Title: closed mining case?
Post by: namjey on July 05, 2017, 03:09:52 PM
Hi all,

I am currently mining in a small room with 2 x gtx1080. They are both directly attached to a mobo and the whole setup is in open air. Gpus are running at 70~80 C.
My problem is that the room temperature is too high to sleep. Another problem is that since the setup is in open air, it gets dusty. Moreover, the setup is ugly, so it ruins my room appearance.  >:(

So, I would like to put the setup in a closed pc case. I tried to search for a big enough pc case to hold 2 huge 1080s (32 cm each), but couldn't find nice one.
Is there anybody running couple GPUs in a closed case? If so, what is your GPU temperature? Any suggestions with the case?

Thanks in advance!

Sure.

Toss it in a case but be sure to down your voltage and up your fans.

I run 2x 1080 TI + 1050 TI in-case. 1050 TI on a riser hung in the case.

Temps never get worrying. I would tell you numbers but i'd have to go look at it.  :P

I see! That is exactly what I wanted to do!
Could you possibly tell me what case are you using?

Just grab a full size tower with a lot of fans. It's going to run you about $100.

Be sure the distance between the onboard slots on your mobo is at least 2.5 lanes. Otherwise the cards will be to close and you will have one card 20c higher than the other.

I run a Fractal Design Define XL R2

It has room for 2 watercooled 1080s as well as a CPU water block radiator. It is also an insulated silent case.

I have just checked Fractal Design Define XL R2 and it looks amazing.

My one question is that my GPUs are 32cm long, so I don't think it's gonna fit in that case unless I can remove those 2 bottom(white) hdd cases completely. Are they removable?
Thanks!

the heat will have to go somewhere.

Even if your GPU's are watercooled , you will have still same problem i think , only your gpu's will run cooler

Of course PC case doesn't completely solve heat problem, but at least it solves my other problems.

Thermaltake V34 (or the V35 if you prefer top-mounted control panel) is my go-to case on the rare occasions I USE a case any more.

No case is going to solve your "room too hot" issue though, only getting airflow THROUGH the room will cure that (or put an A/C unit in the window of the room).

All of the HD trays are moveable, and you can fit a 38mm thick fan in the front WITHOUT modding the case if you move a HD tray for space.
