you can store your ether tokens and use the myether wallet or parity or the Ethereum wallet to store the coins so long you have the token address and some ico provide a wallet for this.

There has been lots of ICOs lately that raised millions so wondering how they go about storing those.
These projects do not disclose which wallet was used to store the tokens so all we know is how much is raised and so forth

Correct, ICOs do have different token which do based on different platform which means some would depend mostly on ETH platform which you would need specific eth wallets in the market but there are coins which do decide to make their own and lately connected to other wallet in able to make transactions. Usually most ICO would announce which wallet would be used though.

Correct. One should check out the ANN threads of such ICOs to make sure which wallets to use to store the tokens. If it's not mentioned anywhere there in the ANN thread one should specifically ask the Devs about it.

It depends on the used ico platform but on average they suggest to use myetherwallet "MEW" , and I'm sure many members are using MEW for their ico results

For Ethereum contract, I recommend myetherwallet and for ICO that uses other platform, it's better to use web wallet for convinience. I don't prefer hardware wallet that needs to be downloaded since it can't be accessed through your mobile phones.

It depends on the project, most of them use ERC20 Token which mean you need to have Ethereum wallet that you have the private key in this case don't ever using Exchange Address but some project use Waves wallet to get your token but in waves it doesn't called token but asset, many asset you can find on Waves.

We are trade the coins to the exchanger receiving the coin like at bittrex, poloniex, cexcio, kraken, etc.
I don't know exactly what is the best site to trading, but i think the popular site to trading is Bittrex, Poloniex.  ;D

Yes, it is popular, but I am using a wallet called Imtoken since it is a app that can be installed on my phone, i think it is very easy to use. Also ,there are some hot ICO projects listed on this wallet.

As far as I can see, most of them are using mytherwallet. There are some who are still holding their ICO on exchange though

Myetherwallet is quite popular, before when I was a newbie on it just to have a wallet to register in an ico i just copy my address and forget to save my private key luckily I have JSON. As much as possible ,save your private key whenever you get your address in any walllet.

For icoes who follow the ERC20 token standard if better to use local wallet like MIST or ETHEREUMWALLET to have the possibility to access to all private Keys...
i don't wanto to risky my ICOEs tokens with bad managed exchange.

Most of tokens are ECR20 so they use ethereum address.
I suggest you to use myethereumwallet for storing them.
Just don't forget to add tokens in MEW when you receive them.

According to analysis most of them used myetherwallet as wallet, and waves wallet for secondary wallet

It depends on the ico.
They will be the one to choose what wallet should be use in bounty. You'll just have to download and install it. Just check it in the bounty thread or in the ann thread.

It depends on the ICO. If they are issuing the tokens on the Ethereum blockchain, you can use the add token feature in MyEtherWallet. Otherwise, the ICO will inform you priorly about a wallet service which can be used to store your tokens.

Probably from most existing ICO projects, they use the Eth addresses they use because they make tokens so have to use the wallet
https://www.myetherwallet.com/

A lot of the icos have different option to invest. Such as tezos open the bitcoin gateway and the bitcoin hodlers can inves their money in the tezos project. But the answer will depend on the spesification of the ico itself.
if the ico just opening the ethereum gateway to invest and just use my ether wallet.

yes indeed so, myetherwallet already highly popular can use receive payment for ICO and myetherwallet is wallet high security. Save the file Key Stone in a safe palace and use protection.

Depends on the ICO itself. If ICO using ETH smart contract, you should use Ether wallet like Myetherwallet which support ERC20 and make sure you can access the private key. While, if using their own platform you have to download wallet on certain project to obtain the address.

Indeed because most of the ico use eth as token for distributing in the bounty.
I'm using MEW for most of the ico that I'm joining because its private key is in your keeping. No third parties no hassle.

The wallet always used today is MEW (MYETHERWALET) or wavewallet.
And many also from some ico use the address of his own wallet we have to download his wallet

Myetherwallet for ETH, and some have their own bounty portals, i have seen also requiring waves or xem,but eth usually what ico mostly requires.we just need to make sure our private key, i didn't see ico's now requiring btc for bounty it is on altcoin always.

I think everyone here already knows about these things and most people will say the same thing here, so I will say the same thing as everyone says, maybe from so many ICO they will use their distribution using Myetherwallet wallet , Because there is nothing else they use to store their tokens.

With all ICOs i ve been a part of or monitored, they normally display or mention the wallet that the funding proceeds will be placed in. Most ICOs use Etherum wallet and Wave wallet i believe because of other functions it supports

I think MyEtherwallet is actually recommended in each ICO requiring ETH wallet, somehow I have been looking for a wallet can be used best wave ever since I saw some ICO are also looking for the address of the wave. This is just a better fit for me if the ICO gives gifts on their website rather than requiring addresses. because I think only MyEtherwallet which is safer to store the ethereum and other ;)
