Title: GTX 1060 work on really old PCI-E motherboard?
Post by: SuperDerpBro on July 04, 2017, 08:28:36 PM
I have ga-EP45-UD3R / CPU / RAM somewhere deep in storage and a few 1060s laying around. Figured i might try them for mining ETH. Before i go digging for the board..  would a 1060 even work on the old PCI-E slots?

Have some Asus Mn2pv-vm (Am2+) with Pci-e 1.0 and have recently used Rx-570 and Gtx 1070 with or without risers and no problem at all, same hash rate as Pci-e 3.0 mobo. Btw, not the best time to start mining.... Difficulty rising and price dropping! Good luck to all new miner!! History repeat itself...

Thanks. Time to stat diggin through boxes heh

I get about 22.5 Mh/s on my main PC (Single 1060).. figured i have 3 1060s just sitting here so why not mine for fun. Power is cheap and it's basically free hardware.

I've got at least one GTX 1070 (was a 1080 for a while) that is mining away on an old Socket 754 based Sempron system without issues - I'm not sure if that was even PCI-E 2.0 offhand, but for mining it's not a problem as mining isn't bandwidth-intensive.

I fired up a 10+ Y.O socket LGA775 mobo on the weekend. It has a core2duo E8200 in it - the same CPU that your board takes.

I've had a 1080ti + 1070 mining on this PC for almost a week and it's working fine. The 1070 is connected to a 1x through a riser.
Windows 10 is surprisingly fast on this old PC.

It is. I got it up and running with the old e8400 and it seem very usable for "normal" stuff heh. Now i remember why i loved this CPU back then. Running at 3.6 at 40C.. passive (120mm tower cooler with no fan).
